Final Fantasy XIV is a very well constructed MMORPG, with a beginning levelling experience that surpasses any other MMO on the market. That doesn’t mean that I don’t have any complaints however…

Final Fantasy XIV is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed and published by Square Enix. Directed and produced by Naoki Yoshida, it was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 3 in August 2013, as a replacement for the failed 2010 version of the game, with support for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and macOS releasing later. Final Fantasy XIV takes place in the fictional land of Eorzea, five years after the events of the original 2010 release. At the conclusion of the original game, the primal dragon Bahamut escapes from its lunar prison to initiate the Seventh Umbral Calamity, an apocalyptic event which destroys much of Eorzea. Through the gods’ blessing, the player character escapes the devastation by time traveling five years into the future. As Eorzea recovers and rebuilds, the player must deal with the impending threat of invasion by the Garlean Empire from the north.

More about Final Fantasy XIV:

“Final Fantasy XIV is an MMORPG and features a persistent world in which players can interact with each other and the environment. Players create and customize their characters for use in the game, including name, race, gender, facial features, and starting class. Unlike in the original release, players may only choose to be a Disciple of War or Magic as a starting class—Disciples of the Hand and Land are initially unavailable. Players must also select a game server for characters to exist on. While servers are not explicitly delineated by language, data centers have been placed in the supported regions (i.e., North America, Europe, Japan) to improve the communication latency between the server and the client computer and players are recommended to choose a server in their region. Regardless of server or language, the game features a large library of automatically translated game terms and general phrases which allow players who speak different languages to communicate.”

  1. You should have gotten a pile of Vesper Bay Aethryte tickets after your first trip to the Waking Sands, they should never really run out and take you directly to the Waking Sands with no running. They added these to directly respond to this problem.

  2. I agree. I just got into Ishgard myself. It was a bit of a trudge through post ARR. But it was a great setup.
Do you have vesper bay aetheryte tickets?
From what I have heard from my FC is Endwalker plans to fix some of the early stuff and balence the levels out better for 0 to 50.
I have yet to watch your livestreams and I plan to. What classes are you maining?

  3. Honestly, this video is too early. Way too early. You’re judging the game before even hitting max level. Comparing ARR to anything is just a bad idea. Redo this video once you hit level 80

  4. the credits thing happens for future expansions too. 3.0 (heavensward) has a credits at the end of it, and then another credits at 3.3, and then another at 3.5. same pattern for stormblood, and shadowbringers. x.0 usually ends the base story, x.3 usually ties up lose ends and is an epilogue of sorts, x.4 and x.5 are the lead ups to the next expansion.

  5. Okay so:

    1. The Waking Sands.
Yes it's a slog, but by this point you should be able to get a Chocobo Mount from your Grand Company to make the travel faster. Also, even though Horizon may seem like the closest Aetheryte to Vesper Bay, getting a boat from La Noscea to Vesper Bay actually saves the most time.

    2. Yeah the fragmented world sucks.

    3. The voice acting in ARR isn't good at all, yeah. I rationalise it as Square Enix having only a 2 year turnover on making the re-release of the game and so it was a rushed job to cobble it all together. By Heavensward the studio changes and it all massively improves.

    4. Yeah the buildup to Level 50 is slow, nothing to add here.

    5. So this one is kind of complex to explain, and I don't fault you at all for not knowing. First and foremost, there are patches with 3-month intervals that are released after the game launches, totalling about 5 patches before the next expansion. They tend to tie up the story of the game, and open the door for the next expansion so that the player is never lacking in story content as they make the next game.

As for the Moogle fight…in truth, it was never really supposed to exist – at least, not in the way it does now. The original plan was to have the next patch contain a fight with a Primal that causes tidal waves and water-based damage, but Japan was hit by one of its largest Tsunamis ever around this time, and the developers felt it would be inappropriate to do so. As such, they reworked that patch to include more light-hearted and funny battles to alleviate the stresses of the Japanese playerbase at the time, and that's why King Mooglemog is sort of randomly wedged in there.

  6. Mog king is totally a primal.

The reason why there is post ARR is because they were making HW and they need filler so people dont get bored.

