I want to add some additional Context to the Tetris Inventory system as Steven also took to the Reddit to clear up some missconceptions:
To add additional context for this question; Inventory for A2 will exist in two categories, spatial and non-spatial. The spatial inventory system will only exist for materials and gatherables. The non-spatial system will be the normal single slot inventory that is used for all completed items IE gear, consumables etc.. The spatial system is intended to provide limitation and progression when everything in the open world is gatherable, requiring players to strategize which things they choose to gather or not. These spatial inventories will be shaped in various ways that make the bag types more d conducive for certain types of gatherables allowing players to specialize their capacity. How does interacting with a bag make it easier to get your stuff back? It's not going to take over 30 minutes to loot is it? You can't run back to your corpse, the world is too big and there's no fast travel.

My main concern with FreeHolds isn't the lv.50 gate, it's individuals having to compete with Guilds for the same property.
Ashes is trying to bridge this major gap with their Family System, but I don't think it will survive testing without changes.
They need to remove Apartments at Stage 4 Node, and replace them with in-Node instanced housing up to Journeyman.

I really like the inventory system. Hate me all you want. It's the best way of handling MMO inventory. Weight is dumb.

One of the reasons gw2 is my fav mmorpg is there is no maintenance downtime.. not sure why this isnt the norm for any mmo out there…
The Tetris inventory system looks very interesting, as long as everyone is playing with the same system. Steven opened a bag-o-worms with his Freehold system. Freeholds are a very desirable game play system, everyone wants one. However less than 10% of accounts will ever own one with the majority of these accounts being controlled by large guilds. Remember, the main purpose of a Freehold is a throttle gate to limit high-end processed items. But rest assured, you will be able to purchase the high-end Freehold created items from the large guilds that owns them (maybe, if you are rich enough $$$$$$).

So sad no one is understanding mega guilds want to be a part of the same node and a server cant have 82 mega guilds controlling all nodes so there Will be plenty freeholds to players not in the mega guilds

Geesh, these comments really need to utilize the Ashes Wiki. The game is infinitely more complex than any other MMO you’ve played, brainlessly stating false worries/information shows that you’re judging the game with ZERO knowledge about how these systems work.
Your speculation has an answer. Look it up. If it’s not there, then you will see whether or not you have genuine concerns come Alpha 2.

As cool as this game sounds, they definitely have completely ignored the trend of MMOs for better or for worse. They will have an uphill battle getting player retention, when everything is is basically predicated on guilds running everything, Or a certain popular bald streamer comes in and basically ends up owning the node of his choice. Maybe I’m wrong. Either way I’ll be at least checking it out.

I thought the bag system was needlessly over complicated until Steven explained the reasoning behind it. I think this is a good example of why we need to wait and see the game for ourselves before nitpicking every detail of the game.
At least Steven sticks to his vision rather than crumpling as the slightest bit of criticism.
Some of these features will be great when they're added to world of warcraft over the next few expansions ahead of AoC's release 😅
