In this video I discuss my thoughts on the new resource that will be given to the fighter archetype in ashes of creation which is momentum. Steven states in the podcast that as the fighter gets further into combat, they gain more resistances, move faster, hit harder…with a comparison to the Juggernaut in Xmen. This type of playstyle has me strongly considering the fighter as my main archetype over the rogue.

I think its a great idea. We used the mechanic in our published ttrpg. Except all characters can do it. It was actually called Momentum! Cant wait to see what Intrepid have done with it.
Unique resources like this are an amazing thing adding depth to combat and character developmeng and I applaud devs for taking risky decisions like this (it's not a "new player friendly"choice or something easy to balance, as it adds complexity).
Iirc back in the day BDO used to have something similar for certain characters, where instead of a renamed "mana" bar they instead had empty circles which would gradually fill in, and they could be spent on the more powerful abilities.
ESO tried to do something similar too with some gear sets, whereby you'd increase your weapon damage/pen/dmg res. over time but because the game is the way it is it ended up being useless even in 1vX.
Personally it's not my style, I like playing somewhere in-between fighter and rogue – hit hard and gain survivability from killing rather than becoming stronger as I'm being damaged/dishing damage for prolonged periods, but I'm nonetheless somewhat excited about this development and it's not a word I use lightly.
I’m all for anything that adds a skill gap to the combat. So many MMOs are dumbing down their combat for the masses (we are looking at you ESO) I can’t wait to play a game that is intentionally adding depth and complexity to the combat. Can’t wait for them to turn me loose.
Sounds amazing!
I hadn’t thought of it like that. Same kind of skill gap resource like the cleric. Makes total sense!
Sounds more like the hulk, the longer he fights, the angrier he gets, the stronger he gets. Well, I know what my class will be. My base anger is already high. Get stomped nubs.
Man I gotta get a good pc to play this, fighter sound sick