But yes i do agree that is the worst part of the whole game

  7. thanx for the vid ma man , alot of great points that should be addressed are in this video but man through the eyes of people that got through the entire msq those dull moments set up alot of stuff later on to the point that i don't really see a point where they can keep the story's integrity while trimming more of it although some of it still isn't really that important

  8. Your gripes are understandable. I will say, once you reach the other expansions, the world grows more and more. There will even be locations that are massive and wont have divided areas.

And as for the quests, ill tell you my perspective. I just clicled through all the dialogue and then felt bad later down the line in Heavensward where an emotional attachment was supposed to have a pay off, but since I skipped all the dialogue, I didnt relish the thought more than I shouldve.

ARR is kinda trash in that, but hopefully after you finish the other expansions, this will be just a bad trip.

  9. Walking to the waking sands does indeed suck. However after you run out of the waking sands tokens (they teleport you there directly), instead go to Limsa, use the aetherite and go to the Arcanist’s guild, and talk to the npc behind the desk to the left….this will
Let you ride a ship right to the entrance to the waking sands!

  10. The reason ARR is the way it is is because we didn't have much content back in the day after praetorium and they didn't have very many resources and so to give us content they kept adding more and more quest so we have something to hold us over until heavensward. I am not sure how they can trim it down considering there's so much setup but the payoff at the end of it is worth it

  11. As a new player you should receive pile of tickets that will allow you to teleport to Vesper Bay. It's explained in the story why there's no Aetheryte in there.
You also need to remember that this game was released on PS3, and is still being supported on PS4/PS5 – and due to spaghetti code, they can't really change it – thus instanced zones.
From Heavensward onwards there's new studio, and dub is so much much better 🙂

  12. 1. Teleport to limsa -> Aethernet -> Arcanists' Guild – > Ferry Ticketer – > Arrive into the waking sands. Also Vesper bay ticks that you should have received along the msq now.
    2. Fragmented worlds/sections largely exists because the game is also on console. I believe they've mentioned they could technically merge the zones now since the PS4 and PS5 are much stronger than the ps3 but I wouldn't count on it anytime soon.
    3. ARR has the worse voice acting, it gets a lot better once you get to HW and beyond. I personally usually like using Japanese voices, but the dub is decent past ARR.
4 True, ARR has two major problems left that they should really cut down even more. The infamous Titan section that just feels like filler until everything gets into gear until you reach praetorium and then the post ARR quests(2.1 – 2.55 patches).

Honestly, the post ARR stuff is easily the worst part of the ARR experience, but I think once you get to a certain trial the pacing goes pretty well. HW and everything after generally has way better pacing and meaningful story. The post HW arc(3.1-3.3 patches) is still up there for best section in the game next to shadowbringers for me.

  13. Another commentator always said my piece so I will only write what I would like being improved on: the maps. Just increase coloring by a smaaaaaall bit, thats all I'm asking for. When I started out and first came to La Nosca I didnt know it was an island! Even know identifying rivers and lakes or even coastlines is a guessing game. Not that its that important, but it irritates me still…

And, sorry… you run around in lvl50 dragoon armor and dont ride your mount??? … I notice something. You, too? 😛

  14. 1. You are given teleport tickets to vesper bay. Devs i guess need ro make a pop up about them.

    2. Fragmented world is a ps3 problem and then a continued dev decision unlikely to change due to how its used to tell story now.

    3. Arr voice acting did lacked coaching and directors a bit despite top star talent. Things that change when they swapped companies for hw afterwards.

    4. ARR story still lays down quite a bit of foundation even during thr titan quest line. The company of heroes basically had 300 people march into titans lair, first hundred would get tempered, second hundred would fight the first and third would take on titan himself. The whole feast thing was the final meal they had before going on that suicide mission. Moogle fight is the first time the story throws a wrench in the "primal theory" because atm you as expressed perfectly are confused as it was belived you cant make up a new primal from scratch or fairy tales or real beings, they will constantly throw a wrench in the primal thoery and its fun to try to unravel it.

