I cannot believe the year 2022 is almost behind us. Where did this year go? It really doesn’t matter, but what is really impressive for the year 2022 is how much development Ashes of Creation has finished. Between Dec 2021 and Dec 2022 Intrepid has migrated from UE4 to UE5 and then 5.1. They’ve grown their staff size from around 120 to north of 165. They’ve shown off quite a lot of new things like Biomes, Seasons, Weather, the melee and ranged kits, and group play with the Cleric. Intrepid is clearly taking the time to build not only an amazing game but an amazing team. That was evident in their recent livestream where a total of 15 different staff members from Intrepid were on camera talking about everything from Engineering, the Environment and Sound, to Combat, to gathering.
That’s not to say everything this year has been sunshine and rainbows. There are still a few millstones that Intrepid has hanging on their necks that they should make a priority to answering in Jan of 2023 just to clear the slate, zero the game, and then move forward.

Great video.
I thought they blew this year out of the water. I'm happy with the latest combat they showed. What I don't want is a bdo clone with street fighter paced combat, i.e. Kung fu theater fashion show.
I'm very happy with their progress. I do agree that steep pay wall is rough…if they would open that up…man I think they would make a ton of more money.
I won't be buying any, but to each is own on that front. I'm very excited for Alpha2, I'm guessing June or July now, but it'd fine. Anywho, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Keep the vids coming!!
Do you think it's possible that since it's been 17 months since alpha 1. When alpha 2 drops depending on the data collected that the beta would come sooner than we think? Also I've reached a point where I was super hyped for ashes and I still am. But I find now I come to the channel every couple months to check what has changed. I really do like where everything is going, but I fear that it will put quite the strain on my PC to play it. have you heard of what kind of specs we will be looking at when it does release?
If anything was a home run it was this video. Always quality content coming from you man. I think Intrepid is mid – Some wins, some losses, but overall doing what they need to be doing to achieve the results they're looking for. They're certainly not rushing it, which I personally have no issues with. There's definitely a such thing as taking too long, but I don't think they're quite that slothful.
At this point I’m over caring about this game until something substantial happens. Usually I’m optimistic but the cosmetic thing is a like the ship thing in star citizen but at least the ships are flyable (I know SC is a tech demo at this point). I jsut feel like the cosmetics are going to be the biggest controversy unless they have one or two ppl purely devoted to make those NFT packs they sale at this point. Sorry to be so down I’m just kinda at my wits with this.
Honestly as someone who backed Ashes on Day 1 and was in the first 10K backers. I think what they are doing with the Combat system is in the end what will kill Ashes. They have listen to too many of the vocal minority of the player base that sit on the forums all day. Where the vast majority of players will never go to the forums. Like you said if AA2 comes out and is very successful Ashes will be DOA. Kakao Games built 2 Action Combat games, intrepid studios built 0 games. I am not saying intrepid studios cant succeed however Action Combat takes A LOT of effort to get right and if action combat is not done right your game will end up like Crowfall or even New World. Where As Tab Target is a whole hell of a lot easier to get in a GOOD state where you can work on iterations to make the combat better.
At this point the more time that passes and we are still in development the more likely Ashes will fail. Just look at CU, and Pantheon, no one is left interested in those games outside of a few hundred people. In all Honesty its Action Combat that is causing Ashes to stay in Development this long.
Bro, im just so tired of paying money for a game and then paying a subscription. And then playing the game, knowing im going to look like ass compared to people who buy cosmetics. Every month they release cool looking cosmetics… and im just going to be a dude looking like an npc guard. Yeah buddy.
The quality of their LS seems to be on an upward trend. Here's to an even better year in 2023.
I am very confused about the cosmetics part of the whole thing, cause some of the cosmetics looks really good, but it really bums me out not gonna lie that i know that i don't have change to acquire those cosmetics in-game nor can i fork over 300€ to a game that literally does not exist YET.
Just a lot of confusion that is kinda eating me about it and as you pointed out in the video, i cannot understand why in Gods name they are not talking about the cosmetics more, like how theyare going to work, are you able to get them later when the game is out, whats the deal?
Cause, if you are not able to get those cosmetics in the game later (either playing the game or using their cash shop to buy em when the game is out) there is SO much cosmetic stuff that me, as a potential customer who has not had the change (or guts tbh) to put down 300€ to pack to get cosmetics for the game that is not out, that i feel actually a bit demoralized about the game when it hits me that i might not be able to have ANY of those amazing looking cosmetics myself and it would mean that i would be left without over a YEAR worth of potential cosmetic goodies.
I know cosmetics do not make the game, but it really demoralizes me about the game to know that i am basically "cut out" of all those cosmetic goodies.
