Steven Sharif, Creative Director on @Ashes of Creation , made the decision yesterday to lift the verbal portion of the Alpha 1 NDA. In case anyone missed that announcement, that can be found here https://forums.ashesofcreation.com/discussion/49511/for-the-devs/p1 and https://discord.com/channels/256164085366915072/270797463907074048/843964352045907998
I think it’s really important for everyone to maintain proper expectation management when it comes to the feedback you are going to see content creators putting out. From Steven: It’s important to note, that the Alpha One experience is not meant to be a content test. But rather, standing up core systems in their bare bones state and vetting our technical architectures, while providing the opportunity for us to optimize and squash bugs.

I drank the bottle 🙁
Commenting for better reach.
This game looks like a game from 10 years ago. Combat is bad, Quests + NPC + Environment feels bored. The game looks Archeage with ESO combat.
Great video. Glad that Steven lifted the verbal NDA
Relating to Quests, which is something I used to like back in the day and I don't anymore, I hope they're as good as RuneScape's, maybe with some lore/notable characters if the game design allows it.
Elyon is only a localization beta, not anything technical. I do hope this game progresses a lot by the time it comes out in 2024-2026 but after the repeated failures of MMOs I am very sceptical
relax bro, all thoes cry babies will be back 100% for the true release. i mean were else are they gona go for a triple A mmo ?
The only thing i dont like on this game so far is that weapons disappear when you sheath them in 2021 almost all MMO's have the weapons displayed… then again this is an ALPHA so maybe they will implement it later but this game so far is very good indeed i like that it doesn't hold your hand.
Great video as always Jahlon.
Great Job Mate
I know Combat isn't even close to complete but was the ability to toggle between tab and action present?
💯
I was expecting a little more "play by play" of what you actually did in the test. Where did you go? What did you see? Instead we get a brief overview of a general alpha test.
Where I can appreciate your time and effort in making the video, more details of the experience would have been nice…
I can understand why folks who paid $500 can still be mad about the testing conditions. Some might have bought in just to help contribute what they could to the development efforts. Others might have felt that the people who have to deal with harsh testing conditions should be compensated (since traditionally you'd be paying a QA team to have to deal with it, not people paying to deal with harsh testing conditions).
That said- it would be nice if having more, regular people testing MMO gameplay in early stages (under NDA) was the norm. MMO dev teams can really make use of it throughout development, but I do feel bad for those who weren't ready to be an unpaid QA resource, even with the warnings.
I did find the beer bottle quest and did read the book next to the quest giver. I did not get much time to actually help test as it started at 4am for me and it limited the hours I was able to test. The first day was 6 hours of trying to get past the load screen which in and of its self is helping to test. Second day was able to login with no trouble the servers came down several hours earlier than anticipated and only managed around and one and a half hours play but there was no rubber banding. The third day was terrible for me rubber banding was so bad I eventually gave up. This may be due to playing from Australia with the inherent extra latency. Test times will become more favourable over time so that's a none issue.
There are quite a number of content creators popping up and after watching several of them there seems to be fairly positive feedback thus far. Dropping the verbal NDA was a very smart move gets AOC in the front of peoples minds now it can be talked about in relation to peoples experiences.
IMO it really does need to be hammered into peoples heads that we are testing core bare bones systems and the content we see is only really there to give us something to do while applying pressure to those systems. There however is that element of people who will never understand that fact. I feel they really need to try and get as many people as possible onto discord as the information we get is pretty much up to the minute.
Do you think I can run aoc with I5-7500/1060/16gb/ssd? Tks
with your description about seeing behind the curtain all i could think of is the one scene from Austin powers gold finger i think? the one with mini me.
anyway i love the sound of not all quests being telegraphed the only thing is im not sure about having to talk to say npc a not seeing it then having to go to npc b to then activate a idk maybe it will be good maybe not all i know is they better not do any go to that town 3 hours away then get the option to bring up the poo bandits in yellow spring forest thats 15 mins away from npc a's home town.
Wait for the combat to be finished? What was that whole AoC BR mode for again…?
There's a reason I'm excited but not gonna jump into alpha. It's still very barebones and while many things work as intended it's not a fully fletched game. I wish more gamers would understand that alpha does not mean finished game. It's far from it. I'll be waiting till beta to test and stream it on my channel and looking forward to seeing more from you and maybe working with you and the community to help with finishing touches.
I had fun especially with all of the cleric skills cant wait to test more!
I won't be able to get in until beta but I am happy with what I have see so far! I have been with Intrepid since early 2017 at Settler level! I support this MMORPG 110%! I am glad about the questing system you reported on Paradox! I love to explore & not be hand held! I want a reason to explore a town/city! I love the fact that I can do a quest, then came back & have my actions cause another quest to appear somewhere else! YES, Intrepid needs to take its TIME & NOT rush the game! No more games like what CDPR did! I love the idea of their crafting system, experimentation is fun in MMORPG when we craft things! I am glad for the testing, more of this please! Great Vid as always, Keep up the Great Work! 😉
Building a lot of excitement for Ashes through your you tube videos and lurking on your twitch. Keep up the good work!
