The EFFECT of Open World PvP Against Casuals! | Ashes of Creation Commentary (Reupload)

A video discussing open world pvp and how I’ve interacted with it in the past. Followed up by some simple Ashes of Creation related questions. I wanted to talk about how some people talk about pvp. I’ve noticed a tendency for people to assume that they die immediately after a safe zone, which is true depending on the circumstances. Some games, like Archeage and Black Desert, did a decent job at mitigating unnecessary pvp.

This video is a reupload because I originally left out about 20 seconds by mistake. Wups.

  1. Reupload because I cut off 20 seconds of the end and didn't notice for two days. I tend to get nervous about new uploads, so I generally try to avoid looking at views, likes and dislikes for a day or two, and didn't notice the mistake because of that. Thanks to Quin and Kalianyia for letting me know! I really appreciate it. 😀

  2. The Caravan system will be a very limited system. Steven talks about "Risk vrs. Reward". As a player trying to move goods from point A to point B, the only reward is that your goods arrive at point B. The Risk is that the caravan gets attacked and looted. You not only loose your goods, but you also loose your caravan wagon (which will not be cheap), and your draft animal pulling the wagon (which will not be cheap). Every caravan wagon may as well have a flashing neon sign on the side that says "FREE LOOT". Players and guilds will ensure that your caravan never arrives at its destination. So for the majority of players, caravans are all Risk, and little if any Reward. I believe caravans will be limited to NPC quest caravans, and very large guild caravans, where a large guild can supply dozens of escorts to ensure the caravans safety.

  3. No one ever talks about this: How does a player get from "Combatant" to "Non-Combatant"? The answer is : 90 seconds. Yup, 90 seconds after a Combatant (Ganker/Griefer) does his last action he turns into a Non-Combatant. So a Non-Combatant Ganker/Griefer who ganks a low level player turns into a Combatant, and gets to loot the corpse. 90 seconds later the Ganker/Griefer turns into a Non-Combatant and gets to gank again, and again and again, with just a 90 second cool-down each time. Gankers/Griefers need never get corrupted. A Ganker/Griefer has complete control as to weather he chooses to becomes corrupted or not. When you understand this, you will understand that open-world PvP is really going to be open-world Ganking. Also you will understand that getting flagged as "Corrupted" will be a very rare occurrence. If this game mechanic remains, Ashes of Creation will turn into a Giant Gank-Fest from day one! Gankers will be rewarded and their victims will be heavily punished. Does that sound like fun game-play?

  4. maybe for early in the games release is siege a counter to gear, but later on its about population. i'm worried about siege in this game, is it static and only able to be placed in certain areas? cuz in gw2 it can be placed anywhere, and if its placed well enough its only counterable by some classes or in the worst case scenario other siege or a zerg.
for gear disparities, its a trash concept for pvp. if a new player only wants to play a pvp mode but has to grind pve for the gear, it may (if its bad enough it will) turn the player off from the game. this happened to me with lost ark and black desert (more so the rng gear upgrades and the pay to progress trend in korean mmos). i hate excessive grinds just so i can finally play something i enjoy.

  5. Great video buddy!
How funny, I just posted a video about PvP in open world last night… I think we might be looking at a huge deterent for a specific player base. The other games you mention had systems in place to protect the players during their leveling (Archeage after 30, and Black Desert after 50) or even (With WoW and the two games I reference in my video, Asheron's Call and DAoC) PvP specific servers.

Ashes of Creation does not – and it will potentially, be an issue. Would love to hear your thoughts on my video – I'm going to share yours on my community.
