Ashes Of Creation is, as of making this video just a few months away from releasing in its Alpha 2 state, in fact this may be the final progress update video I release before we’re able to play the game.

This means that by playing or watching content about Alpha 2 you should have a pretty decent idea of if Ashes of Creation is an MMO for you or not.

With that said in this video I’m here to do the usual livestream recap summarizing the past 3 months of Livestreams to keep the casual follows of the game up to date with the latest developments.

What do you think of the latest Ashes Of Creation development livestream showing off their server meshing tech? are you excited to play Alpha 2 in 2024? let me know in the comments below!

–Ashes Of Creation MMO Description–

Ashes Of Creation is a colossal MMORPG attempting to provide fans of PVP, PVE and Roleplay an everchanging world and the ultimate MMO experience, the game will have the following:

9 different playable races both with male and female options.
1200 square kilometer world size at launch, 85 Nodes in the world, EVERY Resource you see is gatherable just like in New World.
Fully open world game where you can go from one size of the map to the other no loading screens.
Dungeons, Raids, World Bosses, Open World PVP with a criminal system, Caravan PVP, castle sieges, node sieges, arenas, duels, guild wars, crafting and artisan system, monster coin events, political system, citizenship, player run shops, taverns with parlor games, top tier character customization, transmog cosmetic collection, 64 different class combinations, 3 different forms of player housing both open world and instanced, achievements, leaderboards, gathering, questing, hybrid combat system, player driven economy with localized storage, pets, massive guild system with guild halls, both land and water mounts and 18 different biomes in the world.

Ashes started development back in 2016 in Unreal Engine 4 however at the end of 2021 upgraded its engine to Unreal 5 to make use of the latest advancements in gaming tech such as nanite, lumen and a more efficient development pipeline, In terms of funding the game was successfully kickstarted in 2017 however the vast majority of the games funding comes from creative director Steven Sharif, a successful entrepreneur who like most of us has been a lifelong MMO fan that was unhappy with the current state of the MMORPG genre, Ashes Of Creation is fully funded to completion and despite offering paid access to Alpha and Beta tests is not reliant on these funds to finish development.

This game will have zero pay to win, a cosmetic only cash shop with no convenience items and a $15 per month subscription fee business model with no box cost.

A sand park MMO is basically a hybrid of theme park and sandbox, there’s a lot of player driven content however there’s also developer curated scripted encounters such as raids and dungeons…This is the category of MMO that Ashes Of Creation falls into and personally It’s my favorite type of MMORPG.

  1. I doubt this game will have any success. It's too focused on PvP and the mechanics and gameplay can lead to dramas. Yes it will be hyped and it will be played at the start by hundred of thousands of players (maybe even millions), but once the honeymoon period is over, i feel the game will end like Lost Ark: in 6 months after launch it will loose 90% of playerbase.
The MMORPG PvP playerbase is niche because not many MMO players like PvP. And the reward system and grading (mayor, king, queen, etc) favours only the most "fanatic" (hardcore) of players while the majority (the peasants, aka the casuals) will help them obtain everything in game and get almost nothing in return. The flying mounts topic is also a big issue that can lead to drama because only high ranking players can obtain them, while the casual has no chance (unless they put flying mounts in the cash shop) + other rewards. Players will not play a game where they will be constantly on the loosing side. Groups, guilds and teams will be formed by the most hardcore players, while casuals will be just fillers and meat to be killed.
If they (devs) don't diversify the gameplay and include more PvE content (like dungeons and raids), the game has no chance. New World tried this "PvP focused MMORPG style" and failed and i doubt this game will be different.

  2. perma open world pvp… yeah, no thanks. not for ppl with rl. early on hoped itll be like gw2, drop in drop out game, seems more like hardcore nolife game :/

  3. Ok but how are they going to keep the game from turning into a political zerg fest in large scale pvp? And how are they going to balance the motivation for caravans when the attackers of a caravan risk nothing at all? If the devs' answer is just 'deal with it', then I won't deal with it. I'll play pve only, and if the game's good content/good stuff is locked behind pvp, then no thanks.

  4. I really hope they don't go to shit when they start seeing all the money the game is making, or involve some scummy publisher. Because this game WILL MAKE MONEY when/if they launch it.

  5. On paper Ashes of creation sounds fantastic!

But here is why I will never ever play this game.

    Modern day gaming.

Modern day gaming entails people being socially challenged.
Setting high standards for relatively simplistic content.

