Many think MMOs are pure fantasy. Ashes are going for a more realistic style without being picture-perfect. And we have only seen a couple of races and a few biomes. I think the art is on point with their goals.
anyone, even if they have tens of thousands of followers, is WRONG if they think AoC needs to have its' own special recognizable art style. PERIOD.
