Lineage 2 did NOT have "Open World Dungeons", at least not exactly how we understand them in the west. It was more like an area (above or bellow ground), filled with sometimes elite monsters and simple raid bosses sprinkled around. The only reason you'd hunt in these areas would be for specific crafting materials or for leveling, and maybe a raid boss sometimes since they could drop good loot (and the number of people you needed depended on the power of the boss).
There was also a special kind of "dungeon", called Catacombs and Necropoli, which are a bit more complicated. They were part of a pseudo-faction war were groups pledging allegiance to either faction could go inside the dungeon and farm "seals" that they could turn in to contribute to the competition. I won't get into detail about how this system worked but the core concept that the monsters mainly dropped "a material you need" was the biggest reason you went there.
I believe Interpid is going down a similar design philosophy, where the open world dungeons will be hot spots for specific materials people need, that would aid a lot with that piece of content staying relevant throughout the game
Narc, whats your opinion on randomized Bossspawns in dungeons and raids?
idk about anyone else but i find your videos particularly soft compared to other media/youtube videos
Noice vid
This game is going to be an absolute bloodbath, amazing. 😁
In ESO open dungeons always sucked balls…
AMAZING GAME but i hate how weapons disapear out of combat or by casting , hurt my eyes! Hope characters will start walking on ground too, not sliding!
As a former Lineage II player I can confirm that players would farm dungeons for potatoes and carrotts. K plz pin comment now, thx bye.
You deserve way more subs. Your dedication to a game that’s no where near done is amazing and I thank you for your the content. I should ask if you know about your misspelled intro though. Is it on purpose?
I find it funny how you call instanced dungeons traditional since WoW was the first game to do instanced dungeons and all MMORPGS prior to WoW (and there were at least like 5 or 6) had dungeons that were non-instanced. Ultima Online especially had labyrinths filled with hordes of dangerous monsters that you could get swamped by and rooms of giant Demons underground where occasional PvP happened.
The problem with non-instanced dungeons was presented by EverQuest though. You end up having a small group of players monopolizing dungeons that are good XP or good loot and other players have to wait their turn. On a bad day, everything to do in the game could be camped and there could be nothing for you to do on that day.
Give me dungeons. All of them. I neeed them
Not Money, Adena 🙂
A world where everything occurrence is new and cannot be found by just checking on the net how to efficiently clear it"Brain Dead clearance" Nice I am up for it.
Adena.
Congrats on 7k subscribers! Been following you for awhile now and been awaiting the NDA lift so your channel could really start growing!
Good one DooD
So you could camp dungeon exits with your guild, tolling exiting groups?
SENPAI NOTICE ME – I would love to see mini quests in the dungeons, like escort quests or anything to make it less grindy. Maybe some hidden areas you unlock with a quest you got somewhere.
Since my childhood I've been hooked on gaming. Finally, last year I was able to say "I'm done with games, they all suck anyway" and THEN THIS FREAKING GAME SHOWS UP AND I'M SCARED 😀 because it looks so good. And I'm the super-cynical type of guy (notice the previous sentence), so I don't say these things very often. The last time I said a game look good must've been ages ago… Send help, guys 😀
Keep up the grind mate, your videos are great. If this game blows up, so will your channel. Discovered you through Asmon's reaction btw.
I 100% agree with “the best lore, is the lore that hasn’t been explained yet” sentiment
Congrats on 7k narc 😀
This video earned you and possibly everyone else that will read it and interested… A gaming history story :P. A maybe… most likely, long and messy … story of me in games back in the day:
Soo … First about gaming in my country as a whole… I come from a post Soviet 3rd world country where actuall early gaming was not even for the extravagantly for our country size and population ritch. Because… They did not know what computers… or Internet… are… So some of the ~"relevant" games appeared in their more ~"developed" for their time 2nd and 3rd … "forms"
Some of the earliest I have seen`s been of course Doom and it`s "mod" (or total rip off) Heretic (doom medival) but past it`s time and just as an example… DIablo I … (not played it personaly but seen seen actuall LAN multiplayer of the game) and Heroes of Might and Magic (my very first rpg like expirience even if turn based game… still quite RPG… items.. levels … etc.).
