In this video I go through my thoughts on the livestream, my thoughts on how well they executed as well as some more over-arching thoughts on the direction of the game.

Overall, I came away extremely impressed with the livestream because of how in depth the world creation will be. Let me know what you think!

  1. The biggest and stupidest argument I've seen against Ashes is it's looks…it's just incredible to me how people don't understand this is still in a alpha phase.
People act like this is full release, and it's just weird.
Either people are just haters, or they are really really stupid…🤷

  2. I really think that New World was popular for a bit because of how much more immersive it was. Realistic graphics are not Stylized. The goal is not to be identifiable by a screenshot it's to create an immersive world. Stylized simply does not bring the same immersion.

I think watching AOC develop I have learned that there is a very clear vision of what AOC is. Maybe making stylized would be better but it seems like a "we don't compromise the quality" for anything mindset.

I think after seeing all with the mayor system seemingly flushed out and in the game combined with gathering and crafting. These will continue to just get better and better.

  3. Everything in the game is touched by the nodes. It is THE heart of Ashes.
I loved the live stream. 9/10. My favorite part was seeing the split elevations of the node compared to the flat plane we got in Alpha1.
Intrepid is truly creating a masterpiece in the mmo space. Im just glad im along for the ride.
Im so tired of this Asmond click bait art style argument. IF you watch hai streams the first couple of times you can tell its for drama, the second time he makes the case. Remember he also said he wanted a mega server for Ashes….lmao…i really dont think he understands the game too well or its for drama as well.
I can tell its Ashes just by lookikg at it now. Its there. He wants another wow so bad, I feel sorry for him.
Im very glad Steven chose this path for the art. Im so sick of Disney on crack toons i could scream. Same with Riot…its just Wow moved over about two steps to the right.

  4. Personally, I was disappointed in the focus of the stream, but what they delivered was a solid 7 out of 10, if not better. The majority of the discussion was on mayoral systems, which only 10% of the player base will ever see or have a use for. I was looking for a more general, over arching coverage. Perhaps this will happen in the future node streams.

What I found the crafting trees interesting. Specializing in a particular type will help players carve out a niche in the world.

  5. Nodes is why I want to play Ashes, even though I am not into PvP at all.

I do think the stream was too Mayor focused, and not aimed at a more general audience, but it did interest me a lot.

I do like thinking about strategy a lot, so maybe I can be an economic advisor or city councilor.

  6. People are obssesed about the issue of "visual identity" or an art direction that makes it unique like other MMORPGs. You see, when you're trying to make a video game with realistic graphics, it doesn't make sense to ask for that. Imagine an example in the art world, where you bring together artists like Picasso, Van Gogh, Dalí, etc… artists with a very characteristic style. On the other hand, you bring artists who draw with a high level of realism. Then, you tell all of them to draw a table. When they finish, you'll see the artists' tables with a very characteristic style and you will say: Oh! That table was drawn by Picasso! And that one by Van Gogh! The other one is from Dali!! And then, when you see the tables drawn by realist painters, you will not know who each drawing is from, because they will all look alike since they all seek to resemble real life!! And that does not mean that it has no identity, it simply means that it is a style that seeks to resemble what we see in the real world. AoC has taken that direction and it seems perfect to me, I like the realistic graphics. I honestly don't think that visual identity is what makes an MMORPG successful, but rather the kind content that it brings, if it's attractive, if the game works well and all that. In fact, if you are looking for something that makes you identify AoC when you see it, that's the node system, and honestly, I prefer to identify a game by its features rather than by how it looks.

  7. What do you think about the village?, Some say they were using UE assets, and it shouldn't take long to build the village since they used already available assets, and just trashing about the graphic and the art style. To me, that's dumb, if they go with medieval style village and houses, of course They're gonna look similar, and they didn't just put assets on the game, they also did the animation, coding scripts for events and mechanics in the village. But also kinda agree when they say the art kinda look boring or too general. Still don't have their own identity yet, visually at least.