Great examples would be World of Waracraft demanding a gear score above the gear score drops in the raid you're trying to apply to.
People not seeing you as a fellow player for a fun adventurous social experience. No, people see you as a tool and the means for them to get their own personal character progression.
Which is further emphasized by example 1. Toxicity, point 1 and 2 are clears signs of pure toxicity, severe anti social behavior driven by the egotistical pursuit by personal gain.

The modern day gaming attitude has killed MMO gaming for years.
The issue has never been disappointing games or lack of content, it's the socially distant behavior amongst player.
Great examples would be World of warcraft classic, everyone had a great time on launch for a few weeks, eventually people had mains started raiding and the GDKP, Boosting drama started.
Any player joining classic at a later point, was forced to either swipe their credit cards for gold or solo play all the way because the social experience went from: "looking for a group to clear Scarlet Monastary". To: " WTB BOOST SM ARMS!, WTS BOOST 1/4 LEFT 3 MIN 50G PER RUN" and naturally I will also refer back to point 1: LFM tier 1 farm, will inspect at bank, must have fully enchanted BiS T3. ( naturally the T3 is a exaggeration, but not far off from the truth).

So yeah, if I want to play a RPG I'll just stick to single player RPG's the social experience is higher listening to Oblivion NPC's than dealing with all the issues above.

Sure some of you will argue but just get a guild! I have a fun guild!

A guild is only fun if you're part of its core members, joining a random guild these days isn't fun.
You're just another statistic to the core group like an ad interim DPS or healer while the guild uses DKP.
Getting ignored by the core members despite them advertising themselves as a friendly and social guild.

So in short, guilds only work if you have a group of "friends" that you have known for years and are willing to play the game as well.
Otherwise, they won't add anything of value to you.

In fact, I feel like the node based system is going to be another incentive for the modern day gaming culture to get even more socially distant regarding guilds.
You will probably have to reach certain targets for said that guild on a weekly basis or be removed.

  6. seeing the development gives me hope and make me really apreciate the work they are doing. maybe other companies try this hard too but we dont notice. anyway, that said, what they are doing is impressive and i will surely would like to be there when the game finally gets out and i hope hope it becomes what we are all expecting it to be. the greatest mmorpg of the new era.

  7. Just a heads up, Ashes of Creation will not be feature complete by the launch of Alpha 2. It will be feature complete towards the mid-end of it due to the alpha 2 running parallel with beta 1 and 2 that will come closer to release.

Just wanted to put this out there so people don't expect the game to be feature complete the moment the alpha launches and then ends up being disappointed.

  8. Thing is, the game seems very PvP focused. I don't know any PvP focused MMOs that survived the test of time. PvP is itself a toxic thing, it breeds toxicity. Which unfortunately PROBABLY means this game is going to have a very negative, toxic community. That's just, the natural way of things when PvP is the focus of your game. And nobody wants to deal with that as their day to day escapism. Mind you it's not just PvP that creates that sort of community, it's anything that is competitive. The reason WoW is so toxic is because it's extremely competitive. It's all about raiding, and beating the raids before others do. If people mess up, they're 'holding you back'. FFXIV on the other hand, PvP is barely alive, and the only 'competitive' thing about it is absolute top end raiding, which surprise, is in fact extremely toxic.

My other issue is that honestly, it doesn't seem to be doing anything actually unique. It's just, 'another MMO'. Tab targeting, click buttons to use abilities, cartoony graphics… the only thing it really does that is unique is the node system which again, is a PvP, competitive 'us versus them' focused thing.

Even the world looks bland and uninteresting… I think back to the days of the world Aion was creating, and that is just, as far as an interesting fantasy setting goes, infinitely better than what they are creating here.

People play WoW because of the hardcore raiding scene.

People play FFXIV for the story and chill community.

    Why will people play AoC?

Also Dynamic Server Meshing was created by CIG for Star Citizen, why are they pretending like this is something they came up with and invented lol.

  9. Things are impossible until they’re not. Flight, space travel, nuclear fusion etc were all thought impossible at one point in time. It takes a smarter and more determined networking team apparently.

  10. Even if this is not the best MMO for some player types, the fact they pushed the tech so far, i.e. the multithreading, will possibly, hopefully, bring in a new era of MMOs, where the multiplayer aspects will finally be seamless. Amazing job. I originally just followed out of curiosity, having never payed a sub for a game. This might be the one I'll start with.
