MMORPG Ashes of Creation announced their alpha 2 to be split up in three phases on their roadmap. These phases are very detailed for users to expect content at specific times pending obstacles in development. Though there was a lot of detailed information for each phase, there was a lot of missing information as well, leaving users to wonder if and when some of these features will arrive. Let’s breakdown 25 missing things from the Alpha 2 roadmap.

  1. I don't think the bounty hunter system will amount to much. If they already punish people for going red by dropping gear and mats on death PLUS all the gear degradation and other penalties there will be no pvper's for you to hunt. If there are they will be in crap gear they don't care about and debuffed to the point that they will be dead before you get to them. They could also just have a buddy kill them so they can get their gear back but then there is still the problem of exp loss to deal with.

  2. Only issue with Ashes, which is the same for all games especially MMOs lately, is how long it takes to get them to a reasonably finished state. All game developers do have to do more than 15+ years ago, and other issues like the growing number of patents… idiotic high up managers… etc., and this has turned game development into a slog rather than the smaller intense game development groups we used to have. Sure indie games come along that are great with small teams but projects of this size simply need too many and it is a loadstone. The only hope are AI tools to help speed up some areas of development but they are too early stage now, maybe in 3-4 years.

  3. whoa Nyce, u sure u want to hold a gun to their head like this??

P.S. I appreaciate these videos a lot. Holding Intrepid accountable is the most important thing we can and should be doing. It makes me think that the small community of so called "doomers" arent so crazy <3

  4. Maybe it's because I'm older maybe it's because I'm not as heavily invested in AOC as much as I am looking forward to it. I just don't understand all the hate that intrepid is getting over some changes they made to how they're doing things. You have to keep in mind this is a brand new studio some of these people have lots of experience but Steven made a lot of promises early on maybe naively so he's doing the best he can to honor but at the same time he has to think about what is the best way to present this to the community and the world and maybe some of his earlier promises don't align with what actually turns out to be the best for ashes, the community, and the initial impression that everyone gets. My thought is by the time ashes of creation is released probably in 5 to 10 years if everything works and is as good as AOC has an opportunity to be this will all be forgotten and Steven knows it. I'm looking forward to joining alpha 2 phase 3 next year but will be following along with everybody through the first two phases hoping that things are appropriately functioning for an alpha 2 phase

  5. I know it is difficult to understand for someone who doesn't work in software development, but it really is all to do with the AGILE methodology they are using. The previous design and development strategy was known as a waterfall system. You would do all design, all development, all system testing, all user testing, and then go live.

Under AGILE, you run in cycles design, development, system testing, user testing. The phases come at different times. Instead of Alpha2, representing the end of design and development (under the old waterfall strategy), under AGILE it represents when the basic systems/engine are in place and user features (content) can be added. The selling point of AGILE being that the customer or end-user, is far more involved in the design process, and is better able to determine what to ask for.

So, what you have to understand, is Alpha2 represents the end of testing for some things, and the beginning of the design for others. You cant really compare it to the beginning of Alpha2 for any other game or product. Nor are the "Testers" of Alpha2, really signing up to test. They are signing up as super users, to help design the user experience. It is a considerable privilege and opportunity, that possibly wont come around again in our lifetime.

I really recommend that you read about the AGILE methodology, (descriptions are available online) and try to appreciate the scale of the product and the innovation going into for this truly next generation game, both in terms of its system and in the way it is being delivered. Being a part of that, rather than just a customer, is going to be a very rewarding experience, and I for one am very much looking forward to it.

Talking about missing features is a nonsense, because those features are deliberately missing, and not really designed yet. We (The Alpha2 testers) are going to try out a few different things and let you know what we like best!

  6. Agree i hope they ditch combat pets. Pets create so many problems in other games ive played. Over complicated combat and clutter. Some times causes lag when you have hundreds in frame. They could do something like ESO where the player pet is like a companion when playing solo or to replace a missing person in a group.
