My thoughts on Asmongold’s first attempt to play Ashes of Creation and what I think needs to change in the future to prevent disasters like this from happening.

The solution is to not stream yourself.
We should not make accomindations because someone wants to show themselves playing a game.
Ashes just isn't a game that's well suited for these large streamers. Forced PvP + Super grindy leveling = bad experience for the streamer and their viewers.
Giving them godmode/dev power of any kind is not a fix, because PvP is the life blood of so many of the games systems, like caravans, nodes, etc. This would result in people getting the wrong idea of what the game is supposed to be, same as Asmon getting killed at spawn in the first place. Steven will be forced to change the design of Ashes if he wants to accommodate Asmon and the anti PvP crowd.
instead of banning the griefers send them to griefer purgatory (straight to jail) and whenever they get hit with the hammer it extends their duration in the pvp purgatory
I mean no offense but does it matter, he plays games for one day and then moves on to the next headline flavor of the month game. I don't get all the attention and effort to get him to play.
PvP is bad, PvP is bad, PvP is bad, nothign good will ever come from that game mode due to humans being assclowns to each other. Any game forcing PvP instantly gets put into the NEVER buy bin.
You are entirely incorrect in asserting this is an Asmongold exclusive issue.
Let me "beat this into your skull". If it can happen to him it can happen to you.
Will it? Maybe, maybe not. But it can due to design. You have to have a consensus on whether or not the ultimate philosophy behind that design is worth it.
You mentioned there is too much friction, cool. That will prevent a lot of this. Banning will too if they actually care to beyond streamers. But regardless of punishment, griefing will happen to Joe shmo too.
Fucking 20 years ago people would grief low level players in Duskwood for hours over multiple days. There was 0 incentive or benefit. 0. But people like that exist to cause harm. Ashes has those players already, and will have even more come eventual launch.
Point is, don't pass off this as an Asmongold issue. It's not
The best solution without altering the integrity of the game would just be to ban griefers. I don't mean 3 day bans. Multiple month bans.
Nothing is stopping random players from getting griefed. I've already seen streamers killing lvl 1s just for fun and it will become a bigger problem once people get more and more bored of Alpha.
Thing is that it can become normal experience for new players.
If you have ever played Classic WoW or Hardcore WoW you know how far people are willing to go to annoy random people.
Pvp based mmorpg die quickly after release or exist as a mediocre game losing money for the developers daily, the video of Asmon getting destroyed made Intrepid lose milions of dollars in the future and will lose even more since the video will continue to be linked to future players that will react by saying " fuck this is bad not playing it "
Because i didn't do that you shouldn't do that ah okay
How about making a server specifically for streamers. I think a lot of players are just annoyed with the entourage of streamers making a server annoying to play on. Might also just be one of the reasons for griefing 😉
Besides very few outliers like Rust, these games will almost always either die out or be niche because there is only one reason people want forced PvP. And that reason is to grief other people.
Replace "Asmongold" with "Marketing".
If you saw an advertisement for a car and in the ad people saw the driver being attacked in the car, you'd probably not associate the car with a "good time".
Steven made his money in real estate, he wants to make a good neighborhood of a game, and some people want a ghetto. It's that simple. They started with safezones the size of Elwynn Forest + Duskwood. They will be expanding it, I have no doubt. It's clear that people are too trash to let have "open pvp" everywhere.
Give pirate software some credit bro, even a hashtag, damn
Use your common sense…is not the basis of a rule. State a damn clearly defined rule Steven. Rules not well understood or evenly applied will damage faith in the community. A tale of two Stevens, Asmon situation vs Thor Situation.
He absolutely wouldn't have banned them if they were killing joschmo, lets be real
Catering to streamers has done nothing good for normal gamers, CoD being the endgame of that route. Also a good game doesn't need streamers to sell it, its normally sub par games or games wanting a quick initial buck that die off quick. Defo no priv for streamers as streaming is a choice.
I sat through this entirity expecting the inevitble satire climax, and after watching it, i am still uncertain wether this was a troll or genuine feedback.
To which I will add, if you did troll, touche you glorious mofo, you got me.
If you are genuinely thinking and advocating for this, I have no hope left for this game, I had a TINY amount but if Steven even implements just 10% of this mindset into the game it is going to be an even harder pass for me.
I do not grief but the last thing people need is palpable aristocracies between studios and streamers exacerbating the perception that players are peasants and streamers are royal folk.
Asmongold has made jokes about, and given past experiences of him griefing and laughing about it, acting like it was "Good Ol' Times", so of course he's going to get briefed, he's made a culture of acceptance. Pirate Software has alway talked trash about griefers and stated how they can ruin a game, so he hardly gets griefed. When he was, his clan put a KOS on the person and then the entire guild they were in. That stopped it as they had to go crying to the devs to get it to stop. If Asmongold's fans had stepped in there wouldn't be an issue.
If Rust has taught me anything, it's that entire clans of people will gather around the starting areas in endgame gear, specifically just to kill fresh-spawns.
Claiming that it won't happen because someone will get banned is laughable, PVP griefers are not the kind of people that care if they get banned or not as long as they get to ruin someone elses experience with the game.
The mornic thing to me is.. if you have to put up all these systems to deter pvp.. because griefers gonna grief.. then why have open pvp? Its just dumb. Like this, AOC will never be popular past its im sure rabid delusional fanbase
And regardless of those of you who say …oh this doesnt happen much.. yeah i dont believe that.
And because of that , where i may have been a would be AOC player.. its gonna be a hard pass.. why fuck with a game that is just frustrating
There is no problem, life and one game doesn't revolve around asmongold.
Streamers are not an asset to a game like this. Devs need to hold onto their vision.. let the streamers go hit npc's in wow pve
You want to be a griefer play Mo2. For every greefer there is a player trying to defend new players. This delivers content.
As development proceeds, pk tweaking will take place. Right now, the cost to participate is too high. Most steamers will have a group around them all the time anyway, so they will have protection as they level.
Teleportation by the player can be abused or done by accident. I do like the idea of a pk toggle mode up to level 40 or so, not to max level. But only for pk, not content. This will also have to include cleric and bard healing of pk players.
The system is working.
REPUTATION MATTERS – as per AoC on the their own forums.
Lets be real the only MMO content asmond can play now is instanced…His fans are his own worst enemy. if he wants to play it its will have to be non livestream. there is nothing he can do other then find out who his actual friends are and be surrounded by body guards in game… Ashes of creation is fine….most streamers were fine…Asmond's fan base are the actual problem here. Steven/intrepid should have known better…Lessons were learned. your god mode sugestions are dumb and yes asmond would probably abuse them
