ASHES OF CREATION – Does the Scope Creep Threaten the Game's Launch?

In this video, we’ll be discussing the potential scope creep associated with the development of Ashes of Creation.

Ashes of Creation is a ambitious game that has the potential to be something special. However, with the development of the game comes the risk of it becoming too big, too ambitious, and too costly. We’ll discuss this risk and how Intrepid can protect themselves from it.

One of my viewers redeemed a 50,000 viewer point reward on my Twitch so that I’d do a video on the idea of Ashes of Creation and Scope Creep. I sat down with the idea and I thought through all the different parts of Ashes of Creation and truthfully I don’t see much scope creep. I see a lot of people calling out scope creep, but honestly I don’t see scope creep. I just see a lot of undefined deliverables that mostly line up with what you’d think of as well rounded systems. Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe there is a lot of scope creep for Ashes of Creation and someone can point some out to me. If you do, I’ll do my best to address it, and if you are right you are right.

I answer questions Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays over on Twitch if anyone has any questions.

  2. It sounds like there has been a bunch of scope shift and scope clarification. imo the map editing tool they created might be considered scope creep but at the same time it is saving a ton of development time so……

  3. The switch to UE5 will probably cut down on some of their development time due to all the quality of life improvements. My only worry isn't scope creep but feature creep. There's time to add that stuff after the release and I think trying to add too many things at the beginning will take more time and effort that will just prolong the development or leave things not as fun as what they could have been because of time management being spread thin.

  4. Scope creep threatens every project, it's up to the PMs (or Steven) to make sure that if the scope grows, they talk to the customers. In Ashes case, if the scope grows, they should move some things to after release so that the game doesn't take even longer to launch.

  5. Yeah, no scope that I can see. Just good ole development time. I'm guessing you didn't see the ghost face or whatever his name is ashes vid Yesterday???? It was….entertaining to say the least….
On another side note, did you read in depth the cosmetic pack descriptions we got this month? If youhaven't,, give it a read. This is the first time I've heard mention about demons amd devils, other than the others, coming through the veil…I wonder if we are going to get to go to the void in the future?!?

  6. hold up… you go from being a NORMAL dude with a gaming channel to this rediculous top hate / glasses combo for views? lame af. unauthentic. seriously, the gimmicky schtick should have never been considered…after 2 years on YT, the truth is your content sucks because your gameplay sucks. Youre not asmongold, cant just make opinion vids like XQC until AFTER youve topped charts. Annoying seeing all these casuals try.

  7. I think there is a lot of people that mistakens scope creep with a very big scope as Ashes have. I don't think they have scope creep but on the other hand even a minimal introduction on something on the TODO's will likely have a big impact on the development because of how all the systems are interconnected, that is my only concern regarding the scope creep.

  8. I don't believe there is any scope creep, I believe is as you said it's changes in the scope, but overall the same scope. Even the changes to the map to me don't feel like scope creep. Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't the map change only really increase on the ocean side of things, the land itself still was kept at the same size.I feel like increasing the size of the oceans is significantly easier than increase the land masses.

IMO, the only thing that could qualify as scope creep is the new addition of ruins to the nodes after their destruction, this feels like it was tacked on recently, as oppose to being in the original design scope. Idk, if somewhere it was mentioned this was planned, but I was following the game since the kickstarter and I didn't hear about this feature once until the stream it was mentioned in. I think this feature is something that could be implemented after launch, while I do think it's awesome, it feels like it's just another system that is simply going to increase development time.
