Ashes of Creation: Caravan PvP Mechanics and Proposed Additions

In this dev stream discussion, Jamie Kaos offers his opinion on the caravan PvP mechanics in Ashes of Creation, commenting on the balance of risks and rewards for attackers and defenders. The topic of PvE versus PvP gameplay is explored, with the speaker cautioning against catering too much towards PvE at the expense of the game’s PvP elements.

Jamie then references Red Dead Online’s trade runs and bounty systems and suggests similar features could enhance Ashes of Creation’s caravan mechanics.

What is Ashes of Creation? Ashes of Creation is a unique take on the MMO experience. Our world structure is dynamic and built to react to the actions of our players. Cities will rise and fall, their populations based on the history of the world as the players create it. Quests will unlock as these populations gather, their needs grow, and secrets are unlocked. As the world’s NPC structure is established in real time, players will have the ability to destroy what they’ve created, paving the way for new development, new populations, and real change. Political strife and intrigue will play a very real role in the structure of your world.

  1. I can see your point, however that us small scale. At worst, you can be 3v5, but in Ashes, it might be a gankfest. I would like to limit the actual number to 20 members per side. I would also like to see a Driver Skill added, which can be used at check points, and you will have some idea (depending on the skill) of a successful run.

  2. So I fully agree with expanding on the bounty hunter system, but I also think the system shouldn't tied only to the Military nodes. The bounty hunter system should be an every node thing if not a building type you construct in your node.

  4. No pve servers. However, wanting there to be an equivalent risk is fair. Peoples problem with it really stems from thinking there will be constant attacks on caravans, likely heavily outnumbering the defenders. Since theres no risk of material loss to the attacker. And we cant say it wont be like this till we can see the system in full context. Travelling between nodes, having neighbors actively incentivised to watch out for you etc.
