Are Game Guides Still Worth Buying? | Who Still Pre-Orders Games? | MMORPG Twitch Podcast Episode 36

☕ Welcome to episode 36 of our Twitch MMORPG podcast called The Trinity MMO Show! As always we go over some of the popular and interesting things that happened within the MMORPG world. But the main topic of discussion is about guides. Not necessarily for MMOs, but for gaming in general.

Because everything is digital these days, guides in the form of a physical copy seems to have diminished over the years, and many gamers can now look up a question or problem they have on Google and get their answers in a matter of seconds.

These days, to buy one, gamers buy it because of its novelty or because it is a special collector’s edition that enhances the game’s experience. Guides were certainly more popular during the 90s and early 2000s.

We also talk about the pros and cons of pre ordering games. This came up (again) because of the huge release and (what some may say) failure of Cyberpunk 2077’s expectations.

Here are some other things we talked about just briefly:

Blue Protocol – Asian release this year 2021, North American release (tentatively) 2022
ArenaNet has announced that the studio will be ending Mac support on Thursday, February 18th, as a result of Apple’s move away from OpenGL graphics technology that first started in 2018
Chronicles of Elyria – still in work after all, but lawsuit still proceeding. Work continues and will indeed release.
Trio of Alpha One tests over the winter and early spring. A brand-new website for the MMO also is coming next month, as is word of whether or not Intrepid will be selling more alpha keys.

But because it’s a podcast, that’s not all we talk about. Some other topics and discussions in today’s video are included in a QUEST FORMAT! Here are some of the things we talked about briefly while going over the news and updates of the MMORPG industry….

Various descriptions of the games talked about in today’s are provided from their official website:

World of Warcraft – https://worldofwarcraft.com/
“Pledge allegiance to one of two warring factions, the Alliance or the Horde. Join or create a hand-picked group or guild of adventurers like yourself, and take on Azeroth’s foes. Choose from a myriad of classes and races, then level up and amass power at your own pace.”

Ashes of Creation – https://ashesofcreation.com/mmo
“Ashes of Creation takes place within a medieval fantasy setting, blending imagination with cutting-edge graphics. We are putting the word massive back into massively multiplayer with unique and novel mechanics that will bring meaning to player action.”

Black Desert Online – https://blackdesertonline.fandom.com/
“Black Desert, also known as Black Desert Online, often abbreviated as BDO, is a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game (MMORPG) developed by Pearl Abyss and released for the first time on July 2015, in Korea, for the PC.”

  1. I used to buy Game Guides (not a low but some) but not in a very long time.

Since FFXIV was brought up, last month patch 5.4 was released and 5.4.1 is dropping tomorrow. Every expansion has 5 patches over the course of two years so we know that 5.4.5 will be out sometime soon and 5.5 sometime after that. 6.0 would probably have been released this summer but due to the delays caused by the Pandemic it will probably be later this year.
