I think you might not know all the penalties going corrupt will bring to a player, if you do feel free to skip this. You will no longer be able to interact with vendors or npc's. Stat loss up to the point where you no longer do damage in pvp. There is a corruption score that will continue to go up the more you kill friendly players, the higher the score the longer your corruption lasts and the quicker you will go corrupt. Xp debt is increased x4 times, the loss of mats on death is x4, the log out timer becomes much longer, numbers haven't been given yet but I'm speculating at least 5 to 10 minutes. All bounty hunters will see the corrupt player on the map. Equipped gear loss, all players can kill the corrupt player without penalty and last but not least your reputation will matter in this game.
One example you would want to go corrupt is for things like, stopping a non flagged person part of a guild from scouting out your caravan route. The penalties have to be great because getting a caravan into town will be worth tons of money.
"What's going to stop them from killing you for your berry bush." I think that you will not be worth killing or worth the penalty that it creates to kill you for no reason. Killing your character for like next to nothing isn't worth getting stat penalties, loss of gear when I die or a long log out timer and not to mention the xp debt. If you go red it's not an if, you will end up dead it's got to be done only when it's for something that is worth it. That isnt to say it might not happen once, but it wont be the norm. Now if your a known troll you'll probably get ganked. Or if your on a caravan route you will see people coming to scare you off to protect their caravan, then yeah, expect to get got.
I think the strongest deterrent the game has is the fact that it's a population of 8k to 10k players. This is going to create a small community and over time trouble makers will find themselves policed by the community. The best gear in the game will be crafted. Imagine that you become a top crafter on the server. Would you sell your end game crafts to a known trouble maker, probably not. Guilds will not want to associate with jerks, some guilds might not care but I think a majority will be very picky about that kind of thing.
I doubt that people will be getting grieffed that often in this game, simply because the risks for bad behavior is fairly steep. Especially when the game will have bounty hunters that will see corrupt players on the map. But until we see the system in action, this is all speculation. I think we all share concerns about this system and what it will be like, even those of us that like pvp don't want to see the flaws lineage 2 had and it sounds like they are putting things in place to fight against that kind of behavior.
Also just one last thing, don't forget to take into account that you will have others looking to help. If your in a guild you will have like minded individuals to help. In a game like this don't underestimate that, most trolls or greiffers act alone and are cowards. Most gathers in a guild will be out there in the wild together trying to get the most bang for their buck by using a caravan to haul goods into town. Think i read that a player by himself will only be able to carry 1 percent of what a caravan can store. Safety in numbers and profit. Sorry for the long ramble.
True other games had a corruption system but it was meaningless. Ashes plans to bring back the pain for being a jerk.
I understand you do not really like PvP but keep in mind that "everyone" you meet is not going to you… pvp does not mean griefing. Griefing only occurs from repeated actions.
How can you delevel and reset a node without pvp? Or claim a castle for the guild without conflict? There are also religious conflict that is outside the corruption system. All of these are good for the game.
Ashes will be penalizing the griefers and those thst prey on younger players. True they can kill you for your flowers but why would they (inless it is an ultra rare spawn), it will not be worth the penality.
You do understand thst Ashes will have live GM's right? Not like wow.and.other games.where tickets are meaningless. Three verified incidences and your accout on all servers are wiped. You appear to think none of the systems will work based on your experiences in other games. PvP is bad, customer service won't do anything for players, why even have pvp when it doesn't work… nothing but negativity and defeatism. Let the game go through testing and launch then we will see if Ashes is a complete wadte of time and is destined to fail like your previous games, but you gotta hive them a chance to prove themselves.
