Ashes of Creation does Quest Markers Differently

My first time in a long time doing a completely unscripted video. I chose an easy topic to start out, one that I can’t easily get sidetracked on. Ashes does not have the traditional “!” above quest givers, and mark all over you map and minimap that show where the quest is located. In A1 it would show a dot if you click on the quest with the map open. But it wasn’t an exact location always.

I personally like this change, but I also think it might make the game more reliant on guides and guide makers that the games that make quest interfaces that completely hold players hands.

NOTE: I forgot to mention that in Alpha 1 the map would show the location of the quest you had selected, but it did not clutter the map with every quest marker. You had to select each quest individually to see the marker for each quest. Even then, the marker would not show an “exact” location always. There was still some searching once you go there.

We don’t know yet if this is the exact design choice for A2 and launch. TBD.

This is one of the reasons I do scripted more often is because I forget to mention certain things.

  2. I have a very terrible sense of direction. I find markers helpful. However…. in alpha 1 (even though the quests were in the most basic form) – I had so much fun. I had to actually read quests and work out what the heck to do. It felt sooo rewarding when I completed a quest. If I was stuck I had to ask for assistance from other players. Even though it took longer for me to complete a quest compared to auto/following guides etc – I definitely had a whole bunch of fun ^^
    I'm looking forward to doing more quests and that's coming from a player who usually hates quests xD

  3. I like finding stuff own your own…some hints or landmarks are fine…no handholding for me. I want to earn it, that's part of it, the accomplishment you get by finding it and doing it yourself or with a group.

  4. People would go to guides, read a lot, to not read few lines of quest…
    But I prefer not too many indications for quests, it is more natural, and people maybe hare it (but this game is not for everybody) but not reading quests, you ignoring world. And next people are saying that game don't have story. When they spam R (or any continue key is use)…