All of this was to make sence of my personal RPG route… Began in Diablo II … Really liked the game.. had batttle.net like all classes maining barb doing Mephistos and Cows and a friend, namate, that probaly also had an account of his own, 1 year younger who was into Trading (I wasn`t because I were always afraid I will be cheated with the prices or like "duped" items (dupliciated via cheat techniques that than dissapeare alegedly on maintainances) So Monarch by Monarch, Shako By Shako, Shaftstop by Shatfstop… Stones of Jordan were gained… made into Runes … and a very early on Breath of the Dieing in Etherial sword appeared (lowest possible roll… of course)… And that… Was my first online RPG gaming… (Also all of this was most likely enabled to an extend by the older ~kids … oh yeah I were very kid when all of this was happening, who were also Diablo II gamers in the club and offering… for free… because they can… boosting, leveling and equipment advices character specs … etc. and of course were good with pricing trading items)
Most of the gaming mentioned was happening due to lack of powerfull enough personal computers and/or battle.net able Diablo II clients and/or proper Internet connections for me and many others was happening from Gaming Clubs, or Internet Caffes if you wish (offering, browsing, gaming, media everything a PC could offer @ a time for like 1 euro an hour) .
It was around than that L2 private servers were starting to become a thing. @ that point outside of diablo II I have been playing of course… from what I remember Quake II, Star Craft, Command and Conquer, CS version like whatever it was, maybe Warcraft III and even Dota was becoming a thing somewhere around than or latter on. But there it was … my first Full 3D MMORPG avatar character creation was on my screen… Now I have mentioned the Diablo II and all the other games to testify as of to what degree for a guy my age back than I had an Idea of what I were doing on L2 Character Creation screen and onwards. Soo… First because I were lil`child I decided being male in game will be too much for me… so Female avatar… than… Nothing complicated because very new to the game… first expirience in it ever.. Something Sturdy… Class had Sword and Shield (seemed sturdy enough) oh yeah and heavy plate.. and Human because I were sure Racial Augments like Light Elfs, Dark Elfs, Orc complicate stuffs too much.
Being x7 Rates private server (not instant stuffs like x100+, not life long slow as retail (which be x1… and this is xEverything~ish in the game aquisition rates but mostly XP) But I did need the learning curve of what was going on so x7 was kind of perfect not retarded slow, not you need to actually know what you are doing fast. And it is how my Sword and Shield fam (not remember if the initial class was figher, warrior or tank) Became Dark Avenger. I were not happy with Diablo II Paladins (till latter on when I rolled one or few myself for enthertainment purpouses) so out of the 3 option available as spec for my Human Sword and SHield user… Dark Avenger, Paladin, Gladiator (Gladiator uses the shield for another 1 handed sword and I were still in my "if new don`t stray of the sturdy policy" convictions. As an added bonus I really wanted the Dark Avenger Black Panther summonable pet (even if it costed in game currency related item to summon every time).
And this… is where the relevant to this video part beggins (somewhat relevant) Now I absolutely am not sure about details of those ~many years ago, memories and/or there is overlap in between what I remember as my Dark Avenger gameplay and my latter on possibly more played on Treasure Hunter (That`d be the the Human Rogue spec in L2) but here`s what I want to say:
So there was ~of course~ this major hub town and by than for convinience (or that might have been latter on and what I am about to say was actually player to player interaciton thing) there were 2 artificially implemented on the private server NPCs (or 1) 1 being For silver Full Buffer (Buffs were of incredibly variety and worth in L2) and Location Teleporter (because actually l2 is open world game) and I were explained by everyone gaming around me… obviously… That @ the level and equip I were (cannot remember those with certainty) I should after fully Buffing Myself, port myself outside of this Open world Dungeon and hunt the mobs around there 1 by 1 or 2 @ a time if butchered pull for progress… level, resources etc. I think Enchant Scrolls were very viable thing. But once in a while… This magical thing happened… The party … Others of the players physicly around me in the small underground gaming club and possibly people they invited of their friendlists over the internet (now that I think bout it) were adding me to the party (Idk like 5 or 6 players) and we were going on a <<Adventure>> … Inside … the dungeon.
