Ashes of Creation is an MMO being built with one giant flaw that will absolutely hold the MMO back, if not downright ruin it. World of Warcraft Players, ESO Players, Guild Wars 2 Players, Final Fantasy 14 players. they wont like this game the way its being made, but it is possible to fix. Whether it should or shouldnt have always on pvp is a matter of opinion, but screw Raid Shadow Legends regardless.
That is by far the worse Pvp system I have ever heard of, and any game that has a system like that will never make it very far.
I am actually one of these plebs that enjoy these kind of pvp systems a lot. But i have to say, i totally see why most people hate the shit out of it and my main mmo is GW2, that is faaaar away from a system like that. And since i am not really looking for a new mmo for me, i really hope they will change the system, cause i will gladly see it have a more casual system for the sake of a proper playerbase.
I can smell the sweat coming into the comment section demanding PvE enjoyers to "man up and git gud" because I can already see some low (but enough) leveled alts ganging up to grief people everywhere everytime.
Some very good points sir! As a casual MMO gamer myself, I'm also worried about how much content is locked behind the activity of other guilds. I also have a tough schedule and lots of commitments. Sometimes, only 1-2 hours an evening. It would really suck if I can't play because of other players 🙁 Even though I personally LOVE pvp (especially spontaneous world-pvp), I worry about that the pendulum might swing a bit too far to one side. A healthy mix of instanced dungeons/raids and open-ended dungeons/raids sounds like a good start to me.
I want a MMORPG with NO PvP. I have flashbacks from other pvp mmorpgs getting killed by players over and over again because veteran players would farm new players in starter zones.
The problem is the people that like the PVP system tend to be very vocal and give you that well if you don't like it leave attitude… Its the reason why so many games with this PVP model fail as a small minority of players cannot finically sustain the game and it becomes harder and harder to get people to try the game as its reputation for being a toxic pvp mess grows.

AoC is dead on arival with this pvp system in 2022 unless bis gear rains from the sky anyone that loses a peice they grinded 30 hours for to a grefing pvp player is rage quiting

As a PvP degenerate I agree 100% with you.
For example I even loved Crowfall, the only issue was that it had really little solo content. A solution for a degen player like me would be to make solo content much more appealing so that you can have lots of smaller fights and not just big group zerg fests, but that absolutely doesn't solve it for most players, and I'd like to see what they do as a solution.
I won't be playing AoC for 2 reasons. First is their current and planned monetization. Second is the pvp.

Would it be possible for the player to toggle a setting that would enable them to engage in PvP like an “accept PvP” setting? Then if the other person tries to attack them it will not cause any damage? The Division 2 has the dark zone for PvP and that seems to do OK so maybe a PvP node would work best like you said?
Okay idk if anyone remembers Tera, they had Always PVP on servers and non PVP servers, and the day they got rid of open world pvp the game died, literally I remember guild after guild quitting in droves, I’d at least like 1 or 2 always on pvp games
