  1. Once again, missed this Live.

I have never done PvP before, and before Ashes of Creation I had exactly no interest in it.

However, the design of Ashes impresses me so much that initially I just took PvP as the price of admission.

"You must be this tall to ride."

PvP is essential, even central to the design of Ashes. It provides a constant frisson of danger.

Without PvP, all the tension goes out of the game. The Player Economy would collapse like a shredded bouncy house, and the game would grind to a halt.

I think Intrepid has two major answers.

The first and most obvious is fine tuning the Corruption System, including maybe adding a little bit more "safety."

But I think their main answer is to have a broad spectrum of intense appeal. That is, offer so much great fun to so many different types of players, that enough players will pay the price of PvP to sustain AoC and thrive.

For example, consider Narc. At heart, Narc is a crafter. He wants a game where crafting, reputation, and system mastery really matter, and no one player can do everything. He's not what you'd really call a PvPer, but Ashes can only give him what he wants with if PvP supports Ashes.

For me, my mind was changed about Ashes PvP was the announcement of Open Sea PvP. I can embrace the Pirate's Life, and I feel like the Open Sea will act as a safety valve fir PvP. Anyone wasting their time ganking newbies and care bears is throwing away their share of sweet pirate booty!

I don't think a PvE server is even possible.

As for ArcheAge, I found it boring as hell.

I don't think Ashes of Creation will ever be boring.

    And remember: Autumn is coming.

  2. Enjoyed the video. Doubt the servers will ever shut down, unless Steven is unhappy with the game. Also, WoW had wimpy mobs compared to EQ. The world in EQ was the most dangerous, especially the dungeons.

  3. Bards in EQ could provide so many things: resistances, melee/ranged haste, mana regen, hp regen, charm mob, increased run speed, mana drain, direct damage, invis, see invis, track, etc. They were great kiters as well and could wear plate.

  4. In regard to corruption gain; I think if they scale it properly to things like average player level or gearscore; have zones that are perma pvp could work.

Me personally, I only played maybe 50 pvp matches in wow, tons of early gw2 pvp but Ive played enough games where I’ve been one shot from someone with whack gear and it’s alarming.

Y’all made some really good points about the GMs though and I sincerely hope they get well enough staffed to really help the community if griefing is/becomes a problem.

Best ep I’ve listened to so far! Thanks for the level headed discussions

  5. I dont have all day but i wil summarize, i just really think Vlhadus is way off on many things here. Mayb hes being contrarian but i actually think with how harsh the penalties to corruption are and remember there is a bounty system, one server, reputation and the potential to lose your gear with no fast travel to escape. If anything doing random pvp is going to be so disinsentivised that i worry most wont even partake in a light hearted fight over resources. People forget but this is a god damned game and people are so sensitive these days its pathetic.
PS. Vlhadus says hes all for pvp only servers but every take he had here said otherwise, and i think its clear what he really wants because all his worries are already adressed and his bias was seeping thru in his lines of questioning clouding his judgement imo.
