The Ashes of Creation NDA has finally lifted. After 8 years in development, reception is a bit more mixed than I would have liked. Let’s find out why.

There was speculation that Alpha 2 might be a much older build of the game. Maybe from previous to summer? I dont think We can tell how far along they are based on this alpha. They likely are further along internally and havent shown off what has been completed yet. Im guessing we could see early beta tests start late 2025.
i like how they focus on group content… its what an mmo should be about…. thats whats lacking in alot of mmos now a days everyone wanna solo everything an its kinda boring n ruins the journey… they wanna solo an just focus on the destination, but where is the fun in that
I’m getting EverQuest Landmark and Pantheon vibes…
I'm not sure if you were being genuine or not about the less content part but they said they wanted a pretty focused testing phase. So id think it was limited on purpose, which is why they have phases.
The idea would be if everyone is doing a smaller amount of things, more people will discover bugs and give feed back on those things at the same time, they fix it then move on.
Click bait title
I wonder if they're biting more than they can chew, the scope of the game they want to create seems unfathomably large. I'd rather see a solid foundation with a reasonable map size and the main features like nodes, classes and questing perfected first
100 dollar alpha
Was the slow hoodie drop at the beginning planned?
Just weird how long it’s taking especially with the money and people working on it. So many years in development and still have minimal stuff to show
all ashes taught me is that layman do not understand how video games are developed. systems take up the most amount of dev time, the content made using those systems are just a matter of scale as in you could easily hire contractors to implement most of the content. YOU CANNOT SEE SYSTEMS, all you see is the content based on those systems. There's also some of you implying that Intrepid's internal build of the game is the same as the one the public can access in alpha 2 which is just dumb. We have no idea how far along their internal build is unless they tell us. Open development might've been the best and worst decision they made because on one hand you have promotion and feedback but on the other hand you have anyone with a platform just commenting out of ignorance when they DO NOT NEED TO. You don't have to say anything if you don't know, giving numbers like "2-4 years away" or "20% complete" it's just stupid especially when y'all are not held accountable when you were saying "2-4 years away" 2-4 years ago.
All that aside, congrats on one million subs Force, don't always agree with you but you're easily one of the better content creators in gaming.
I have lost all hope for this game. It's taking too long to develop, and feature creep/development hell is delaying it even further. By the time it releases, it will already be 3-4 years out of date. Stephen says the game is "already funded" but they keep pushing the expensive supporter packs. Despite 8 years of development, this looks like a game that's only been in dev for about 2 years. There's a lot of ambition in the stated goals, but I'm just not seeing the technical development that shows me that these developers are capable of delivering on most of that.
The combat has already had several "revisions" and it still looks more wooden than WoW's combat. The PvP feels REALLY wooden and restrictive and is 99% just a zerg fest of whoever has more people wins. That doesn't bode well for things like node wars where streamers with massive communities will simply dominate entire servers. The focus on PvP worries me, because EVERY PvP-focused MMO dies very quickly. Stephen's favorite game is Lineage 2, and that game was ruined by bots and horrible monetization and PvP griefers pushing the casual players off of servers. The fact is that the vast majority of MMO players do not like PvP, and definitely not FORCED PvP – which is something that will happen if you are even moderately interested in node devlopment/town development because the caravan system is forced PvP.
If this game even makes it to 1.0, it's going to have a serious uphill battle, and there are serious doubts on whether it even gets that far. The VC guys who Stephen got to fund the game are probably starting to push for a return on that money, which is why these expensive keys and supporter packs are being pushed so hard. At some point, those guys are gonna realize that there isn't a giant bag of money waiting for them at the end, and they're gonna pull their money out and go. As I said, I have zero hopium left to drive my interest in the game. They've just shown me too little to keep the hopes up.
Bet you money there's more than 20% done. They are not going to show everything right away. They have very specific goals for each alpha stage. Common sense people.
They spend 8 years on Ashes of Creation selling cosmetics for a game not even released lol
It will be 1-2 years before it will be up 24/7 imo
$120 payta test that is actually an alpha of a fraction of one zone with most of the core mechanics pared-back and that won't even be consistently live?
