Ashes Of Creation is without a doubt one of the most highly anticipated upcoming MMOs, on paper the game design seems to be well thought out and interesting, the actual gameplay is starting to look pretty good and most importantly the game won’t be pay to win or pay for convenience.
That being said there is one major thing that concerns me with Ashes, something I don’t see many people talk about, which if left unchecked could ruin the endgame, the sense of progression and the economy.
do you share my concerns about the potential RMT has to ruin Ashes Of Creation’s economy as well as it’s appeal as a “non p2w MMO?” what other examples of MMOs can you think of that would either not punish or only give gold buyers a slap on the wrist? let me know in the comments below!

Combat looks outdated and garbage. Most things can be forgiven if the gameplay is good. The gameplay does not look good.
4:04 LITTLE MAN OFC
Was making some mhsic, and seen the notification for your video. Im jyoed for Ashes of creation, but i dont have much time to play MMOs anymore. The more "hardcore " a gane is, the least likely i am to play it nowadays. Still love watching your content though.
This game is doomed to fail, the sole focus of the game is what has ruined multiple MMOs already, player controlled economy will sprout massive guilds with botting and subsequently gate keep players from content.
I can not wait for Ashes of Creation comes out in 2056!
Like 690. noice xP
right… see you in the game 2028
permaban for buying is kinda corny lmao
5:18 That's literally not what that shoplifting thing says, that's just tiltle clickbait plus propaganda. Even in the article on screen you can see it's just it wouldn't be a felony and instead a misdemeanor with the potential of a year in jail.
Also resource bots like in archeage unchained, made things cheap early on but made mining for example useless to spend energy on
They need to remove all sense of a cash shop. Just make the game. It goes completely against their philosophy of making an old school MMO. Which is just insane to me. Their whole selling point is being old school. But here's a cash shop that ruins the part of an MMO that everyone loves. Making your character look cool.
Shoplifting under 1000$ in NYC is still a crime and you can still go to jail for up to a year. If you were starving in NYC it is doubtful that the crime being a felony vs a misdemeanor would change your mind about stealing.

Games never coming out
Very happy to hear you're a libertarian ♥️
My biggest concern is that I have heard of it for years, and still no game. I believe it when it releases.
Great video!!
Everyone. Share. This. Now.
If someone is caught selling gold make sure to pass their information over to the tax authorities, because this income might not have been registered with that person's income taxes.
The systems are my biggest concerns everything needs to work or nothing will work it seems. So they should be testing that very heavily in the alpha 2. Forget biomes that's easy to draw up with the team they got, we need everything from the smallest stuff to the biggest world creating stuff it all needs to be symbolic or it wont work.
RMT can help gamers with no job around the globe in poor countries. in Albion I had many guild partners that were doing RMT for food and medicine. if some rich kid or person who doesn't want the grind and needs some shit done why not allow and regulate it?
Combat still looks like shit, gear will matter more then skill
So if they did this then couldn't I just get someone perma-banned by buying gold and having it shipped to their character?
Steven has addressed this in previous live streams:
“It's important to note that there is a sanctity that must be protected within the game from RMTing; and let me just go into a little diatribe about this: But in games that I've played where the company or the publisher does not enforce rules, it becomes the standard that you buy gold if you want to be competitive. If you want to compete at the top tier levels in certain games, and everyone's buying gold, you almost either have to buy the gold or you're just not going to be able to compete with those people and that's a really shitty feeling to have. Excuse my French, I apologize. That is sucky; and in order for that not to be the case it is the responsibility of the publisher or the developers both to make sure that we have stringent practices from a CS- from a customer customer service perspective- to enforce our rules and to make sure that players are aware if they partake in this there is a huge risk in doing so. It's not going to be a slap on the hand. It's not going to be a "we told you once, we told you twice, we told you three, four, five six times okay. We're just taking some gold away", that thing. We have got to ensure that it is feared to do those things because that ashes has active GMs, it has active customer service, it has an active community team.”
Why not have a 1 week wait period before you can trade gold to friends > a low limit. So say 10g you can do a day (to help people start or smt), but >10g a day is only unlocked if your friends with that person for longer then a week. It doesn't completely stop gold sellers but it makes the process really annoying, also because you have to create a ''record'' of befriending someone that is selling gold, which makes it easier for devs to track. If I knew that log of me friending someone that sells gold is in my account forever, why would I risk that? If they get banned a year later then my account is at risk too.
