  1. No one is mentioning a big feature that is very relevant to this topic and that is inventory space. If you are on your way to do a 5-man dungeon you will not be attacking caravans on the way.
Everyone is looking at the caravans like they drop gold you can just instantly pocket, that is not the case. You won't be looting 500x bundles of firewood when you are about to enter a dungeon.

  2. Every mmo with pvp has people who complain about zergs. Is 10 on 5 a zerg? Is 20 on 10 a zerg? Is 5 on 2 a zerg. The reality is war is not about fair it is about advantage. Do what is necessary to kill more than you lose. So 400 on 200 is war. Having three on three is arena.

Small guilds will need to develop strategies that allow them to have situational numbers advantages. Twenty man war band rips through enemy foragers and exp groups. When the enemy rallies a bigger force the warband leaves the area is an example of a strategy.

The best war leaders are not the best pvp players. Strategy, tactics and technique are all very different. A very large guild with savvy strategists will steam role their area. The ingame equivalent of the Roman and Mongol empires. They both had superior war leadership and battle tactics over their contemporary enimies.

You got beat by a "zerg"? That was your fault. Use some good strategy and tactics next time. You want "fair"? Go fight in an arena battle.

In a mmo pvp game, the first thing a player has to learn is how to handle losing. You will lose a lot. Get over it. Over time you will learn how to win. If you just bitch about getting zerged every time you lose, you are in for a very unpleasant experience.

  3. I like the point on caravan's being important. That fact that crafting, gathering , materials are going to be the lifeline of this game, i willing to bet crafters, gatherers, and the like, will be investing in making sure the merchandise makes it to it's destination. Especially if an entire community is waiting for those resources, like fighter's wait for crafted gear, Guilds will need their people geared to complete the elite content. i think this is gonna be a "serious" mmo, where continents will work together to create a market. No caravan's, no one gets paid!!

  4. "Caravans always being attacked, and caravans being guild content only are dumb takes." ->

Proceeds to explain that a 75% fail rate is acceptable, and caravans should be run and filled with ~10 ppl. lol

To offer a little clarification, Liniker was being dishonest in his post, one of the ppl he’s calling out is Narc, who played AA for 500h during one of their high population times on a fresh server. Caravans in AA were basically mandatory, guilds and pirates loved them; pugs, small groups and solos didn’t.

Silk road was focused on this aspect, it was a different beast, and ravendawn’s caravans are subject to the game’s version of corruption.

On the other hand, Liniker is way too biased, you can see in Narc’s discord logs that one of his guild’s main focus will be mercenary services, he wants caravans to be a high risk content with basically no attacker risk.

The whole topic is not about risk being too much or too little, but about what the content gating is. As it stands it will be only possible for medium/big organized groups, aka guilds, if that’s what the playerbase wants fine, but keep in mind that the game is already heavy in guild content, and guild commerce already exists in the open seas.

Now stop pulling me to this topic I'm fkn tired XD

  5. Risk vs Reward system makes a potential range of player's emotional oscillations significantly wider. In simple words, it can vary, for example, from -2 to +2 in some "everyone is a winner game". In games like Ashes of Creation, this is not gonna be from -2 to +2, it will be from -10 to +10. Taking that risk, delivering the caravan and making a huge profit would feel amazing. Farming for 3 days and getting your caravan raided would feel awful. And some players are simply not used to that or just don't have a high enough level of stress resistance.

P.S. Not sure how many people understood a poker reference around minute 41, but it makes A PERFECT sense. There is a similar logic behind launching caravans as there is in bankroll management in poker.

  6. Hey regarding e-sports, we have wheels in the game, we have animal husbandry, how the hell aren't we getting Chariot races at the Circus Maxima in the metros? (after launch of course) Animals bred for the purpose via animal husbandry, chariot crafting sinks, 2 players per chariot – a driver and defender, gambling, pompa circensis to the goddess Norlan before the race etc. Have a chariot leader boards with coloured teams etc Red should be Empryean. Then we can have the obligatory town riots afterwards 😁

  7. Have it somewhat like Hunger Games and a different map that everyone goes to and it teleported to with a cylinder around them so they cant look out then when everyone is ported in at a time limit (meaning if you have slow internet you dont get in) then the cylinder disappears and everyone goes at it. Or you can watch some older GW1 PvP and they had it going on with all kinds of battles you could do in PvP, and people could watch fights that where not in the fights. It was cool as hell

  8. I think that once they get the classes balanced, I guess they could come out with Prestige Classes that could be added on with extra abilities they could do. Like a rogue/rogue or a rogue/mage could be a shadow walker prestige class. rogue/cleric could have bane assassin. Fighter/mage Magesword. Fighter/bard Sworddancer.

  9. I think that when carvans get robbed that the prices in towns need to go up or things that are being sold in that town or city are no longer there to be sold even by NPC. I mean look at it this way if Walmart is sending a truck to your city with goods to put on the shelfs and they are being robbed then you have nothing on the selves for Walmart to sell to that town or city. So yeah that would be cool as towns would not be able to build some things as the carvans are getting robbed or because the town has no goods coming in then people move out of the town or city.
