  1. I'm pretty sure developers can reserve, change, own any name they want at any time. Oh you stole Steven's name before he got on there? Ooops. So sorry your account bugged and your character was accidentally deleted. It's totally unrelated we swear 🙂

  2. Great topic! I'm sure GMs will have a special tag that is only allowed for Intrepid employees. The real question, I think, is their personal accounts. I'm certain there will be many employees with personal, non-GM accounts throughout the company's structure, not just game devs. Should those people be allowed to reserve their names? If an HR employee or new intern wants to have a very popular name like Ash or King or Sephiroth (wayyyy to many Sephiroths out there), should they be able to pre-reserve? Even ahead of those who paid for the privilege?

If so, does that extend to Friends/Family? Can employees get more than 1 name reservation? Can employees pass on their name reservation to a friend? A Guild Member? The problem with a community-based game like Ashes of Creation is that the proximity and friendliness of Steven can lead to seemingly nondescript things like an employee asking thinking it's not a big deal to reserve a name, then delete it later to give to a friend (still only 1 name reservation per employee), only for that friend to be a guild leader who doesn't have the name reservation perk, and someone who paid for that privilege not being able to get that same name. Is that a fair outcome? How do you avoid that scenario? Are employees not allowed to delete their characters at all? Are they not allowed to have friends?

There are a lot of positives with Steven being so community-oriented. But I can foresee a few problems coming up where people take advantage of his nature for personal benefit. This a reoccurring motif that many Community Managers have had to face and many have succumb to, with Content Creators or Community Figures being their "friend" just for the ability to have access to things that many others don't.

My personal thoughts are that employees should all be able to reserve a single name, even before those who paid for it (outside of GM names which will be unique anyways due to the GM tag). But that should be the extent of the privilege. After that, they should only be able to create another name on launch like everyone else, unless they also purchased the pack with the perk. If they want to give up their character at a later date and free the name for another user, I think that should not be allowed, only due to the fact that there doesn't need to be any unnecessary "drama" that could come out before launch. A name, no matter how much a user feels strongly about it, is something insignificant to the game. But nepotism, and GM influence, will haunt a games reputation for a long time.

Thanks for the very nicely edited clips! Very easy to have conversation around a specific topic and share with others this way!
