A lot of people seem to think Ashes of Creation will be a NICHE MMO. I tend to think that is not a foregone conclusion, and this MMO could be bigger than most think!

To me, Ashes of Creation is a Multi-Niche game. Lots of different kinds of players.
EDIT: Let's hear it for Big Wheel!
Niche or not PvP centric games do not have a lot of competition.
Nich haaa
The second pronunciation was correct. Lol good video though!
It depends upon whether or not they get the game out before all the boomers die. j/k, but not.
If executed correctly, with the involvement of MMORPG players who grasp the evident reasons behind MMORPG failures, it can succeed. Games like Lost Ark and New World displayed significant issues, which were painfully apparent, I regret to admit. Ashes of Creation has the potential to address these issues and sustain a large player base successfully. For instance, by avoiding dry content in the late game and ensuring fulfilling questing experiences, the player base can immerse themselves in lore, gameplay, and meaningful interactions with others, without feeling punished for playing together as many MMORPGs tend to do in the late stages. Like NW has still no Ship and Cargo runs where are the Ship figths u still have no swimming like come on bro u can yapp about it for hrs.
Niche will be the new popular
i dont think game will take more than 3 years to fully release.. and lets hope not everything will be available during alpha 2 it might be really damaging for full release.. but i think that player that dont want any pvp will suffer since all raids and stuff will be openworld. we can only hope for the best
4 to 5 year alpha is a crazy statement. Id give it one year tops
If alpha 2- beta 1- beta 2 lasts longer than 2 years game is gonna die. They need to polish the game asap and release it to the people who are not willing to preorder a game for 250$. Because those fanatics that did so are not gonna form a healthy community.
Good stuff
Its not niche at all. There is just millions and millions of us folk who love and loved MMO's sitting back waiting for something wicked to arrive haha. Just look at when WoW classic happened. So many of us all came out of the woodwork and smashed that until the end of Naxx and then when tbc came out it slowly tapered off. just between ff14 and WoW alone is a big active community chillin/waiting that will defo give AoC a try when it comes out
If the alpha/betas go for to long that could also kill the game. Sure new players will join after launch, especially if streamers/youtubers can keep the hype. But if the core community is playing their characters for several years few are going to want to start completely fresh unless they lock out enough content/continents that alpha/beta players get to play the game without a "been there, seen that, did that already" mentality
Thx for the vid!
I bet Ashes gonna reinvent that sponsor
The correct way to pronounce niche is F#ck off
Only thing I wish AoC had when in comes to player classes is the DRUID.
I am outraged when you say niche when it's actually pronounced niche. I totally agree that the A2 will last a minimum of 3 years. Too many features yet to be seen and too much land mass to fill up. Naval content is a full game in and of itself. My guess is that we well see well north of 200K at launch, and close to 50K long term. 50K is plenty for any sort of testing that needs to be done. My current major concern is the current server architecture is unstable and can't handle thousands of players. In the Caravan stream, having all the participants use an instanced model for their class is a glaring red flag for me. I won't mind being wrong, but I suspect that launch will be pushed back to 2025.

One huge factor is going to be the price of PC gaming at launch.
PC gaming is currently in the worst state that it has ever been, and so far it seems it is only going to get worse in the near future.
Ashes is going to require a very beefy PC to run it smoothly, and a lot of gamers like myself are choosing consoles over PC, because 2000 dollars for a graphics card is just ridiculous.
Intrepid should definitely consider adding consoles to their launch if they hope to retain a large player base.
I fucking love wheels
It is for tab target players
Anything less than 17 years for Alpha 2 is pure cope.
THE WHEEL!
this game will have literally most content that exists in any mmo (atleast on paper so far) how can it even be an niche game. Just because it has a mechanic some people dont like doesnt mean they wont play it for all the other content. People who say that it is a niche mmo are complete trolls.
Well it is Niche in the fact that it only PvP so, you are already starting out in a niche market.
That is the one reason I will never play it, just not into PvP.
I do however wish the game success because it looks awesome.
I am always hopeful that someday Steven will allow PvP/PvE flagging and I will be able to play it but until then I will just watch from the nose bleed section 🙂
World of Warcraft which arguably was a niche game as you had to be someone who was willing to devote all your time and effort into that game specifically which will be a similar thing for ashes what is Anish game even if it did hit 12 million players at one point. Mind you that the total world population is around 8 billion now and on top of that, a lot more people are playing video games than they were in past so MMORPGs are still a niche experience and especially a real one that actually both values your time and requires that time investment is especially going to be like that. Beyond that how many of those millions of players are people who wouldn't be interested in ashes on release but don't realize that yet because they haven't looked into what ashes will be like enough and have only heard the surface level
I would argue that a long alpha cycle (wheel) is potential reason for failure.
The core audience experiences everything ashes has to offer before its even out and the rest just move on/get frustrated they have no access.
Also, imo its not the pvp in of itself that makes the game niche but rather the fact that casuals and non competitive players may be "gatekept" out of the fun content.
According to my admittedly inaccurate calculations, John and Steven should recoup their investment if they have 1 million subs for 10 months. That does not include pre-orders.
Which is one reason I have a copium sub for this game. It is their money on the line, and if they make a great game, they'll retire.
Bro, i played this game at PaX Prime in 2017.
How did you still fuck up pronouncing niche
i played albion online, i still do actively. i know a niche mmo when i see one. just because it has a few very watered down aspects of more "risk v reward" games like albion online does not make it something only 2% of mmo players will enjoy.
they dont have 4 or 5 years, dont release it soon its dead
ooh ooh, you forgot the most common thing, the thing that makes wow suck currently. X posted a guide on all the bis gear, and talents, and spec, use it or no raid spot 4 u. Everyone has to have rocket boots or you lose your raid spot. The gatekeeping inside the community instead of just having fun exploring the world, trying new builds and specs and figuring out fun new things, instead of running to quest guides/ class guides/ spec guides, and telling people they must follow cookie cutter thing or they are wasting your time.
it will be niche and will have the same fate as wild star, boring, can be played only as group, mmorpg
IMO, ashes is a collection of niches, PVX, unrestricted OW PVP, old-school, sandpark… there are many niches that would normally drive players away, but ashes also has a lot of interesting systems. So the question is if this conglomeration of niches will be carried by its systems, attracting a generic audience to have a playerbase in the millions, or million at least.
The biggest problem with just looking at the boards because there are always going to be highly vocal people usually want something that makes their class the best or a type of play that most players don’t want or like. Killing endgame content by breaking the player base up.
