Agreed with all your points. The family teleport is definitely a horrible idea, hoping that they scrap that. Also, I am the only one that does not like the fact that there is flying in the game? I feel like being able to fly in my experience has taken away from interacting with other people and allows you to avoid a lot of things and makes the game feel smaller.
Dont like the idea of Family Teleport…but really, calling it 'Pay to win…..stretching it a bit
"falling short" no shit sherlock, only 10% of the game is done and you're playing a network & performance test.
Disagree with you on the first point, to a degree. If you are trying to balance the game to cater to casual players by putting everybody on the same playing field by making gear scaling almost pointless, just make everybody wear the same gear. FFXIV pvp is like that. How liked is the pvp in FFXIV? You should feel powerful if you take the time to put the effort in your character. A person in all blues absolutely should be at a disadvantage to someone in legendary gear. If they are a skilled player, then it should balance out, right?
This gamebis so casual friendly ……. NOT ! 😂
Just want to say I found you recently and appreciate your very astute takes. I'm in my 40's now and a casual player and I agree with both of these. While I understand I will never get the best gear in an mmo again, I still want to feel like I can compete someone who has in PVP, even though I understand I'm at a disadvantage. Gear power creep is a thing and gear should realistically only account for a max of 30% of total character power instead of 300% which it seems like it most MMO's. Also agree with the family teleport even as a casual. The romance of Ashes is experiencing the world, not figuring out the best way to circumvent it.
Uhhhh ohhhh you're criticizing AoC. Whether you have good points or not, this boomer community is gonna fuckn' hate you 😂😂
Legendary gear really seems to be BA DUM TSSS Legendary
Teleports you make a good point about personal teleport spots. That I'm not sure of a fix. As for the group teleport a simple 15 to 30 minute cd foe both players who were involved In teleport would stop mass surprise summoning to a certain area. Unless they have 8 different families and all of them in same node summoning only 1 other person to summon every 15 to 30 minutes. But as for personal teleport options with disposable income I am no sure how to combat that.
Agree with all. I always thought fighting in city nodes was a dumb idea that made no sense. People go to towns to afk and chill and rp. If there were no death penalties I'd understand more, but getting xp debt while afk in town seems to drive the game towards dead city areas where players don't congregate. As a pvp player I don't get it. What is the allure to killing someone who is not in a combat head space who is sorting their inventory at an NPC or storage?
If Intrepid doesn't want griefing to occur and has an anti-griefing stance and policies, then they should do their part and remove game design elements that clearly promote griefing. It's not that hard. I get the IRL risk/reward of killing someone anywhere in the world and the cops/robbers element, but as gamers we all know ppl afk in towns. Not sure what is exciting about killing someone who is afk who is in the restroom and why that would be an interesting design element to promote. Its clearly a frustration mechanic if it persists.
Nailed it man. Good video.
Every point is spot on. I even changed my mind on some of the points because of the well put together explanation. Hopefully Intrepid listens..
Thr teleport idea will be very limited , its because if u play as a dwarf and your friend an elf, youll start at diferrent locations. I think it will be a one time only teleport so you can meet up in the same area, I think your looking into it too much, steven has already said that there will be NO fast travel at all.
100% In regards to dodge, I was shocked to see this in an MMO and it doesn t even work properly.
If they decrease the amount of power gain in each tier of gear, then they would need an equal decrease in the effort needed to be put forth in order to craft said tier of gear because even with full large guilds right now it's insane.
I don't know if this take of yours is fully informed as to what is required to actually craft this gear. I would say, maybe go harvest and gather until you are able to get all of the materials needed and then process it all yourself and then craft even ONE legendary item and then I think you can make a more informed/nuanced take on this.
And yes, I do have the experience which I just mentioned. I am a crafter/gatherer for my guild and have been involved in making legendary items.
The last one, about being safe in cities needs thought. I don't like the idea that you can be 100% PvP one minute and then jump over a line and suddenly you are completely safe, and can store all your ill-gotten gains, that is prone to a lot of abuse. In your own node, obviously your own citizens can't attack you so you are pretty safe, I'm not sure if in foreign cities you can expect that level of safety, certainly not if you potentially have been looting and murdering in those nodes and robbing their caravans. Perhaps this is where node reputation comes in?
Immediately to answer the 1st point, before watching the rest of the video.
They specifically said they want the gear to only account for an x amount of power (around 50% ? afaik). Maybe this is just placeholder stuff for Alpha, but I'd absolutely hate it if gear influenced your power as much as it does currently.
Assuming everyone is on equal level, your build, "horizontal" stats/effects (added x damage type, more dmg when x, etc.), skill, etc. should all account for most of your power, and gear should at most be 50%. If someone is in full blue gear, and is very skilled at the game, they should absolutely be able to beat an unskilled full purple gear person.
Definitely needs looking at, but hopefully it's just placeholder for Alpha.
Even though I think Archeage is the best MMORPG ever ("slightly" biased here, but definitely my favorite one), the gear system absolutely sucked there. You'd get oneshot because someone has much better gear than you, because they can no-life the game, and they're a part of the top guild that gets best drops.
Node city combat is reminding me of High Sec combat in EVE. Even with overpowered guards with fast response times, people will still ambush people who are carrying valuable stuff.
4:42 incorrect. They always planned to have it via the science nodes once they get built up enough, you can teleport using a structure you can make in that node/city type. Also, I think it may be too early to weigh in on fast travel in this game because right now, the game may seem fine without it but I don't know if anybody will still feel that way once the entire world map is implemented. Imagine having to travel for 8 real-world hours to get to your friend on the other side of the world… No one would do that. That would be ridiculous.
its really about guilds farming materials and gearing their players together. Stevens plan is not to give solo players the ability to loot legendary gear solo or in very small groups. (boss gear).
just make family teleport needing lvl 50 character and its account wide, 1 use per 24h
12:40 totally agree with this one. But I think they already had things planned to make cities more "safe" (although maybe not 100% because there are node wars coming too).
I agree with you although did not know about family teleport which honestly should be scrapped as it's against their no fast travel rule they are trying. Most of the rest I think and hope they will fix
