You make very good points. I would just like to add that there is an entire community of MMO players that dislike the solo/easily accessible content. Especially communities outside of the US. I would also like to add that there are players that wouldnt mind the grind since the game has absolutely no p2w.
Remember when you got your first green weapon in WoW? You felt like a god for a short amount of time. That feeling is back, and this game is in a very bare alpha state.
Bringing the MMO back to MMORPG may not be exciting for new MMO players, especially those that love solo content in WoW.
yeah my biggest gripe was the lack of starting ores to craft stuff. however someone said riverlands is for trees and wildlife while the desert is more for ores. also copper is one the right side of the map in the 11 to 14 section
@MetaGoblin In PirateSoftware's interview with Steven Sharif, at the [1 hour, 13 minutes, 40 seconds] mark Steven goes over the design philosophy of Ashes leveling systems. Definitely looking forward to your follow up videos when we go into Phase 2 and whether or not Intrepid hits their goal. Additionally, one of the complaints often heard during the build up for A2 from Steven was that starter zones in other MMO's are often empty wastelands because all the players are in the end game zones. I suspect the resource distribution is designed the way it is in conjunction to your point on "coming back to the starting area after getting some levels". I would say it needs some fine tuning for sure, (I would kill for copper right now) but if the goal is to make the starting zones more viable I'm all for it. Nobody likes jumping into an MMO and being alone. That said, great vid man, not a WoW player but I liked you takes overall.
The economy is a bit messed up, but its aiming to be a bit like eve online, which is a fantastic model, but will need a lot of tweaking/ there are alot of players that really enjoy crafting and this system has the potential too be one of the best they ever played, also crafting is not just for personal gear but also node (the towns) progression, ie buildings and upgrades, which are set by the mayors and contributed to by players.
I enjoyed the slowerr levelling, thrrone and Lib took me 4hrs to get to max lvl, I hate that, actually wish theyd make the lvling in Ashes twice as slow
I personally quit wow because leveling system got haywired over the years , I used to love my characters because I spent the time to level , today as I start working, I have money , I just boost level.. so pls , don’t ever use wow to compare. Today wow still have a lot people playing, most probably like me , can’t find anything better yet. Just praying AOC can bring us back to the old wow adventure/feeling.
It's crazy how something a lot of people love it's the exact same thing that lot of people hate. But I get it. Everyone thinks they know what's good. I like the slower grind, but I'd rather it be super hard to grind the late game.
Hey Meta when you get arround to it can you make a video in support of the rest of us bcus this one is heavily favoring the " please make it easier" crowd. Steven made it clear he is making a game the way HE used to enjoy playing, risk vs reward, EARN yours, the old school way which is also what MANY of us have supported his vision of a game the way he layed it out bcus we also enjoy that style. To take part in Ashes you should already know that from day 1, this game was never intended to be for "everyone". And please dont push for that. There are already games where you port to the dungeon front door leaving the map empty feeling, games with 90 dollar auction houses that go everywhere you go, games with max level boost for a small fee, games with reflective vest yellow icons over the path you "must" take to progress, games with greens rewarded every other quest turn in. Alot of this is exactly what ruined my WOW experience which is why i still hang in there in classic era. Trying to make sonething for " everyone" just ensures it belongs to no one, instead let it be and allow this group to have its home and the rest can try it and go right back to retail where you get everything your advocating for.
I remember when my MMOs had no quest, and killing was how you leveled lol,, and when it took month or so to hit max level, WoW ruined brains of MMO players, and I can't believe its been 20 years of that
you missed the drop down that would allow you to process that higher rarity Zinc. You left it at Common, next time click on the drop down to pick the rarity you wish to process
Hou really harp on about leveling here. I would like to point out that the only content that exist in this testing alpha is leveling. What im saying is: at launch bieng at these lower levels is still apart of the system, stuff like the artisan trees, node citizen ship, and even gear crafting for those levels is apart of the game, not something you try and skip as fast possible like literally every other mmo
Ya slow leveling is going to kill the game for sure. Unless there is some RPG style like FF 14 but if not then people will just quit. Especially if there are 64 specs to play. People will want to explore that and have fun but can’t because of the leveling.
im a pvp gamer. the ashes pvp systems are garbage. first of all corruption, makes pvp extremely boring because you are more worried about hurting your character than you are fighting. 2ndly, steven shariff says he is going to ban anyone who pvps wrong. which makes zero sense how can you pvp wrong in a pvp game, he just wants to ban people for bullshit reasons. so i just call this game a scam at best.
Overall a nice video tho I must say a number of the negatives you mention are a lack of information on your part. Not all but I hope folks take this video with that understanding. AoC is a very complex game.
I can appreciate all the oldheads in the comments talking about how much they love the leveling speed and the crazy crafting stuff and I agree I love it too because im from that era, however this is what kills these games. Wildstar tried this and died, Vanguard tried and died. Infact this game reminds me of Vanguard a LOT, right down to the massive open world with no flying mounts and non-instanced dungeons, great crafting and so on. They couldn't survive because they pushed out casuals (Specially wildstar). It's just the reality of the world we live in now with the MMO scene, it's now filled with people crying about how they "dont have time for these grinds" and want skips or boosts, and the amount of money spent on this its going to need a lot of players to maintain it longterm. Still though I am very much looking forward to the game when it comes out in 2030
Nothin wrong with slow leveling but if it is tedious and a chore to get to max then that’s a problem. If there’s decent content during the leveling process then I wouldn’t mind the slow pace.
Please please don't let them speed up leveling.
I want a modern day take on EQ1. I want leveling to matter and be part of the journey. We have enough speed run to cap MMOs.

Steven has said from 1-50 which will be max cap will take roughly 225 hours. And will look to keep that grind and not change it
yeah my biggest gripe was the lack of starting ores to craft stuff. however someone said riverlands is for trees and wildlife while the desert is more for ores. also copper is one the right side of the map in the 11 to 14 section
I kinda like the slower leveling approach
leveling is part of the experience, if you don't like how long it takes, then the game isn't for you, go play a raid simulator
Looks shit 😂
No handholding, + , slow passed leveling +, grp content, + not wanne cater to wow base, + as old mmo player (since 1998) sounds like music ty my ears.
WoW has indeed warped your peanut perspective.
I agree with the leveling. It can take time but ~80 hours to level 25 while being efficent is not it. It should be ~150 hours to max level
Gear matters more than levels so i dont mind a grind for levels.
the crafting is more on albion style

played solo pretty much the whole time and i am lvl 17 after 3 days

Gen z tik tok addicted gamers gonna hate this game. It's for us gen x'ers that enjoyed games like daoc, asherons call etc.

I wish this game was easier because o suck and I'm used to WoW and want a easy life.
