What is Ashes of Creation?

Ashes of Creation takes place within a medieval fantasy setting, blending imagination with cutting-edge graphics. We are putting the word massive back into massively multiplayer with unique and novel mechanics that will bring meaning to player action.

Ashes of Creation will incorporate the best parts of traditional MMORPGs with innovative sandbox concepts.

Ashes of Creation is a unique take on the MMO experience. Our world structure is dynamic and built to react to the actions of our players. Cities will rise and fall, their populations based on the history of the world as the players create it. Quests will unlock as these populations gather, their needs grow, and secrets are unlocked. As the world’s NPC structure is established in real time, players will have the ability to destroy what they’ve created, paving the way for new development, new populations, and real change. Political strife and intrigue will play a very real role in the structure of your world. Gone are the days of static worlds, change is here to stay.

  1. I think the younger generation praises these "bad" games is because that's just what they have available. To them, that's as good as it gets. I don't think kids today are as different from past generations as people make it seem. Companies have evolved to squeeze every last dime out of it's players, and they've learned to walk a fine line of acceptable content and maximizing profits. Ashes gives me hope because they promise NOT to be pay to win & are going back to a "classic subscription model". I'm also excited they're getting back to the hardcore MMO roots and ditching the more recent "conveniences" of catering to casuals (such as power scaling). I think it will be wildly popular. I also think most of the people complaining aren't so much upset about a game that might be "grindy", but are more upset that they themselves have outgrown the ability to dump 8+ hours/day into an MMO like they could when they were a kid. That's why I think Ashes will be even MORE popular to young players. Young players excel when they are rewarded for their time. It's the older players who benefit from the conveniences of pay-to-win, XP catchup mechanics, etc. I hear so many older players reminisce about the good old days, and then complain about games that require a large time investment. Everyone wants to have their cake and eat it too.

  2. Sorry for multiple comments, but this podcast has some good conversation points – IMO, the rise of "daily quests" happened as yet another way to cater to casuals. It offered great rewards for logging in and playing for 1 hour. Dailies by design must be over weighted in their rewards in order to offer a way for casuals to make progress in the little time they have. That also means that there are diminishing returns beyond doing your dailies. The side effect is now people feel like they MUST log in to do their dailies or else they're missing out on great rewards. The 2nd side effect is now casuals feel stuck in a loop of grinding dailies, because that's the best use of their limited time. The solution is to ditch the daily quest model, reward players for their time making progress, and just focus on creating great content at all levels of the game so that casuals can feel good just playing the content no matter what level they're at. – P.s. In pay-to-win games, dailies offer a way to get players to log in every day, and therefore offer more opportunities to spend money. However, in a classic subscription game, there's no real monetary benefit to have casuals log in EVERY day. As long as they're still playing casually, happy with the progression content, and paying their monthly sub, that's all that matters.
