Ashes of Creation – Enable Default Skins vs Hide Cosmetics

On the official Ashes of Creation forums people post really good ideas every day. Now, some of them are really good ideas for AN MMORPG, but not for THIS MMORPG. Some people post really good ideas for Ashes that I think the team needs to look at. Sadly, a lot of those threads get derailed by people who think they know what they are talking about, but they really don’t. They think a person is talking about a yellow banana and the person is really talking about a red apple. The thread gets so convoluted that in the end the good idea is lost.

Threather posted an amazing idea about being able to enable a default skin for the races instead of just a Default Player Experience: https://forums.ashesofcreation.com/discussion/51427/enable-default-skins-settings-concept-not-hide-cosmetics-concept/p1

I think this is an amazing middle ground between there being a single default player experience of 4 models (reds vs blues with 1 male and 1 female skin) and the thousands of models people are going to have to load when there are 500+ people in an area. This idea will help extend the range of hardware that can be used to play Ashes of Creation

  1. Lowering your graphics can help but it can just go so far, besides lowing the resolution will put more stress on your CPU and considering this is an MMO, it's probably not a good idea.
the best way to do it is probably to make it so it automatically uses this when your performance drops below a certain point so people won't be able to complain about this feature (of course if you have it enabled).
Let's just hope Intrepid reads this threads and isn't always following what the loud ones say or what the majority says instead of what is right for the game.

  2. I personally think adding this feature and possibly do 3 different default skins per archetype, per race to have some varriation.
Having this to help preformance would be amazing and have this automaticly trigger if a city or hotspot to crouded if "auto" option is on.

  3. I have a little problem with this, despite the fact I value gameplay more than cosmetics. It is easier to spot someone in shiny armor among a group of people, so if you have personal beef with him or you know he is the one giving callouts you can find him easier and focus him down in large scale battles.

  4. As long as it doesn't turn into a "must have on" option due to performance and rendering stuff (as it happens in CSGO or OW albeit different type of games) I think is a great idea.
And George Black's take is the dumbest shit ever. I've never ever spent time and credits in swtor trying to look the exact way I wanted for other people. It was for me lmfao. I bet George has Supreme clothing and shiny cars to show off to other people but buys 5 dollar flip flops to go around the house. (nothing wrong with either, I love flip flops. The problem is the contrast and hipocrisy).

And funnily enough, I was typing something similar to Atama, but Tether's idea is great because of 2 things:
1- You don't have to make your game look like blurry crap at lower res to run smoother
2- Showcased by IS themselves in one of the livestreams, they were improving the coding so the rendering of similar or equal textures and such was much smoother. So based on that, Tether's idea is literally an addition to IS idea of rendering things.

All in all great idea, my only fear is that it will become a must have on option considering the game is thought to be heavy PvP and open world. At that point you can't really go out looking pretty. Like with the examples I give, although completely different games, is that CSGO's rendering benefits for having insane amounts of FPS (also lowering graphics makes it easier to see enemies in certain areas or lighting conditions). And OW had skins disabled (or defaults painted over as teams) in tournaments because skins changed hitboxes which was a massive issue. I assume AoC is "mmoish" meaning running it at smooth 60 and smooth 240fps will be the same, but who knows. Maybe it isn't and then at that point people rendering less things will have an advantage.
