In this video, I share my initial thoughts after experiencing the NDA alpha test of Ashes of Creation and how it might impact the future of Pax Dei. While I can’t dive deep into the specifics due to the NDA, I can tell you that Ashes of Creation is bringing some serious competition. Pax Dei excels in immersion and graphics, but there are areas where it needs to step up if it wants to get to the top of the MMO genre.

This isn’t about bashing Pax Dei—it’s about encouraging the developers to continue innovating and improving so that the game we all love can continue to thrive. Let’s discuss what Pax Dei needs to stay competitive in this ever-changing MMO landscape.

Share your thoughts in the comments—what do you think Pax Dei should focus on to keep up? Your input could make a difference!

  1. I so badly want pax dei to be the game they promised. However, almost 3 months without any real content update of anykind, bad communication on there end and just this feeling of empty promises. Im scared. 60.00 is starting to feel wasted. I hope not. Fingers are still crossed.

  2. In the video playing while you were talking, I saw a woman with a bow shoot a bear. I now have just over 400 hours in Pax Dei. And I would venture to say that shooting a bear with a bow is about as dumb as standing in the middle of the freeway with a red cape and shouting "toro". What does that have to do with Pax Dei you ask? Simple. The game looks beautiful. The building system is clunky at best and you have to spend more of your time getting things "just right" in order to build something. Way more of your time that is necessary. The combat system is minimal. Enough to put the game out, but nowhere near what it could be or even should be. Crafting? Yes, you literally spend hours and hours bringing your crafting skill (pick one, doesn't matter) up, only to find out that the new recipe gives you maybe 2 points more protection, or 2 points more offense. Steel tools break down just as fast as Wrought Iron tools. And don't even get me started on the thousand plus alchemy recipes that became totally irrelevant as I progressed up the chain, although frankly having a healing potion that gives me a temporary 2.8 health per second boost isn't that much of a change from the one that gave me 1.9 health per second. That's where Pax Dei needs to change. Make the higher level items actually mean something.

  3. ashes has been in dev since what 2017? (kickstarter) and they keep releasing new packs for when you buy in, you get x skin set for your stuff. Steven was like.. It wont be a pay to win system.. I don't really trust that. Maybe I don't because he was the largest pay2win guy in archeage.

  5. Ashes of Creation is shaping up to be more akin to a theme park MMO, rather than a sandbox with a player-driven world and economy. This distinction makes me curious about how Ashes will fare in competition with Pax Dei, given their fundamental differences. Despite this, both games might attract players simply seeking the "next big thing" in gaming, where the specific genre is less critical than the game being engaging and enjoyable.

For me, Pax Dei fulfills a niche that other MMOs haven't quite managed to. When I say MMO, I'm specifically looking for that massively multiplayer experience, which differs from games like Valheim. Although Valheim and similar sandbox games share some traits with Pax Dei, they don't offer the same scale of multiplayer interaction that defines an MMO.

  6. I don't see the point in comparing these games. They look nothing alike. I love Pax Dei's vibe and pace, and I knew after a few minutes of gameplay that AoC wasn't my jam. Two games can thrive at their own scale in the MMO world, I don't see why Pax Dei would wan't to compete with AAA MMO. Mainframe is a small team and wants to keep it human and I love that. Their main problem is that they released EA way too early and everyone knows that. Many people stopped playing because there's nothing left to do, my clan included. We just had a glimpse at what this game will be, to me it was like a third alpha. But the real EA will start when the release some content, and I'm excited for that.

That is why we hate to see you become homeless again. If you plan to stick with Pax Dei. You might have to go get a real job. lol

  8. pax has LONG way to go tbh starting with combat currently game is just building simulator and the fact solo player dont even have enough space to build all thee stations is keeping even more players away they should have some kind od system that alows you to eexpand your area based on progression atleast to double size.. i did try it i see the potential but u gotta start with combat its core of any game like this if combat sucks ppl just wont play

  9. Personally I am not interested in Pex Dei at all because honestly it just looks and feels boring. But comparing it to AOC is kinda pointless. Those are two completely different games. And I don't think the question is either or. Also, since both games don't exist yet it's a waste of time. Come back in a few years once both games are finished and released, if that ever happens. And then you can maybe compare.

  10. I've been following AoC for over a year now and I'm waiting for the alpha2 test to start. Pax Dei and AoC are different games, but they also share a large part of the player base. Pax Dei wins in immersion, crafting, and housing. AoC probably wins in everything else. In my opinion, the next few months will decide the future of Pax Dei. If Mainframe doesn't implement a viable combat and trade system this year, it will drop out of the race and end up like MO2, or worse. In addition, in the first half of 2025, before the end of AoC alpha2, changes such as improvements to the building system, the plot and chest permission system, clan management, and refinement of the combat system should be introduced. Intrepid studios will help a little by giving Pax Dei more time, but it won't last forever. The business model of Pax Dei needs to be known ASAP. What the price for the game will be and how many plots will be available to players after the premiere.
