Star Citizen might never release but the tech they develop for years and openly talked about is taking roots in ither games. Good!
A couple of years this was called impossible untill someone started developing this.
it was priced high, to keep the trolls out. only those serious would buy. geniusl
ESO had this for nearly a decade.
Anime correlation is right on the money.
ESO already has mega servers
The game is coming out soon. Ofc they are hyping it up. But who knows what reality is.
"A brand new concept known as microservices" made me laugh my aess off. As a software engineer, this is the bogeyman of complexity and projects that move slow as hell, but have the capacity to scale extremely well. They better have world-class engineers on this project.
If this works, inteprid will go down as innovators
New World limited the pvp thats what killed it. Only a select group of people could pvp and you had to be in good standing with wahtever guild controlled the land.
See EverQuest 2 did this in beta, they had one server and just clone the zones and you just had to pick what number zone you wanted to go into to meet your friends. Then they launched with 400 servers for some bizarre reason and the game died a week later when WoW came out.
Ah yes, Intrepid invented a new tech called Microservices.
I think gw2 had a good solution as well. If you were on an empty layer, you got the prompt to change layers and got awarded exp boost
Even tho this game looks like it's not for me, I really do hope it's good enough to get an audience and scores a decent win.
We didn't get any decent MMO in quite some time and it would be a shame if the genre stagnated.
Oh yeah, it'll be where they need it until Asmon logs in with tens of thousands of players and it all crashes to shit. lol
That's the worst case.
EVE Online does one realm.
Albion Online was doing a one server for all for years. They eventually split into East, West and EU servers cause of ping as playing from Asia, players had 250+ ping while EU had 120-160 depending on location. Still, the game has 3 Wolds now (3 servers) and is still going strong. Years later they are now telling me that a new MMO is introducing this revolutionary idea of having a single server. I mean, they should at least do their research before claiming that they are coming up with new concepts 🙂 I actually see quite a number of Albion mechanics being promoted as something fresh cause some people don't even realise it's all been done for years now.
Albion Online already did this years ago
They'll only need one server after the first week anyways so…
So they use k8s
Cant be a scam. The company has grown to HUNDREDS of devs over the years.
I follow this development since the START of the first news.
10-12 years by now.
No scam. Never. Too long for scam. Too big now.
Sounds more like mass load balanced instancing, you'll probably find areas have instances, grouping players by friends, groups and level or something.
Remember walking into iron forge on guild raid days, on the family PC during with integrated graphics and 1gb of ram 😂😂😂😂 beep bob beep bop… I've fallen in the lava🔥
Just think millions of players all trying to kill the same world boss… it has to have instances otherwise areas will be overloaded with players
It's funny how they reinvent something that was done over a decade ago and sell it as new, same with Starcitizen.
Yeah seems someone needs to break down what's it actually about to asmon because he & audience didn't understood shit and completely misunderstood the "all on the same server" thingy
I really hope this game turns out great. Looking for a new home after New World let down what was left of us still playing it.
"NEW TECHNOLOGY… MICROSERVICES" thats not new 😀
Wow could have been made with a 1 realm strategy, with the Big Blue system, but the shards are much easier to push out when needed.
From the comments i should not even watch this video… I always like to watch asmons videos because he has lot of good takes… but from the comments i did good if i just watched the original xd
This mmo will die a quick death.
the new dungeon mechanisms is why Asmongold should be interested, open-world dungeons, gate kept by skill check bosses, with dungeon meshing, and scalability that prevents zerging
I don't like forced pvp so I won't be playing the game, cool system though
Isn't this just Guild Wars 2's system?
dynamic griding was my first thought for star citizen as a solution
Only the final prpduct will tell us if this game is actually worth of our time.
I haven't watched Ashes presentation of it, but Narc has no idea what he's talking about, and you should not take this video as an explanation for their Server networking. He lost me as soon as he stated, verbatim, "…Intrepid has created a brand new concept known as Microservices".
This is not true. Microservices have existed for more than a decade. Everything leading up to that was wrong, and most of what I've heard him explain was just flat out wrong or misunderstood.

welcome to Youtube where instead of watching a video you watch a guy talking about a video where a guy talks about a video about guys talking
That's exactly what Dual Universe did years ago.
I wouldn't say this is a bigger version than star citizens, scale wise star citizens system has to work on a solar system scale.
Wait, isn't server meshing just what ESO already does? Or did I miss something?
No way that will be one realm… millions players cant fit in the world of Verra. It would be like ant colonies. Unimaginable.
there will never be a Riot MMO
