Some systems, simply cannot change in Ashes of Creation. Systems are intertwined and changing one alters others. This is not a Modular Game where systems can easily be plugged in or removed. I cover the recent topics regarding this.

  1. while i see why current megaserver implementations do not work for aoc, I hope they do something to improve on past implementations on server structures. the issue of dying/dominated servers or login ques could be a big issue for aocs community driven content approach. The whole artstyle debate is a big joke IMO. It is so subjective. I think wow looks like ass yet I do get that some people enjoy bad graphics xp

  2. I am very thankful that Intrepid is not getting influenced by the masses.
Some of these people clearly want a different game and their lack of understand what kind of game ashes aims to be will certainly lead to some drama once the game launches.

I am very curious to see how Intrepid is going to react to some feedback. As they stated several times, they will not compromise on core mechanics / ideas. I am just not sure where exactly they draw the line. For example, I can see open world dungeon bosses being unpopular, is that something that they consider a core system? Myself I would prefer for the dungeon boss to be instanced. The grind to obtain the entrance key should be in an open world enviroment, but I just cannot see how the benefit of an open world dungeon boss outweight the disadvantages of such a system.

  3. The art direction i admit could be better. I've only been impressed by some mobs, enemies, structures and zones…but the characters/players really need more spice. Cant wait for Ashes to release so we can finally discuss IF "social driven gameplay" in MMO's is "the future" or something amazing or not.
    Good video.

  4. so what if a PVP group max stats just camping bosses and killing new player.

so solo player are pointless to install or play AoC.

you can join a guild but you at low level so nobody will accept you when the game released about month's ahead………

you can join low tier guild but you cannot kill the boss for the loot or complete quest because PVP group's are camping it who have like 100 or players there…….

so if you don't have friends or a big guild it's pointless to play?

  5. Good job, as always.

After their ambition, I am in awe of the discipline of Intrepid's developers.

But one implication is gamification over verisimilitude. For example, Caravans MUST work, and so we get the variable starting point and finish lines.

I understand how central PvP is to Ashes, which is why I will endeavor to change my own mind, rather than ask the game to change.

  6. Mega-server without instances: EVE Online. Yes, you need much more space on map to accommodate everyone. Yes, there will be hubs (remember Jita IV-4? 🙂 ). Yes, there will be trade caravans to local hubs. And it is fun! The only legit reason is ping. So I suppose one server per continent (physical) is good. One for Europe, one for America, etc
