What is Ashes of Creation?

Ashes of Creation is a unique take on the MMO experience. Our world structure is dynamic and built to react to the actions of our players. Cities will rise and fall, their populations based on the history of the world as the players create it. Quests will unlock as these populations gather, their needs grow, and secrets are unlocked. As the world’s NPC structure is established in real time, players will have the ability to destroy what they’ve created, paving the way for new development, new populations, and real change. Political strife and intrigue will play a very real role in the structure of your world. Gone are the days of static worlds, change is here to stay.

Risk Vs Reward
All across Verra, you have the opportunity to experience massive warfare, participate in epic trade caravans, and gather valuable components to craft exquisite items. Not only will your fellow players be your adversaries; the creatures of the land and the very environment itself will pose a constant and fresh challenge. Will you siege castles to become royalty, defeat other guilds to showcase your prowess, shape the marketplace by being a successful trader, or earn renown by developing your artisan crafting skills? This is your story, you tell us!

  1. coming from CRPGs and very old MMORPG i puffer games that don't have skill trees My favorite MMO Shadowbane Your went to a trainer to train your weapon, your armor, your class, and your disciplines. has you advance your skill level you would unlock power you can use some of those where just granted other you had to train.

  2. What do you want from the Passive & Ability Talent Trees? Do you think the augment system will be enough in terms of customization for classes? What are some of your favorite talent systems in MMORPGs or games in general? Would love to know your thoughts on this! =)

  3. A lot of terrible armchair quarterback takes on this video. You keep stressing passives.. passives.. on incomplete work in progress placeholder talent trees and try to pass this off as feedback to the Ashes devs of things to avoid. Sorry, you keep saying in your head, you would add this and that all while making way too many assumptions, this just comes off as a sky is falling take and you (who isn't a game dev) know how to fix it.

  4. Sorry, but thinking that there won't be enough ways to customize a character in Ashes is something that I think is so far off base it stretches credibility. One thing has been made very clear by the devs. You will not, in any way, be able to spec all points in a tree.

  5. Omg does this guy work for blizzard? The amount of times he says customization! just be good im not trying to play barbie dress up just if its good ill play it. Let it be its own game if u want your spells to have 600 different looks play a game that showcases that im not mad if it doesnt just be good to play. If you really want customization get rid of talent trees and farm gear sets that do different things.

  6. Great video! I think its going over some people's heads though. Now is the perfect time for feedback on this stuff.

It's not about how to the talent tree looks, its about how it operates. As a healer main, the class customization is key when there is only 1 healing archetype. If every cleric is generally the same then theres no reason to bring a certain class for certain content. Just grab any cleric you can find and hope they arent a trash can. I know they plan to do this, but that doesnt mean we cant give feedback. Its a general concern in the community since we havent seen what augments do yet.

People hear "WoW" and immediately disregard the video. WoW's talent system works for them, but they also have multiple base healing classes to choose from. So even if they are a little lackluster on customization it works because there are 7 different base talent trees. Blizzard does a lot of dumb shit, but they have multiple ways to do each role and it usually feels good to play. Thats why they're still the biggest "MMORPG" if you can even call it that anymore. The MMO part sucks, but the classes are fun to play.

Last epoch did a nice job on their talent system, it was easy to understand the direction you were headed as you were progressing through the spider web of talents.

One last thing, you dont have to be a game dev to give feedback. Theres a reason they ask players for feedback…. We are the one paying money to play the game… 😂 FFS

  7. Wow is a great example of an MMO that balances through using fewer options where one change can drastically alter how a person plays their character. Such small changes can completely ruin that player's fun. Thus, can be a quit moment. Perfect example is when they nerfed DemonHunter's Fel Rush in Legion. I quit playing when they made the class less mobile. It was just one skill and such a change gutted the playstyle Sure the player outrage led to them bringing the playstyle back in the next expansion but I never went back. It was my quit moment. Nope, humans suck at trying to balance pvp and pve. I'd rather have an mmorpg balanced by having thousands of options where even several balance changes won't have such drastic effect on how a person plays their character.
