In this video I go through some of the server meshing that was shown on the Intrepid livestream, as well as the implications for retention and what it could mean for the space as a whole going forward if this tech works.

I also talk a little bit about the A2 key announcement as well as the Bard showcase later in july.

  1. Howdy. Been wandering YT, looking at the YT videos on it.
So many bad takes out there and lies being told, but that's ok, when the game comes out, they will either lie again and say they knew it was going to be a success or hang their head with a little shame. Likely the first. LOL
    Thanks for your thoughts.

  2. I know I'm likely to buy four A2 keys for people I know who would be decent at testing and interested.
I have at least a dozen people who will not test, so no key for them. LOL

  3. I could see a zoomed in camera making your local machine chug, considering you then have to render everything at a higher LOD, but servers shouldn't be affected by that. They typically don't render any visuals, they just process data (player positions, ability activations, etc.) – at least that's how I understand it.

I've always been under the impression that most MMOs allow you to zoom out to low orbit because their playerbase has gotten used to having superhuman situational awareness, and would throw a fit if it was ever changed. Either way, Ashes looks like they're taking the right approach.

  4. Keep up the videos! Good stuff! As I recall, NW had a huge problem with having multiple people on at the same time (wars) – performance was so bad. That and lower and lower population as the months passed. I had played at launch and got up to 60, but gave up with the lack of end game (running to chests to increase gear score…dumb) and wars were so so bad at least early on.
