Combat Is the most important aspect of any MMO. Ashes Of Creation is an ambitious upcoming MMORPG I’m very excited for. In todays video we discuss what we know about every aspect of combat. We will discuss core mechanics, logics, and systems that are confirmed and hypothesize on some as well. This video took approximately 2 weeks of hard work and I truly hope it helps as I will be updating it again when enough information is released to justify so. Please see pinned comment for any corrections post publishing. I rewatched a lot of streams in full to ensure fair research and further back any hypothesis as well as cross referencing with the AOC WIKI. Please comment any thoughts or information you feel will be helpful.
Please subscribe to the official AOC YouTube and be sure to watch the melee weapon showcase as I think this best shows the combat best along with the ranged weapon showcase: @AshesofCreation

Updates & Corrections:
I wouldn't mind If they literally copy/pasted GW2 combat.
That being said, I would love to see what will they do with active blocking.I agree, you should block only in certain direction and stamina bar should be a thing. It should also be drained if you hold block and you should take a chunk of stamina if you successfully block an attack.
Sprinting being tied to stamina would give classes that rely on it advantage when traversing the land, so to combat this I would give other classes some utility spells. Give, for example, mage class Feather Fall (like in WoW or DnD) where you can jump of a mountain with no fall damage, or Waterwalking like shaman has in Wow, maybe even Stride (ditched WoW passive) ability for rangers.
I think skill shots should be a thing. It doesn't have to be every ability, but I don't wanna see a load of homing fireball missiles.
As for moving while casting-I agree. You should be able to cast spells while moving, but depending on spell you should have reduced speed. It would be cool if you had one ability that is so powerful you have to stand still. Like Pyroblast from WOW. That spell had like 6-7 sec casting time, but it was sooooooo powerful. Pair that with ability that reduce 1 spells casting time to 0 and you have this amazing gameplay.
I firmly believe gameplay should be a symphony with ups and down, slow and fast parts with a perfect finish.
Don't go full tab targeting. You never go full tab targeting in 2023.
when does it come out?
LETS GO
Great breakdown on all the details of the combat!
I really like the idea of RvPvS in AoC pvp.
Cause as soon as a meta forms there is a hard counter to it.
Great content. I was thinking about your question about tanking and shield use. What about timed blocking being most effective. Block button being held down longer the a sec limits movement. There are some great combat mods for Skyrim. I like action combat myself but I have enjoyed both types. Ff12 with it’s Boolean logic combat was surprisingly fun. Some crpgs do the same thing.
i really like action combat over tab targetting