Very good take on addiction Craig, couldn't agree more
I agree part of what I really enjoy about the start of an MMO is when I loot something amazing and get that hit of dopamine when i can sell it at a high price because its rare, or feeling like my gathering has worth, one of the biggist hits I got when going back to wow was how bad it felt to gather things same with GW2 I want to feel like I can make gold doing gathering without the market being flooded by bots hammering the economy so that progression is easer if you pay for gold
Peon why did you never do a video about Pax Dei’s early access? Seems like one of the more prominent MMOs this year and with quite a polarizing reception
It's essentially gold buyers within the community who ruin MMO economies
Liar. In most modern mmos they found the formula to evict gold sellers. They directly sell gold or progression themselves in the shop 😂
It’s a bell curve. It should be obvious to the dev’s how much gold per hour the average player can earn by playing the game. Some will have no clue. Some will focus and become rich. This will change once markets mature, players get familiar with the game and market value is established. Game design should be focused on brining the “no clue” players to a minimum gold earning potential so they don’t quit the game.
Then just cap how much gold an account can receive by “gifting” from other players per week. Machine learning can then seek out odd trading patterns (i.e. someone selling 10 legendary items that they didn’t craft or have yesterday). Ban those guys but have an appeal process (requires a GM of sorts) Close the exploit.
Yes, gold traders can use AI tools to make smarter bots, but so can the dev’s……
Ashes isn't controller friendly or console supported. Im already looking pass this game
My biggest concern? Ill be unalive at release date.
Im so tired of hearing cries of P2W. Its not that big of a deal for majority of players. This argument is echoes of a loud majority who have large content creators on their side.
My biggest concern is if it's actually getting finished and released lol
You should not talk about mmos
My biggest concern is being able to play it before I die.
everyone should perma ban these loosers anyway if they dont the servers will be fucked big time. they will the number one target for bots and gold farmers as soon as they will release
Unpopular opinion here: I don't think RMT is a bad thing.
If you are hard farming the game you are going to have an advantage, but if instead you sell that advantage to someone else it's not like the economy or the balance of the game gets broken because you're making gold appear from thin air (like from cash shops).
I understand that it feels unfair if someone does not farm their own stuff but the thing is someone else did farm it, they put in the hours and should be able to do whatever they like with it.
It also gets more people into the game, not everyone have the time needed to be competitive.
It also gives you a way out when you feel that you have put too many hours and dollars (as in cosmetics or subscriptions or whatever ) into the game to quit, at least you have the option of selling everything and get on with your life.
I would not buy gold but I if I did honestly I'd rather give my money to another player than to the company selling in the cash shop.
PS. Engrish not first language, sorry if mistakes
completely agree bro. anyone directly breaking these rules should just be perma banned, cut out the bullshit and then hire some people to respond to anyone that puts in the effort to provide evidence that they didnt do it.
My biggest concern is all the people now saying its full PVP. Full nonconsensual PVP will destroy this game.
Albion permabans for rmt
DONT TRUST THIS GAME… TO MUCH BS COSMETICS FOR PRE SALE… GAME AINT EVEN DONE AND THEY HAVE TONS OF COSMETICS FOR SALE… CANT TRUST COMPANIES THAT PULL THIS SH!T EVER … THIS WILL BE ANOTHER STAR CITIZEN… A GAME FOR SUCKERS
No. Let me tell you why this wont hold. YOU. the player base. if player A can play 6 hours a day, and player B can only play 2 hours a day, then 2 weeks later player B is excluded from PVP raids, guild activities in favor of player A. so player B is FORCED to buy gold to catch up, or jerk off alone.
Duping is my main concern. I watched half a server quit within days over duping on New World.
Id be more worried that kickstarter MMORPGs have a 99% fail rate of either never being fully released or just being the biggest pile of trash, before worrying about how they make money off it.
Two markets. One for small trades, low value and/or amounts for the normal player. It would make it less convenient for the RMTers . One market for the big exchanges which is strictly surveillanced by bots, scripts or gms which connects logic. For an example a low lvl 10 exchanging large amounts of ingame currency to another player for no apparent reason. It would flag the low lvl and their IP for an example.
