Ashes of Creation 2025 Interview | The Ban Situation

Impromptu interview with Creative Director of Intrepid Studios Steven Sharif to discuss the Ban situation in MMORPG Ashes of Creation. The work in progress MMO recently took action against various accounts for exploiting, cheating, harassment, and more by administering character deletions, account suspensions, and bans. Steven addressed the community and sets precedent for the future of this MMO as we hear from his perspective and hear from the perspective of a guild leader whom had members affected by character deletions.
As a reminder please do not send hate to anyone mentioned or alleged exploiters. I also do not condone witch hunts of them, nor have issues with anyone mentioned and would like to see the community learn, grow, and move forward from this.

  1. So, some known scum bags exploited a system in order to get an advantage, got caught, were properly punished, and are complaining because they were held accountable for their actions.
Just one more reason this is going to be a phenomenal MMO. Cant wait for full release!

  2. Totally agree with Polar's GM, they did everything conceivable including getting feedback from a developer.

Steven did say developer feedback is not a rule though as they are not part of the Community Team. Maybe Steven will have an update once he reviews your video.

  3. Interesting choice of words:

" I SET THE THRESH HOLD HIGH WHEN IT COMES TO IDENTIFYING, INDIVIDUALS WHO I FEEL ARE DISRUPTING THE PLAY ENVIRONMENT THREW THESE EXPLOITATIVE ACTS"

meaning "I pick those who I deem an issue, based off what they've done and how I FEEL"

  4. From someone watching in on vyra, Polar get alot of unnecessary hate for this, intrepid should have removed the entire system before P2 launched if it was not intended game mechanics, especially as it was reported hundreds of times prior

  5. Its to bad the ban wave caught a ton of bystanders. If you accepted money in trade from a person who exploited, your character was deleted. So a ton of mount sellers had their accounts deleted plus a bunch of random people who've barely played this phase. Steven is apparently looking into it as the tools don't seem to be working very well.

  6. Polar is essentially the rebuilt EPH. Are we really surprised by any of their BS? Let's be clear: Exploiting is cheating, so let's call them what they are. They are cheats. They were known as cheats before Ashes. They were known as cheats pretesting. They were busted as cheats in Phase 1. They can try to rationalize all they want, but it comes down to this: If you have to rationalize your behavior, you're doing things the wrong way. That's not testing. EPH and it's members are bad for the game. Period. They need to go back to TaL. Ashes is a real MMO for real MMO players. We're trying to have something special here. Their kind of trash isn't welcome here. Their behavior and mentality shows a real lack of character IRL. I am very disappointed in the decisions to just delete characters. That is not a punishment to these people. The pricks have literally said as much openly. This is a great punishment for 1st timers as a legit warning shot. We passed warning shot phase a while ago. It's not going to accomplish anything, but hey…copium I guess? – PS: RIP Plannindorf 🤣🤣🤣

  7. I can tell you spamming wars was in Phase 1 and we were told not to do it after it was reported! Just because we are in a new phase doesn't mean you can just do it. Funny how Polar always said they weren't doing all these things and even had evidence deleted on reddit and discord to try and cover up.

  8. I don't have a problem calling this a game. They want us to "play their game" and report problems and give feedback. We have the PTR to merely test systems before releasing to the game. This is fun game that many of us are putting a lot of time into not just because we want to help test, but because it IS a fun game. Steven needs to remember that if he wants this style of a test environment, and I think he knows it. There need to be considerations about the player experience. If not, the amount of testers will go down instead of up. Getting guilds and basic chat functions going will be hugely beneficial in that regard. I think Intrepid is killing it and I hope they keep delivering.
