Man, prepping a coffee before scrolling the comments to this one. What you guys think? If there's ONE thing (big or small) an MMO has to get right to succeed, what would that be?
In an MMORPG vs a single player game, I think the defining feature is a sense of community. It also helps to allow the player to develop an attachment to their character/avatar, by things like customization, a meaningful story, etc.
Staying in touch with the player base is big too. Not just listening to the feedback but using it to develop future content.
Thank you for info. on Final Fantasy 14. Question – Can a new player start at 14 or do they have to Start at Final Fantasy 1? I think I will check this game out when I finish building my computer in about a week or so.

I disagree with some of what you said i think new world has huge potential, their devs have shown they will listen to feed back and they have done huge changes in the space of 9 months. If amazon continue investment and serious development i think it has the potential to be a real sleeper. I think it is still fantasy sure less flashy but, you have your spell casters etc and they will be able to build on this with new weapon additions and or new islands in the future.
Ashes of creation is actually the one i think which will be huge at launch and then fall flat. It all sounds incredible on paper but im not convinced things like mayoral systems etc will work in a huge mmo setting. I see them either hugely undelivering or a mish mash of systems are added that arent fun to play against. I also think they need to do something with their character models as they look very weird/out of place in their game world. I know its still far off but i think after the apocalypse nonsense i think people need to calm expectations.
