Excellent video. All of this needs to be said as often as possible. But, even so, I picture 90% of the hype overdosed recent fans sticking their fingers in their ears and refusing to listen.
I just want some solid milestones during Alpha 2. I'm sure the game will eventually get stale, so we'll need updates to keep that engagement.
So if this is Alpha 2 in Q4 of 2024 is guess that we have 2-3 years of Betas after this And then launch in 2027 or 2028…
Over a decade in 'open' development. I hope the game is a smash hit but good grief it has taken a long, long time…
"dont take off work just so you can play an Alpha" jokes on you, Ritchie, I'm gonna be working and gaming at the same time 😛 Can't wait to see everybody during the testing. I can expect the A2 to last at least 6 months to 1 year. They probably want to take the feedback, change some things and then see if it works with the A2 players. We shall see, I do plan on doing some streaming once A2 hits, join us in Genesis, we have a lot of players asking questions, participating, socializing, and eager to jump into Alpha 2 and Ashes of Creation.

Based on what we have seen so far, i expect all the other Archetypes completely outclass the Tank in PVP. Even when the Tank is supposed to have an advantage against all DPS classes
in the rock-paper-scissors balance system. Tank>DPS>Healer>Tank. The Tank showcase was so underwhelming compared to all the other classes, doubly so when it comes to PVP.

Paying to alpha test a game is very wrong, in my opinion. Either you release a specific amount of keys to the public and content creators or you test them among your own team. But charging $500 for a test key for a game that has already been crowdfunded? I think it's very dishonest.

If things are missing from Alpha2, they should be fairly trivial to add, by definition. Alpha2 is the functional test not the content test. So for example with biomes. They have completed all the functionality of a biome. They have also completed all the content, for say 1 or 2 biomes, so that they can test that functionality. As the content is configured to the biomes functionality, NOT creating all the content for the other biomes, saves time redoing the content, if there is an error in functionality discovered during the test. That is why you test the functionality before you do ALL the content. This is the purpose of the Alpha 2 test, to green light full content development, that will be tested in the Beta1 test.
However, creating content when you have templates from the content created (say in the test Riverlands biome) is many, many times easier and faster than creating the first one. The same holds true with all the missing content: classes, story arcs, races, crafting professions, raids, augments, nodes and so on.
This is why I keep saying development will speed up. Creating the content for 7 biomes after the first is tested in Alpha1, is not going to take anywhere near the time it took to create the functionality and content for the first biome, particularly in a data driven game like this, as opposed to a theme-park MMO, where most of the content is unique or bespoke.
you are so right that people really need to manage their expectations. with any game especially mmos the alpha is used to stress test systems its not a demo of a full game its a way of smashing bugs and stress testing game engines, server stability and game mechanics while also showcasing the work that they have been doing on the game.

NDA drop was needed because with a 100,000 alpha tester base videos would be leaked that is just a fact even Sc with it's tight lipped Evocati still see leaks, it is better to have streamers playing it to explain to people that it is an alpha.
Unfortunately it's impossible to keep the hype low when you've spent $350 5 years ago. They can't really ask for low expectations from backers. People have waited nesrly a decade. They can't be asked to remain chill and not care about Alpha 2. If A2 sucks on release a lot of people will feel ripped off and again after a decade… They should feel ripped off.
Keeping expectations low no matter what is such a terrible take. This is a big development team, that had years to release this A2, which they said they would only do when the time was right. So from their own words, if its being released it should be up to par. They also took millions of dollars in alpha pack money, you bet your ass i'm going to have expectations.
