Ashes of Creation | Why Steven Sharif not having Game Dev Experience is a GOOD thing!
A quicker, to the point video on a criticism of Intrepid Studios I have often seen…that I disagree with. I think Steven not having game dev experience is a good thing. There are a ton of MMO dev studios that were led by experience game devs that did not do that well. And I forgot to include in the video..he has 160 team members and rising, and most have MMO experience. So all in all I think the man at the top not having game dev experience is a GOOD thing.

What impresses the hell out of me about Ashes of Creation is the ambitious vision combined with Intrepid's incredible focus and discipline. Not one iota of scope creep, along with the documentation to back up that claim.
I wish so much for them to succeed, even if the resulting game is not for me.
I think the biggest risk is that once it goes live, the node system and the economy not behave as intended, that the behavior that emerges will be…bad.
If Intrepid does succeed, it will be a lesson for all future MMOs.
Hell, it might even be a lesson for markets in general: that chasing maximized profits is self defeating, instead you can offer a clear vision and through discipline, deliver that vision.
Professional investors can turn a profit, but they will never deliver a game I want to play.
The reasons why MMOs turn into generic WoW clones have little to do with having MMO development experience and more about investors.
