They run the risk of being more like the original Ultima Online before the UO devs switched things up and turned Siege Perilous into the only hardcore server. It's a fine line to walk. You don't want an a la carte game like WoW, but casual players still need to be able to enjoy it, or there will never be a healthy enough population to sustain the game.
Ashes is already borrowing heavily from another MMO….Archage.
Good take! I think this is 100% accurate. Everyone wants the best parts of their favorite MMO but ultimately the community at large wants something new. I hear people all the time saying things like "i want a game with BDO/ESO combat, with FFXIV's dungeon detail/story telling and guild war's end game accessibility. Ultimately i believe ashes if done right, has the potential to be genre bending and can be the standard of what new MMOs have to be to compete. This will force other developers asjust how the look at MMOs in the future in the same way that Elden Ring shifted the way studios looked at the dark souls formula.
Probably would help Ashes if they’re mage abilities didn’t have exact names from wow 🤦🏾♂️
I'm excited for Ashes for what it is, I haven't played a game like Ashes, NOBODY HAS. That's the problem, everyone makes comparisons to a game that we have experienced because it's what we know.
Nothing is exactly like Ashes, literally nothing. Let them cook.
