Ashes of Creation is one of the most anticipated upcoming MMOs. I actually don’t think it is overhyped considering it is one of the few promising new upcoming MMOs and we have had such a long drought of new MMOs. My expectation levels are moderate for this MMO, and this is how I think it could exceed my moderate expectations.

Yes, at least so far it seems like they will deliver a quality sandbox MMO at launch (timeline is the only frustration). Obviously, some MMO players will bash it because that is just how it is these days, if the game isn't designed for them personally then it sucks and they will spend 24/7 'yelling' about it for a few weeks (and occasionally showing up to 'yell' some more after that)
Hype level has never really mattered to me either. Launch day, and the days and weeks that follow will be everything for this game. Pretty much nothing that happens (hype wise) before then has any bearing on how successful this game is gonna be.
as long as they deliver the systems promised… i'll be happy
"WoW brains". I like that. 😛 I call it the WoW Generation, that vast segment of the online gaming community whose very first MMORPG was WoW. They formed their opinions and developed their viewpoint on all things MMORPG at that time, which in many cases was in their teenage years. Opinions and viewpoints established in one's youth are often lifelong. I'd actually be surprised if a great many of the WoW generation were diverted from whatever game currently holds their fancy. But they don't have to be for AoC to be a commercial success. There is sufficient circumstantial evidence to say that full funding, revenue and investment, to complete development of the game is already in the bank. Using the subscription model, AoC servers will be self-funding, and SS has never said that he had to make a profit off his investment. A small, niche player population is feasible with AoC, where such would be the death knell for any corporate spawned project, which would be flushed as soon as it fell into the red.