"When I want to buy a steak, do I stick my head up a bull ass to ensure that its a good steak? Or do I trust the butcher?" I hope I didn't chop that quote up too much but its not @Jahlon who said this quote.
I hope they re-model the character models entirely (mainly humans, especially human females). The faces are just flat out anatomically incorrect, with the weird bulging cheeks and eyes. The male Humans, and both genders of Elves and Dwarves look pretty good so far tho!
Good and fair video Mr. Jahlon
This leaves me sad in a way, to know that the game is not as forward in development as I thought, however I'm happy they are they taking their time and doing things step by step, making sure the base of the game is solid, instead of just pumping out content that doesn't feel right.
Hi Paradox,
I'm excited to see AoC coming together reasonably positive so far and i appreciate your hard work getting videos out for us. This game Ashes of Creation is going to be massively multiplayer and i think that mmorpg's lost that feeling of exploring and being invested in your characters a long time ago and some of us have lowered our expectations. I look forward to your future videos, if i'm to ask a question, the only question i would ask is, was there anything regarding AoE looting being implemented/tested?
As always thanks for everything you do Jahlon, we as fans are looking forward to AoC and again we appreciate your hard work and dedication <3
I get a hardon when you telling about quests being like this. Click of everything, read everything, quests being like puzzles, you have to walk long distances for a quest and going on adventures… I honestly gonna cry tears of joy if the game is gonna be like this.
3:30 "Questing will be immersive"… What they really ought to say is that for the first time in MMO history, the quests will be quests by definition, rather than chores by a nicer-sounding name.
for someone who is not familarized with a programer or a dev languaje wich were (exactly or at the best you can explain it) the core systems that were under test and how were they working?
glad to here that so far the game feel fine and got that imersive vibe we are all hoping for.
I just hope they cook the steak really well, otherwise I'm not touching that plate
Was the node system in a state where you can atleast see the skeleton of it? Also what was the most enjoyable parts of the test for you?
I drank the bottle in the crypt 🙁
I don't know how many times everyone and even the devs need to tell people this….but the general public really needs to get it drilled into their heads that this is a more traditional Alpha before the NDA fully releases.
Been waiting for this.
really enjoy the way you paint pictures when you're talking about stuff.
Was summoner playable? If so was it good? What was some of the summons. Are they a true dps or utility. Are the summons 100% controllable, or more AI partners. If they weren’t in the game, when will they be?
One thing I'm noticing from content creators is the lack of talk on if and how the Node system worked in the Alpha. Were you able to level nodes? Did they change visually as you leveled? Were you able to de-level a node, did it unlock or restrict content? How did the nodes affect PvP in the Alpha. Was there minmaxing of specific nodes? Are you going to do a separate video on how the nodes worked in the alpha?
Sweet thanks!
I randomly got here from an ashes search, but remember you from the Archage 101 videos. You have lost a lot of weight from then to now! Looking great. 🙂 Hope things are going great for you. Maybe I'll run into you in Ashes. Thanks for your videos.
For a game in development for atleast 4 years, it kinda looks like shit ngl. Looks outdated even for 2017 standards, more so for when this game will release.
Gone stick with New World, if they don't go p2w that is
I am so happy that I subbed to you. This video was the most informative and level headed video on this game I have seen.
Hit every point on the head.
Thanks for all the information.
Keep making the videos 🙂
I bite the cow before it gets slaughtered and rate the steak before I even set a foot inside the restaurant!
I really hope that the combat effects will be reduced / made less flashy (or an option for that). Headaches are inevitable with more than 2 players…
Great video to see, hope all is well <3
Good video.
Thank you for the insight
After New World's switch to p2w, now all hope is on Ashes. I had every intent to play both games at the same time for years to come but unless Amazon pulls a 180, looks like they only want New World to be a short term game everyone plays for 6 months or less and then ditches since anyone with any self respect refuses to use a cash shop to stay current in their MMO of choice.
I saw you or your doppelganger on Shol 🙂 Totally agree with the video. I felt a bit put off with the server rubber banding/performance early on but fingers crossed they fix the issue(s).
If the past decade taught me anything about MMOs, is that you should always lower your expectations to their lowest. Devs and publishers always find a way to upset the vast majority. There's still, to this day, not a single game that appeals to 100% of mmo players, every game has its pros and cons, some more cons than others, and AoC will be no exception. This is a warning to all the people I constantly see getting hyped or hyping others about this game, that's not a healthy attitude to have while waiting any game release nowadays, especially an MMORPG.
