This game looks trash.
Prismatic beam could do ramping damage the long it hit a target and could also be a toggle ability that destroys your mana bar if you over use it
I'm really curious how will battlemage look like. 😀
Do weapons have skills too or just auto attacks
7:22 able to move around slowly or cast another spell during channeling the beam at max rank instead of snares hit targets.
Prismatic beam strikes me as an ability that would reduce an enemy's magic resistance. Maybe with every damage tick you stack a debuff that reduces their resistance. It would incentivise getting the hell out of the beam asap for every player in pvp (even, or especially, tanks), and it'd create a new burst window for the mage in pve. It's a nice group tool and could also be utilized for bursting down a pack of mobs that spawns during a boss fight and needs to be handled quickly.
Love the videos, thanks a lot.
Some feedback, just using the meteor as an example. Lv 2 – adds meteor, 33% more damage. Lv 3 – adds meteor, 25% increased damage (from what it would be). I agree that a cooler effect would be nice.
Make the meteors drop faster? Increased aoe/range of the spell. Put a firey floor on the ground. Not every ability needs to add utility but make it difficult for people to decide which abilities they want to push lv 3 for.
Ahh the music from Dalaran, how fitting.
Okay, so as someone who's played Archeage like Steven (loved AA & played it for years, despite hating it's P2W). And I almost ALWAYS end up rolling as a mage in any game I have ever played… I'd like to give feedback incase Steven sees it! Narc likes to tease me a bit in discord for the amount of stuff I write in a single comment. So Im sorry in advance, bare with me Narc! LOL!
#1. I love that I can be a support not only to myself, but others too with that Mana regen skill! I love that the healer I might need to rely on to keep me alive, wouldnt be the only one helping & giving to me, but that I too can give back to them with mana regen! This gives a nice mutual "give & take" feeling between two magical classes (healer & mage) I love this concept!
And if there are any other simple/subtle ways to further this & expand upon it, like maybe if I chose a support class as my secondary, consider adding it in! Maybe in the form of one or two buffs!
I remember in Archeage, if I chose to be a "Spellsinger" which was primarily Mage, but combined with Bard – I could play a musical skill that helped players move faster, or I could knockback & stun surrounding enemies with one! Or play a song skill that buffed our damage output as a group, when partied together! Or a song skill that gave us a very small heal over time. Was the best, most enjoyable class I ever played in any game, because I felt like my damage wasn't the only thing I was good for! I could be a damage dealing mage, who could also give back some via my supportive skills to help my raid members!
#2. Mages are usually glass canons! They deal massive damage, which might seem "broken" to non-mage players, but the trade off is they can get killed easily due to light armor! So considering mages have to deal with PvP in this game, where I'd be vulnerable to less squishy players, it's not broken at all! So PLEASE, due to the trade off that tends to make us glass canons, make it/keep it where mages deal big damage! Because otherwise the PvP aspects for mage will suck & feel unfair or unbalanced! I know skills will be tweaked/changed, since this is only Alpha… But I just want our trade off as mages to be kept in mind!
#3. I love that there's purple "void" like skills! Rather than just the typical elemental stuff! Keep that! As a mage, fire & lightening was always my favorite elements of choice! I feel like focusing on the unique void-looking skills & fire/lightening skills are what will make mage feel amazing to play! For aesthetic reasons, for feeling "powerful" via role play reasons… just YES! More of those types, please! HOWEVER, the last skill where there is some type of bright beam, make it purple-ish to match the feel of the void looking skills! This helps make it look a little less bright & flashy on the eyes, while keeping it "pretty" & coordinating with the previous appearance of the other void skills!
#4. Lastly… I know Ashes will have a lot of pvp, and focus a lot on social group efforts! Nothing at all wrong with that, I love it! But there will be times when we are still doing things on our own solo! I cant always rely on others around me, if Im by myself. Grinding mobs, questing, gathering in areas where we'll face mobs & possible hostile players… And as a mage player, Im not asking to be too overpowered to the point of broken! However, a lot of prior games I played felt like they had very little mobility, and only one or two AOEs that required a build up of points, like it's an ultimate skill I dont always have available (looking at you, elder scrolls online)! Would have to stand still, like a sitting duck to be slaughtered, during cast times! (archeage)
More mobility would be amazing! I like I can move around & aim that beaming skill, for example, that narc showed us. KEEP the BLINK skill PLEASE!!! To me, mobility is important & keeps combat flowing,& feeling very action-packed!
Role playing: I know I not only need to focus on what spell Im casting, and who all Im targeting, but I gotta watch where folks are around me, stay vigilant of those who might close in on me & move! Stay on my feet, as I concentrate on channeling my magic. But oh crap, there's so many mobs! Time to AOE (which means I need one readily available)!!! It's that multi-tasking aspect that makes combat FEEL action-packed, immersive, & realistic (even if magic is fantasy)!
So great job, I love what Im seeing so far. And I just want point #4 to continue being kept in mind going forward!
