As far as MMORPGs go Ashes of Creation just got a massive world buff. Increasing to 3x its original size it certainly sparks a lot of questions. But in a world with limited fast travel are we doomed to just wander the world? Lets find out!

  1. My biggest concern in regards to travel is the tools they will give us for map traversal.

Mounts in Guild Wars 2 feel and play great, not only to get you from A to B but also they also entice you to explore and try to get to random areas and such (until you run out of unique stuff to find).

In any sand park game I've played, the leveling up of my traversal capabilities expands the play space immensely over time (I love to bring up the Batman Arkham series here). Not being able to go somewhere and then earning the capability to go there later feels good and enhances that experience. If they don't do something like this with ashes, I feel they are going to leave a huge exploration gameplay loop on the table, especially when you pair it with map changes upon Node leveling.

Additionally, I want race specific or archetype specific out of combat mechanics. A lot of those that you could think up can be related to traversal mechanics.

At the end of the day, I don't mind the "walking simulation" as long as my tools for traversing said walk are more than just hold up arrow and the occasional jump.

  2. what are mounts? 🤔What are ships? hehe shitposting aside I think total size expansion plus the reduction of the nodes is probably done for streamlining, that many nodes was probably creating a complexity bottleneck on the backend IMHO.

  3. I think theve done lots of test with traversing the world and made these changes to strengthen the game. Steven isn't a dummy and I just don't see him installing a walking simulator for 45mil plus.
We won't know till we get into alpha2, but I feel more than certain we are going to have a blast for the first month the game launches and then many months/years after.
Just imagine the craziness when a server makes it to the metropolis stage for a world first…its going to be a rush by everyone on the server just to see it. People tend to think this game is going to due out after its first month…i just don't see it happening, there is way too much to experience and see for the population to die after just a month, but we will see.
I'm playing the wrath classic and so b forgot how much running it was to level a toon and people aren't complaining a bit .I think we're going to be be ok.
