What is Ashes of Creation?

Ashes of Creation is a unique take on the MMO experience. Our world structure is dynamic and built to react to the actions of our players. Cities will rise and fall, their populations based on the history of the world as the players create it. Quests will unlock as these populations gather, their needs grow, and secrets are unlocked. As the world’s NPC structure is established in real time, players will have the ability to destroy what they’ve created, paving the way for new development, new populations, and real change. Political strife and intrigue will play a very real role in the structure of your world. Gone are the days of static worlds, change is here to stay.

Risk Vs Reward
All across Verra, you have the opportunity to experience massive warfare, participate in epic trade caravans, and gather valuable components to craft exquisite items. Not only will your fellow players be your adversaries; the creatures of the land and the very environment itself will pose a constant and fresh challenge. Will you siege castles to become royalty, defeat other guilds to showcase your prowess, shape the marketplace by being a successful trader, or earn renown by developing your artisan crafting skills? This is your story, you tell us!

  1. Having a good time is always a matter of mindset, regardless of what you're talking about. Some people are going in planning to be unhappy. My only concern is "where the hell is the early email for Nov 8 buyers Steven" 🤣 So many streams to watch this weekend to make me jealous!!

  2. My prediction: First weekend, tons of people come in hyped, quickly get bored and stop playing. By the second or third weekend forward only a small group of dedicated testers is left.

  3. I think at least half my guild understands it's about the testing.
The other half? Meh, likely to bail from the disappointment despite being told their expectations are wrong.
I don't think I'll miss any of them.

  4. This has been my major concern for a while. Coming from a lifetime in software development, as soon as I found out that Intrepid was using Agile I knew that Alpha2 was not going to be the same as any Alpha2 seen before by any gamer. We are not going to be testers so much as "Users". We are not so much testing to find bugs, as we are writing "User stories", which are user experience requirements. They are really about feelings.

So instead of saying – I want a "Looking for group system", we should be saying, "It is taking too long to find people to do group content with", or "I would like to find people to do group content with quicker". Don't suggest solutions, try to ask for thing that will improve your experience.

This is the major role Alpha2 Testers are going to play. Finding bugs is important, but secondary at this point. It may seem unbelievable, given our previous experience in the game industry, that this is what is going on, but this development strategy is supposed to be user-centric, so we really do get a chance to design the game together. Don't complain, make wishes!

The second thing is, that this strategy does take a long time to set up, because you have to make the base engine super flexible, as you have no real idea about the fine details of what the users are going to want. But this is where things (should) start speeding up. They are called "sprints" in the development strategy for a reason. They are notorious for lack of sleep for everyone on the project (including/especially the users), and nervous breakdowns. Talk of the project getting finished by 2029, or the system being broken are not helpful. It should be downhill from now on, and it can be a lot of fun. The positive feedback of watching the game take shape, is more intoxicating than playing a game.

If we get it right, we will get a game that represents our heart's desires, because we are the ones sharing those as templates for the developers/designers, to produce the finished product. The less adversarial our language, and the less negative emotion the better.

  5. Well said. Im sure It's very difficult to seperate the excitement and remembering why we're in there – to help and test the game.

I'm just looking forward to being hit by the riverlands theme!

    Great video 👍

  6. Honestly it wasn't for me, I played about one hour and quitted, I don't think I will play until it's more polished, or might not even play it anymore, for a game that it's been developed for almost 10 years I was expecting a little more, it's an alpha I get it but common… Again, almost 10 years… I'm more excited about Archeage Chronicles and GTA 6 right now, I might play throne and liberty in the meanwhile waiting for those games, I hope I change my mind about ashes since I paid a lot of money to play it but it's unlike