I am a mage main or cleric main so the skills of the mage is good hehe. The augments of the skills should be by elements like ice, fire, earth, wind, shadow and light. The augmented skills can be altered in the tome and skill tree. Different types of tome may have an effect on increase in elemental attack on a specific element.
Meteors should fall from other places and not repeat the same exact animation over and over again.. kinda looks dumb, but its alpha… that's probably on the todo list.
For the prismatic beam, normally on D&D prismatics are more a status applier than damage, would like to see blind, poison, burn, slow, paralyze.. that type of stuff. The spell would roll a bunch of status and the enemy is left with the ones he failed. The more you stay in one target the more status he would get and more time or refresh the time on the status effects. Would be nice mid siege to blink to a group of ppl, blind them all and blink out, just to give your team the edge.
And please bring back to life a spell like Isaac's greater missile storm from neverwinter nights! There's something special on casting a bunch of random magic missiles to a bunch of targets!
This Mage is very Fun to play for me… 😉
Hey take this port key – It takes you directly into the discord: https://discord.gg/67nwvZZk9z
Also, I've covered the passives in this video here: https://youtu.be/2Gi9_pDcVRc
Idk I feel that the pre-alpha footage of the Mage looked far cooler than the current one.
i love your style of editing so much (3:58 genius btw) but imo your videos will be better without the "What a joker" guy in them. i know its such a small thing and im not sure if other people feel the same way but that bit is becoming way too annoying for me.
7:40 you use it for a second it is normal using it for 2 sec it dose 2xdmg and slows down enemy walking to you also has a different visual and so on… 3x dmg and knock enemy back?!
Make prismatic beam aimable in first person so u can also aim up+down. 😁
I personally am not a tester so take this with a grain of salt: I LOVE giving a class the utility aspect of mana regen. Making it a big reason you would want to bring them to a group. With a short buff duration though, I can see that becoming the only reason a mage is brought where a majority of their rotation is just giving mana to other players in any sort of larger group. Similar to various 'meme specs' in Classic WoW where they were only brought for one specific utility and that player spent the entire time pressing one button.
It looks like they're trying to find a healthy balance for mage's mana in a group setting. I love how their strategy is to increase player interaction. Player interaction outside of random dungeons and raids(mainly wow) has been one of the biggest issues MMO's have been facing over the past years.
srsly who makes combat like that, based on autoattacks?whoever made this combat, lacks talent, sry.were in 2021,so many mmos came and failed, just because of the combat.its the number 1 system to make right, months before alpha.i can see them making the same mistakes
it would be neat if mages had a LOT of spells to choose from, but they can only "prepare" 9 or 10 of them to use during battle
Prismatic Beam 3rd rank should depend on your secondary class… It could heal allies, blind foes, confuse foes, make foes vulnerable, add shields to allies, push back foes, snare them as it does already.
Love the design philosophy behind the mana sharing, really incentives teamwork. Great content mate, keep it coming!
very true indeed, I like variations as well, especially when a class brings something unique to the party… but spells like that (I mean the mana regen buff) shouldn't be abusable so easily, like you mentioned for example… one cleric and 5 mages, this is something any class should be able to do, because it simply breaks the core of the game, it bends the rules… you need to see things from a bigger picture, you get hyped to easily, without considering the total possible impact of an innovation…I'd love to see raid benefits from having 2 or even more mages in the party but it shouldn't be because they want to abuse game mechanics and let one person heal indefinitely so from my pov I'd let have a person only single buff active at the time so, yeah having 5 mages would mean a party have benefited from 5 buffs but not a single person so you'd at least consider switch at least one mage for something else, but I do agree there should be more fun built into it, rank 2 always boost damage is kinda boring, I'd love to be able to have rank 3 but choose not to because rank 2 benefits for my gameplay better
Good one DooD
thanks for the update mate
5:57 Such nice animations!
It feels more like a warlock rather than a mage tbh
Ehh… "Have awesome heals by having 5 people doing NOTHING except feeding mana" sounds pretty shit to me
Love the utility! I've always felt that a mage should be more than just a DPSer and AOEer. To top things off, I'd love if Archmage was given some kind of out of combat utility teleport, like teleport between certain types (or distances) of Nodes, the ability to teleport self and others. I'd LOVE that!
Mage is my second favorite class. Looks good though. Nice video as always.
increasing rank in prismatic beam increases AoE or Range or duration or gives another beam and changes the solo beam in front into a v shape AoE that only does damage at the edges at rank 2 to the rank 2 + 1 aoe typs for rank 3 or the ability to pause and hold for repositioning and the number of times you can do that or the amount of time you can hold increasing for each rank (sry that was a lot more ideas then I thought I would come up with) [just adding for clarification not all of these just one would be fine just throwing ideas at the board]
Ahh, yes! The Mana battery… The dream job of the guy that enjoys acting like he's helping while mostly AFKing.