My best memories of that were of course on the Dark Avenger (I think on the TH I were mostly solo gameplay) I am sure everyone else were their appropriate for the task roles even thou I do not remember em… I only remember myself Tanking… NPC Camp, by NPC camp, Deeper … and Deeper… Up until when we reach where not many other players can reach us and the NPCs are juciest… and I were pulling camps of something called Putans (if I remember correctly) and we as the unit that the party was were killing em. If I have this as a memory up to this day after countless hours in many many online games it must have trully been once in a life time ~adventure (for a person the age I were back than).
Also just for fun I can also mention how once in a while when some of the other players in the club that had approriate class that can run Fast and Play Dead … and was not invited in the party (most likely) was performing something called *ape train 😛 So … You and the other guys are doing the pull and Kill, pull next and kill, previous respawn, repeat thing… and Suddenly over your monitor from a guy on a PC on the other side of the Club you hear "I am coming to wipe you guyyyys and saing Chooo, Choo (like a train) … Because.. in that L2 adoration entire dungeon worth of NPC camps were not losing agro.. So given player self boosted himself for speed with his class stuffs… Pulled the entire dungeon since the entrance in NPC train like line of mobs and lead em to where he knew we were farming … and once we were in Range of the "*ape Train" to take agro of the cleric heals being spammed on me being the tank and whoever else requers it… he`d use his "Play Dead" ability to lose his own agro and the entire Mob Cloud would agro the cleric and that would in like 4/5 cases lead to party wipe.. I also have some vague memories of possibly like 20~30 Players boss fight in that dungeon… but it was a rare ocasion for me to be on that boss).
All of that being said… Now that gaming is by far not as new as it was back than… (in western world and especially my country) … No matter how great of a game Ashes of Creation is intended to be and will be… not of that will be able to be "replicated" and/or expirienced by neither the actually new players (as I were back than) nor the players like me… Because reasons…
You may say "but why replicate what it were rather than just having <<new>> better expirience" … weellll … I regret to announce but the way I see it that is not possible because "new" in the full meaning of that word simplly cannot really happen in MMORPG with concept like this. I can mention a certain MMORPG that trully actually is the top of the line of it`s kind (because it do have some resembling predancestors, idk how to spell that and not care) and possibly of the entire MMORPG ladder as a whole… But I do not want to be blamed for missguiding commerce … I just want to underline >it is not FF14<. Also the point of the last really broken sentence was it`s so High Up there by all meaningfull measurable metrics that makes it One of a Kind and One of a Kind is also in it`s own right actually >new< so within there both new and old players can have >true< New Expirience (even if game now have decent amount of years beneath it`s belth)
Ashes of Creation >is not< one of a kind game… There is 0 Unique about it… There is certainly >better< than what it once were in one form or another but it`s still something that previously existed in mmorpgs as a thing and thus is also something everyone in some form or another is very saturated off… Weather by participating in it, or seing it/reading it in some sort of related media. Still will be an excelent game for everyone willing to pay for it montly thou… 100%.
I am a bit concerned how bosses will work because open world bosses are usually easy, how do raids work?
I totally agree…the Dungeons are looking amazing! im really ecxited how they will be in the actual Game.
Keep up the good work!
In L2 Chinese gold farmers controlled all the world bosses and dungeons and ruined the game.
The idea of open dungoens I feel is kind of a wrong direction. I hope they "limit" the # of people who can be in a dungoen at once. I can see it being really annoying on grinding xp, gear, or tradeskills.
on lineage 2, you get your party, chose a spot on a dungeon e stay there farming materials for the craft, gold, recipes that can drop, and even items.
But, dropping items on lineage 2 is rare, you generally drop materials and pieces of an item that if you get a certain amount of then and the materials you need, you can try crafting it with a chance of error (60% of success).
So, the pvp and pve content is the same, because you probably will need to fight other parties to get the best spot for farming, the spot that can give you more exp/h, or gold/h or that have a good chance of dropping rare materials.
it's common on lineage that you get your party to go farm exp or materials and have to continually fight other parties to maintain your spot. if you get wiped to another party, you just need to regroup and take back your spot, and thats how alliances and enemies are made on lineage 2.
if you search on youtube for "Toi fight CBP Team vs weeD" you can see a video of my party fighting in an open dungeon for a spot to farm and kill the boss.
Obs: we were one of the best lineage 2 parties in the entire world, we play with Steven on Lineage 2 official servers and AA, and we played on the biggest clans that the l2 community ever had!
