Intrepid can certainly improve some things. This isn’t a dire situation, but I do want to give my thoughts.

  1. I think these are fair criticisms. I agree with the tester issue and also believe phase 3 is the real start of A2. Intrepid could have been more clear. Honestly, glad they're learning these mistakes pre-launch so HOPEFULLY they don't make them post-launch.

Love the team, love your content, and love you β™‘

  2. Well said Ryve. I'm glad you came out with this video. I think you were respectful in how you gave this feedback and I believe many in this community feel this way, but didn't know how to say it. Great video.

  3. Honestly, now I look at ashes as a game that may or may not release. Their terrible communication it making their community question their honesty with every announcement, and the people outside of the community get more and more reasons to think ashes is just a greedy scam.

If ashes fails I think it will be because they keep damaging their reputation in and outside of the community.

They need to come clean and stop all this PR strategy of hiding stuff and pretending this was always the plan, more than fooling people they are making them think of the worst possible scenarios.

Good takes btw, glad to see someone being more critic about the "persistence" thing, not that it matter if it's or not persistent, just that they didn't even bother addressing it.

  4. The alpha phases are a new addition. As we go through the phases, the more persistent the servers will be. The new testers are touted to have missed the packs from the store. However, I have doubts. The price is about right to weed out casual or non-dedicated testers. But I agree, Stephen has been very vague and has used double speak for some time now. He is not as direct as he has been in the past. If you are touting an open development, then the information needs to be open as well.

  5. Good analysis, as usual. This highlights the biggest problem with MMOs, the cost to develop a nearly complete at launch game. I hope that up and coming tools will help lower costs but they are not now, maybe in 2-3 years. At least with Ashes we have a game that is being developed, it isn't a scam. It is a big scope project that is taking a long time and will cost a lot. The downside is that it is a MMO drought, at least of MMOs worth trying.

  6. I agree completely. The current game is clearly entirely new, not an evolution of A1. A1 was a quick and dirty PR pivot from the failure of Apoc As with every human endeavor, money is the 800 pound gorilla in the room. Having spent, according to SS, 90 million, they are without a doubt operating on fumes. To remain independent, Intrepid must generate revenue from AoC's fanbase. Cosmetics sales are certain to return soon. I have a theory that Steven is counting on IntrepidNet to save Intrepid. If they make it work, it has a huge market potential as the only off-the-shelf MMO solution for UE5 and could attract venture capital if Intrepid can prove it in Alpha Two.

  7. To be fair, there were ALOT of people asking for keys that just find out about it…..the keys were a no win situation to begin with. I back way long time ago. I don't care what they sell the keys for. I'm just happy to be along for the ride. Great video.

  8. Hey, first of all, I wanted to say that I really like the video and especially the approach you took. I also think that far too many people take a strong stance either for or against, and then they almost become blind to the facts. That's why I found your video really good on the topic.

However, I do have a comment regarding one of your statements. And please correct me if I'm wrong, but in the video, you say that Intrepid claims they need more testers and that this doesn't make sense because they haven't even invited the testers who already have Alpha 2 access. From that perspective, your statement does make sense. However, if I understood the streams from the Developmer correctly, they had said back then that they were closing Alpha 2 access to ensure they had enough server capacity for everyone. They had already mentioned that more testers would be better, but they weren't sure how much they could handle technically. Now Intrepid Studios is saying that with the server meshing technology, they can technically accommodate significantly more testers, and that's why the A2 sales are reopening.

Please don't get me wrong. This could, of course, all just be marketing, the way they're saying it. But I still thought it was important to mention since it was portrayed differently in your video.

But feel free to correct me here as well, as English isn't my first language. I do speak English, but of course, I can still make mistakes and understand something wrong.

  9. Amazing take on what a lot of us are thinking as well, this doesn't mean that I don't have faith in the project, Steven or the team at Intrepid, but it does call for some clarity on past statements and claims prior to Alpha 2 and this recent AMA. Things are subject to change, we get it, just be open and up front as to why these changes happen and it will build trust within the community. Lately I thank a lot more of us are noticing Content Creators in the Ashes community spout how critical they are of Intrepid all while dancing like monkeys trying to get a Creator spot for Ashes, which is very sad, so I applaud you on your take on this hot topic. Great presentation and fair assessment of what a lot of us are thinking. Still supportive.. not white knighting.. concerned.. not full of doomium. Love your content, thanks Ryve πŸ™‚

  10. Agree with all your points. I've been telling them on the forums that their communication is shit for years now. I hope it gets better, but after all these years my hopes are starting to dwindle.

  11. I think we need to take a deep breath and focus on our lives outside of this game. Patience allows for everything to happen as it happens. The statements made have always been predicated by the caveat that things can and will change. This is a big, hard game to make. There's a lot of immaturity and passion on display in equal measure by AoC enthusiasts. To put it succinctly, let them cook.

  12. I really like that with you I can be in a loop on what is going on within the community! I stopped caring about the game development a little, but your vids are still interesting. Thank you
