I honestly think Ashes of Creation isn't for the typical FFXIV gamer. FFXIV is a theme park style MMO. You can solo most content and enjoy your time without ever speaking a word to another gamer. Ashes of Creation is aiming to bring back the Social MMO concept. Actual accountability will resonate within guilds, raids, and group content. Imagine: You actually have to talk to other gamers beyond ERP and the "get good's." Jabs at FFXIV aside, I enjoy the content that Yoshi-P brings. Although, Dawntrail could be argue to be a "good" expansion. The MMO genre needs a new coat of paint. Ashes of Creation has a alot going against it, I do hope they bring something that breaks the monotony of Daily Roulettes and dodging degens in Limsa Lominsa. Do yourself a favor and watch the interview between PirateSoftware and Steven Sharif (founder of Intrepid Studios). It is clear that there is a lot of work still to be done.
It might not be a scam but it looks like a game from the early 2000's
It's not a scam, but this game is too old-school for its own good. This would have been the best game ever in 2004, but in 2028 or whenever it comes out it will be just some niche like Eve in best case scenario.
It'll do as good as Lost Ark or New World. Famous for a week then fall into obscurity. No MMO can ever compete with WoW or XIV right now

calling it now: in 20 years we're gonna have a case study in the form of whatever media form we're consuming at the time detailing why ashes of creation was one of the greatest scams and failures in history. maybe coffeezilla will do it

Ashes of Creation will be basically L2+Archeage combined. Both of those games were amazing. Lineage 2 lasted 15 years. It was ruined by P2W and RMT. Archeage was great but the publisher killed it with P2W items that ruined the economy.
The reason people play Lineage 2 & Archeage and why they will play AoC, is because the thrill of earning something when everyone else wants exactly the same thing and not everyone gets what they want, is amazing. The constant anxiety. Can you kill this boss before 30 people show up and gank you? Can you oustrategize a bigger group and beat them? Can you earn a drop that every single player in the server wants?
Nothing in regular MMOs like WoW or FF will EVER beat that feeling. Your highest high in WoW/FF is learning a raid, doing it well and getting a drop. The highest high in Lineage 2 is taking a castle with the boys or getting an Epic world boss drop after hours of PvP, strategy, diplomacy, spying… hours of PvP for a few drops and only one winner. I assure you nothing beats that feeling.
AoC is trying to replicate that.
They Alpha 1 Phase started 3 weeks ago and they've already had massive patches and improvements. The funny running animatiom has been reworked, the movement now feels amazing and they're quickly patching a lot of bugs. Future looks bright! Obviously the game lacks a lot of content, but that will change as we get the other 2 phases. I'm hopeful!
It's not a scam but a money grab. People buying all these Alpha, Beta packs only for the game to fail. Noone wants open world pvp ALL the time
I think a lot of people are saying this game looks lame because they don't know what to equate it to, so they equate it to something that they know, rather than something that's accurate.
This game is EVE, it just fantasy instead of space. A lot of people don't like EVE and that's ok, but the people who do like EVE love this, and the lack of fast travel is in service to what this game is designed around, which is the player guild politics and open world pvp. as an example, ambushing a cart that your rival guild is escorting across the map to transfer resources would be way too easy if you could just keep fast traveling to the nearest fast travel point and throw yourselves at them until you win. it is 100% OK if you don't want/like that, not every game is for everyone.
I also think people don't understand how long it takes to develop an MMO.
brighter shores, the new runescape style game made by the original creator of runescape, took 10 years to develop, and that's a tile based game with, well… runescape graphics.
Its very similar to albion. Nothing for most current players.
Ashes of Creation is everything FFXIV is not, so ffxiv people not liking it is not surprising at all.
You know if LazyPeon is covering it, its gonna be a garbage mmo.

I just think its incredibly overhyped to the point of being part of a cult, because it doesnt look interesting, it doesnt offer anything thats even remotely new.. i just looks.. flat..
My fave stories are failed MMOs and those who buy into them.
A game with open world pvp is doomed to fail because the community cannibalizes itself all the time.
Far too many people will be killed on low level zones by higher level veterans.
People will get tired of it and just quit the game.
Want me to name a few games for you that has the PK system? BDO is now a dead game. L2 is only really played in KR and changed the PK system to be like New World. Albion Online changed the PK system, players can now teleport everywhere and avoid any gankers. WoW vanilla just removed full pvp servers. Archeage is dead.
Forcing pvp on everyone is doomed to fail.
I stopped caring about this game when they said it was forced PvP at every zone. I want to do what I want at any time not when the "group" is all good to go so we can deal with PKs
No one from FF will transit for AoC , they target two different demographics .
With the no fast travel argument, I think ppl will heavily not like it for a slightly different reason. It sucks for the obvious reason, but the more subtle reason is that there will be very limited knowledge about the WHOLE game because one of the main designs is that the world is "evolving" based on who controls the nearby regions.
Long story short: the game will be too complicated for ppl to enjoy without serious investment.

Its a mmo which have pve mix pvp map, this kind of niche model which going to fail hard like the rest of mmo has this system

Mmo or sub base mmo these days must be really hard to make imo, when stuff like Fortnite can have so much contents without you paying anything