    5. You'll get a second set of end credits for ARR, not going to explain more.

  15. 1. Check out the chocobo keepers in every town. They are Eorzea's very cheap taxi service. You don't need to walk or teleport everywhere.
    2. The zones may be instanced but the scale is superior. I like seeing trees that are way taller than I am and cities that are large and full of players doing things, rather than the toy villages with nobody around except at an auction house. Oh, and maybe we burn down the city (Nelf city) or fill it with poison (UC) because, idk, why not …
    3. No No No :). ARR is Eorzea's Vanilla. I think it is fine if some people dislike the pacing. Perfectly valid! You are giving it a fair shot and that's great.
But I don't want the game changed or improved or tightened up so we can get people into Heavensward faster. We do that and it's gone forever. FFXIV came out in 2013 – that is a lot of years of game play that I want kept around for the players who want it. Remember how wow's revamp of its leveling zones in Cataclysm was received. Be careful what we wish for!
    4. The trend of kind of odd early leveling compared with great balance and pacing at end game will continue. Enjoy your journey and welcome to Eorzea!

  16. All fair critiques of ARR. Thanks for sharing and glad you are enjoying it.

#5. This is something that you will experience again. The reason is because the MSQ for that expansion concludes before the next major expansion. So there is continuous content that is release as we wait for the expansion to drop, and some of it transitions the story forward. I think once you are caught up and experience this yourself it may make a bit more sense to you. But totally fair point as a new player.

  17. Wait, did you just complain about travel then say that the world doesn't feel big?

I had to travel from Gridania to Ul Dah, by foot, on a new character to meet with a friend recently. Do that trek and then tell me the world doesn't feel massive.

  18. Yeah the "Pray return to the waking sands" is really annoying. They did add a teleport ticket, but still. They could make flying available earlier in ARR zones. Voice acting changes in HSW, for the better. You are covered there. ARR still has a lot of quests they can cut, yes. Aye, you see the credits twice per game/expansion, but u can skip them.

  19. 1, for new players it is actually better because they get teleport tickets to Vesper Bay. "BAck in myyy dayyy" 😀

2, I recommend to read up the game's history. The original 1.0 version had no loading screens but the game was trash. They had to cut the zones up because they redid the whole game under 2 years. Thank god the newer zones feel more massive.

3, Just change back to japanese voice 😉 I personally play with japanese, I love it.

4, Yeah I agree, ARR has some grindy and not really interesting parts. And to be fair they already redid ARR and cut out more than 100! quests 10 months ago. So you experienced the cleaned up version!

5, Patch stories you need to get used to. In FF we have a regular patch cycle (5 patches in each cycle and each of them comes with story) so we get story content between two expansions.
MoogleKing is just a joke, we hate him too 🤣

  20. None of the 5 things are serious problems. For future reference you should always remember that this game was also available to PS3, so there were a lot of limitations on a lot of things. You can hire a chocobo for 30 gil that will ride you to your destination, pretty sure you've met a few in your way to the Vesper bay.

  21. 1. Waking Sands is bad, everyone agrees.
    2. Fractured Zones. Its not a FF issue, it's a console issue. Specifically video game consoles cannot handle an MMO open world. Want open world, you'd have to cut out consoles and that isn't gonna happen anytime at the moment.
    3. ARR voice acting is bad but I will say its a budget issue to add more.
4.ARR post base game is bad mostly because the devs were squeezing out content until Heavensward is ready for release. The size and tedium of post content is never this severe again

  22. So funny story about The walking sands The game gives you a stack of 30 tickets that teleport you there, which should be enough to get you there for every quest needed I also didn't realize this until I finished ARR and a FC mate was helping me clean out my inventory 🤦🏽‍♂️

    Reply
  23. yep walking sands is far, but as others mentioned, should be able to ride a mount by lv 25-ish (and can increase the mount speeds a bit too, when participating in "A" rank hunts on the map, but that probably only unlocks at lv 50)

luckily there are not such far HQs anymore

  24. Fortunately some of these won't be an issue later in the game but all still fair criticisms! I especially wasn't a fan of the English VAs and voice directing in ARR and was happy when things changed in Heavensward.

I love FFXIV but 3 of my personal gripes: 1) Glamour system is a pain to use. I wish they'd adopt something like WoW's transmog or Guild Wars 2 fashion. 2) Some Mogstation items being character-bound and not for your entire account. I like having multiple characters for RP purposes and if I'm going to spend additional real $$ I want the glamour, mounts, minions, etc to be available on any character I choose to make. 3) Lack of housing availability. I want a house but I don't have the time or dedication (insanity) to camp a plot for hours on end on the off chance I can beat the other campers.

Sounds like you're still having a good time in FFXIV. I'm excited to see more videos of your adventures! Good luck!
