In this episode of Caravan Blitz, ItsFayne and I break down Intrepid Studios highly anticipated upcoming MMORPG Ashes of Creation. We take a look at open world vs. instanced dungeons, how Intrepid Studios is developing this game in a way no other MMO has ever been developed, and if it would be possible to have a brand new map on launch day.

  1. About PvPing in dungeons: I am hoping that it will be viable to PvP other groups in dungeons. I would assemble my group for just the purpose of being able to kill bosses while engaging in combat with other players. Everyone would need some sort of asset (ability/ build type) to accomodate for PvP scenarios, while still being effective in the PvE Trinity (tank/ heal/ DPS). I hope the character builds in this game are complex enough to accomodate for this.

  2. I think people are too scared of open-world PVP just because they've never played a game with open-world PVP, I've played Lineage2 for 6 years and when it started it had basically the same corruption system as Ashes does and what I remember from my experience there actually was quite a low amount of players that are actually willing to be corrupted, most of PVP's were consensual and as Fayne said, for any boss or grind spot it was always, oh we let you finish this first, then we go. People were acting pretty polite, with few exceptions which were actually quite fun, for example, I remember farming a certain dagger in the area and when it dropped one guy with a red nameplate(corrupted) ran out of the woods and tried to kill me before I grab it, he managed to get me and I've called my friends so we went out on the hunt for this bad boy, eventually, we found him and cornered him and when he died, he not only dropped my dagger, but also a chest plate that was actually better than mine, and I have many memories like this which were all great fun and a great time. So all in all I have very high hopes for Ashes open-world PVP because I remember how good it was back in the day and I'm kinda missing this feeling of being hunted or hunting someone and always staying on alert, to fight or run if anyone tries to get you

  3. I'm interested in AoC in the main because of the focus on group play. I'm totally ok with going into a dungeon with my group and being constantly on guard for other groups who I automatically assume will attack my group. Dungeons are dangerous places and hostile players are, of course, the greatest (and often most fun) danger. I do hope that the game mechanics will make it difficult for an opposing group to steal a kill at the last minute, as in years past I've seen players rage quit when that happens too often.

  4. PvP in boss fights is super fun! DAoC did it, and it worked there. Darkness Falls was hell of a lot of fun, with the RvRvR in the dungeon. Percentage base is perfect for balance. If a strong group comes in and your group kills the boss, but they wiped you all out, they should not be able to keep you from looting that boss.

Also, what you guys say about Intrepid being different, that is the reason I camped, and was a backer for the game in the first minute it hit kickstarter. As much as I want the game to be here in its full glory, it is the one title, I am most excited for, and do not mind if it takes another 2-3 years. This is because of them being mostly transparent, down to earth, and self funded.

I am glad the idea I had said about nodes being random on servers, is confirmed, that is really awesome.

  5. I'm dropping this link from MA y moons ago of some world pvp from Rift. Medusa was IMO the best mage in the game. Learned alot from him. I think people will even out since corruption will play a role in this mmo. But as always I'm anxious to see how it pans out. PVP WILL scare some away, with that said, people are lazy, and don't want to thrill of paying attention to more than one task at hand, but we will see.

Yes, Intrepid is different thank God, and I think they are doing a heck of a job for an indie studio.
Yeah, randomize nodes will be a thing, and it should be.
    Great vid as always.

  6. Some of the reasons why people like to play MMORPGs solo is because the option of grouping and doing group things is always there if you choose to. I'm 100% guilty to this on any MMO that I've played (and I've played most since 1999). Also more than not, MMO seem to be more dynamic and offer an ever changing experiences. Yeah you can get DLC for single players.. but you have to wait for that most times. MMO are living breathing things. Personally I don't get the same feeling from single players as I do MMO. Even when I play Minecraft.. I built a mini server so I can make multiplayer instances just in case I want others to join. Sometimes I get in the mood to help less fortunate or new players do quests, kill mobs.. whatever… But it's an option when playing an MMO.. not so much in a single player game. So for some to say that Ashes isn't a solo game, better off playing a single player game… I beg to differ… Will it be harder? Yes… Can you still get shit done? At your own pace? Hell yeah… I'll more than likely be playing Ashes solo most of the time.. well along with my fiancé that is. It really makes me sigh out loud when some try to turn soloers away from what sounds like an awesome game all because they like the solo life.
