This is the most important Dev Discussion to this date.
Eso had a terrible normal attack concept. It was ez to learn, ugly for the animations of the game, yet it became a barrier for the vast majority of ppl.
Tera Online is the mmo that has done normal attacks better than any.
The normal attacks there could not be weaved with skills.
The warrior for example would return mp on the 3rd consecutive normal attack. Also you could interrupt an enemies strong ability with normal attacks.
So there was function in them and a trade-off due to their weak dmg. You had to use them appropriately.
If you spammed normal attacks you could potentially get countered and placed in a stunned state. A lot of design went in them.
I encourage everyone to give feedback because this is the first time that I felt the Dev Discussion wasnt fluff.
I think you all are right. Normally when I work on things I will say it will take like a week or month to finish something, but really it is already done. I am just having others look over it and see if their is other things that I can do to spice it up.
I think that would be a good idea. Lets say the over chopping down of trees in the area and having a % chance of spawning a Treant, Or mining spawns a Earth Elemental.
Bards, I have said it once and will say it again the Bard in Forsaken World (FW) was one of the BEST done I have seen. D&D Bard started off as a mix of Thief, Fighter, Mage. Then it changed to where it is now at the point it is a jack of all trades but a master of none. It is more on getting information then anything. Information may not be the best thing in an MMO "unless" there are hidden quest. Now with Bards in FW you had trees you could spec into like Wind for Speed, Water for Damage, Light for Healing. And you had to play chords on your harps so that you could then create damage songs or buff songs. Example of buffs are increase damage by % of your attack power, increase Def. by % of your def. Movement buff to close the gap for your team vs theirs. AOE minor heal, minor Heal over time. Nothing world breaking but enough to make it so that it makes a difference in taking the bard vs not taking the bard.
As for changing the 2nd class, I think that you should have to level the 2nd class up and unlock the skills in it but then if you select a different 2nd class then you should have to do a quest to unlock it and level it up and get the skills but if you wish to switch then you should be allowed. Look at it this way, if you work on cars then go to working as a butcher, you dont just forget everything you have learned about with cars. I mean there are loads of people out there that hold down 2 or 3 jobs at once, they might not be as good as the person that does it full time but they are also not a n00b at it. So once you have the 2nd class open then switching should not be an issue, but you need to unlock all the skills if you want to use them for that build. OG Guild Wars had this the best.
I am sorry but what you said about the summoner if done is something that no person would then play. Summoning a dragon. OK. having it cost loads of Mana OK, having it do loads of damage OK, having it vanish it 5 sec. You have to be kidding me. That means till the skill cool down comes back around or your mana regens you are going to be running around taking damage and being useless. And if the dragon pops up for only 5 secs or even 10 secs. Everyone knows when they see it all they have to do it run around or better yet just kill the summoner now that they just spent all their mana. No one will play a summoner. The summons have to last a little longer then that I dont mind them losing health while summoned till they vanish but 5 secs and then there is a chance they might not hit anything. Useless class in my eyes.
I think I heard him say that there is not going to be something set up so that we can test how much damage we are doing, which I think is dumb as since the dawn of time there has been things even trees that you could show how much damage you could due, because of your strength, or the sharpness of your blade ect. But this is also a way of testing to make sure that the system is working right. Example how many times in New World did we find out that the % of heals or damage they said we where doing was off and not working. We need to make sure that a system is working and a way of testing it that does not require a person to have a masters degree in Math
Auto attack is like drive with automatic transmission, comfy and boring. Manual is more fun with sporty cars 🙂