Yikes… I can understand buying into that if you make content on it or feel really passionately & have the means, but, man, I can't say that is not ringing alarm bells for me. Personally, all of this makes me more suspicious than I already was. Talk is cheap. Maybe all of that pared-back content is just being fine-tuned and almost ready to be deployed, or maybe it doesn't exist at all. If that's the case(the content isn't there, or is in such a rough shape or has fundamental problems that need it to be reworked), where will they get their next influx of cash after people stop buying into the pay to alpha?
WARBORION… = Fighter xD
Also…15 bucks/month? no ty
If you are complaining about time this game is taking thinking of those that had been waiting for pantheon rise of the fallen. Literally 50 yrs waiting and looks like garbage.
I just hope this is not gonna be the Star Citizen of MMO's.
But I guess this happens when you want to create a next big MMO, not just an MMO.
see yall in another 5 years…
Every Unreal 5 MMO looks the exact f*cking same I've noticed…the only reason I can tell you're not playing Throne and Liberty right now is UI.
I never thought I'd see the day where Runescape and WoW were the most visually distinct MMOS…
Here's the thing with solo vs group.
If you can't do very basic things, like leveling, very efficiently as a solo player, your game is going to have HUGE problems.
I'm far from one of those people that wants the entire game to be soloable, but it's incredibly important that something so fundamental to the game, like leveling a character, can be done on a player's own time/pace.
I'm missing something. Can someone explain to me why lifting NDA is a big deal? Seen other creators talk about it but why would anyone care about what happened in Alpha 1?
Throne and liberty combat just ugh.. the system sucks
I want it to succeed but I've allowed myself absolutely 0 hype. Ever since they started work on it they promised so much stuff, too much stuff. There's no way they deliver on all of that with all of it having a decent amount of polish.
Star Citizen player here, welcome in the train of game that are difficult to develop and take years o7 See ya in 4 years for beta
So they want to alienate over half their players by making it group play…pfft. I won't be playing it.
I had the cash so ill play it, but the math just isnt mathing if it took them 8 years to get 20% of a single biome or zone playable than is it s safe to say that it'll take them at least that much time to get the other 18 biomes or zones in playable state im hoping thats not case and that they have more of the world completed or i guess functioning at least and are not comfortable sharing at this time. Regardless if i can get into the alpha ill give it a go .😁
It's still alpha so I will not give up on the solo friendly stuff for now. If I always have to group I'm not gonna enjoy it. Also, I will absolutely not play any game with pvp always on, let pvp be optional. I will at least try grouping, but pvp always on is a hard no.
It will still be in Alpha till May 2025… idk why folks still believe in this game lmao
I have backed this game at a whoping 75$ and I only get access to fucking BETA 2, which means i will probably only get to play the game in 2 Years or something. Scam Is the nicest way to put it. Basically I have already said goodbye to my money. I don't even expect a game anymore I am over it.
Graphics look like it was from 10 years ago
I like the difficulty
Finally, the Hangar Module for Star Citizen version of a fantasy MMO is here.
😂 I am still waiting for Greed Monger.
Rly dont get the hype man. Austhetics are shit (imo) and combat looks meh at best
Sooooo. Black desert with better grafics 😂😂😂 and worse overalls 😅
Ashes of Creation 2034 Pre-Beta Soon™️
There won't ever be a succesfull MMO that doesn't have an already established franchise or is not a continuation of a precious MMo…
Game is bs..
The content amount, should be the same like we got in World of Warcraft Alpha.
Rumor is that they basically restarted development on the game. I would not say that Alpha 2 having less content than Alpha One is not going to be used as evidence against them.
Idk, it just doesn’t feel like it adds up. 7 years for something that’s only called alpha 2? How many alphas will there be? I’m just tired of hearing about the game. I don’t wanna bother with hearing about it anymore unless the next words are a release date and that it’s less than a year away. It’s fine if it takes a while but I’ve long felt that you can absolutely hear about a games development too early.
I feel like alot of developers today are going the "community makes content" route.. its lazy in my opinion its an excuse to not give your game content and keep ur playerbase engaged..
Now i heard even star citizen are going this way its like meh i donnu i havent seen community driven games work since star wars galaxies online and as you all know that failed because of that slacking hands off attitude.
They have 2x third party testing houses and an internal team of QA. The reason they allow people to buy into Alpha is the transparent development. If they opened it to everyone their server costs would bleed them and they'd need a larger staff to support the servers.
