  1. Casuals and Community are almost synonymous in an MMO. Without casuals, you dont have a community. An MMO with tryhards is almost a different game altogether. Personally, I'm aiming to be around maybe 4 hours a day if I can and heavier on the weekends. So I have no clue where that falls on the scale. Lol.

  2. Good analysis. I don't recall anyone else addressing this. My current plan is to no-life A2 until it becomes boring and then only play casually (2-3 hours, most days). If I can't make good progress and/or succeed, I'll just watch other people play 😀

  3. Most MMORPG players are some form of Casual player:
    Casual Time/Casual Challenge
    Hardcore Time/Casual Challenge
    Casual Time/Hardcore Challenge
    Hardcore Time/Hardcore Challenge

Even a Casual Time/Casual Challenge player could be the Mayor of a Node.
You can find a "community" just by being active as a Citizen of your Node without belonging to a Guild.
Helping a Node progress whenever you're online can be more important than reaching max Adventurer Level.

Casual players will not have a difficult time playing Ashes of Creation.

  4. Playing the game is one thing. Making your mark is something else entirely. Sure, as a casual, you can do things for your giild but don't expect to influence the storyline in a major way. Just accept your casual status and learn to work within it.

  5. Based comment for a based video.

Tired of hearing all the "hardcore" only talk. History and stats show us these kinds of games dont survive by the hardcore. The live and die by fostering a broad community. Mmos need us all, from sweaty try hards to super casuals.

    Nice vid Xillin.

  6. The problem is when casuals start to complain about the game systems been non-casual. why u play a game that require time when u dont have time? . Just enjoy your journey.

  7. I think the proper phrase is 'Filthy Casual!" 🤣definitely going to try for 5-6 hours a day during the alpha 2, but I'm lucky and get blocks of 7-8 days off in a row a month 🙂

  8. If intrpeid wants millions of players or even hundreds of thousands of players…. They need casuals. You need content for both the casual and hardcore player. You should not nerf all the hardcore content however to where it is all casual content.

  9. The thing with casuals is when a game runs properly they are great it’s a huge chunk of players with potential to add value to the game and community. Unfortunately modern games have been catering to the casual players essentially allowing them to make the same amount of progress either through P2W or some oversimplified system that doesn’t respect time investment. And as a result I see a lot of animosity towards the “toxic casuals” which do exist but I believe to be a minority that really don’t care for or to play the game but seek to gain some sort of space to destroy with bad ideas and a toxic mentality. It’s why an actual mmo community is so important holding the people accountable and calling out the overt toxicity and p2w systems being championed in modern games and why those systems need to fail and that’s what I’m hoping ashes shows the genre is that we haven’t given up on the community yet and to keep our favorite games around, healthy, and fun we are willing to not play a game just because it’s an mmo but to look past that and see what kind of community the devs are trying to foster and decide whether or not it’s worth the time investment. Mmo players really have to be what they used to be a group of people that loved a genre and essentially told people to F off if they were ignorant or didn’t respect the culture. I’m all for new players and gamers wanting to see what mmos are about but like with most things in this world to many crappy ideas became mainstream to placate the “turbo casuals” and now we are here hoping a game that doesn’t exist does what needs to be done finally after a decade of decay. Thank you for listening to my TED talk.

  10. My hope is that everyone can find something that they enjoy doing in-game and will keep logging in no matter if it is a few hours a week to 16+ hours a day. If Ashes is going to be a hit it will need to have a place for people who have less time to invest.
For me personally even on days where I have RL responsibilities to take care of, I will still manage 10+ hours on most days it will be 16+, who needs sleep especially in those first several months after launch.

  11. You forgot about one the biggest factors when it comes to gathering/crafting. The fact that low level materials never become irrelevant in the game, and are always needed.
So you can run long distance caravans filled with low level materials to nodes where those materials don't exist, for huge profits.

  12. At release, I plan on playing 24 hrs a day for the first 3 days, 20 hours a day for the next week, 18 hours a day for the next 3 weeks. I will have my boss Lay me off for a month so I can collect unemployment benefits while I LIVE inside AoC. Meals will be severed at my computer, the bathroom is right next door, my bed is beside my computer, I will set an alarm to insure I don't oversleep… I will no life this game like no other, then real life will creep in and I will be forced to only game for 5 or 6 hours a day (12-16 hrs on weekends) ((with the occasional day per week where I have to drop my wife off to buy food and go back to pick her up)) 😀

  13. I'm going to win the lotto before this shit comes out, then I will travel for a year. Finally, when it does come out, I'll be playing 18 hours a day for a full year. Once the year ends if Im even alive, I'll evaluate on the next move.
