In this video I go through the idea on instance based dungeons, and although I don’t mind them in other mmo’s that I play, they would make player interaction in ashes of creation worse and make the game less enjoyable as a whole.
However, I am just a guy with an opinion. What are your thoughts?

Stick to eso this game is a dumpster fire
I want a change up. People who want to sign in for a lottery type instance pool. While you're playing say 4 to 8 players are randomly picked and all thrown into an instance with superior loot and prizes at anytime while playing and if you fail you just keep playing until you're magically pulled with strangers to instances. Everyone would play more hoping to be pulled to an instance and make the trip cool please if I have to wait for the instance or dungeon to load give me different light shows
Player interaction is central to every design pillar of Ashes. Instancing removes player interaction and eliminates the challenges of a social game. While some content in Ashes will be instanced, it won't be the norm as it is in every other modern game. Instanced dungeons weren't really a thing back in the dawn of MMORPGs. You really haven't lived until you've had a full dungeon of mobs trained on your party. All of the aspects of Ashes that draw the "in other games they do it" complaints from people outside of the core community are the very aspects that attracted me to AoC in the first place and if Intrepid hasn't budged on those aspects in eight years, I don't think there's much chance that they will. The game will be what it winds up being, of course, but if it wasn't different, it wouldn't attract so much attention. Ashes is a different kind of MMORPG, and that makes me glad. 🙂
Bunches of people all over the world thrown together in a fight to the death. Less see who's the best and make a youtube channel to show all the fights and audio of the players. LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE!
I don't really see the reason why both systems couldn't coexist together instanced and open world, same goes for pvp. Steven already talked about instanced pvp and that 20% dungeons will be instanced. Some days an hour or two to play is all you get.
The only way to have difficulty setting for dungeons is to have them be instanced. That being said, there could still be a basic open version of the dungeon.
Random comment to drive your algorithm because I like your voice. Can’t wait for the game!
Depends on your perspective i guess. If you're a 16yr old who can play 12 hours a day then you'll thrive in whatever environment. But if you have a life, obligations and responsibilities with limited free time you're not going to enjoy needing to spend 2 hours to gather 20 resources or whatever.
The creators of the game need to decide what they want, a game fit for everyone which could be massive or a game with 1500 people online in prime time.
i don't know i was following along with this series of yours but that clip you had around the 7 minute mark just didn't feel like something smolrog would do (i know them personally) this just feels like a video made to maliciously attack them
I think some instant based content will be present. I think starter racial quests, religion, and class trials will be instanced.
Hopefully, gear grind will not be as important since crafting gear will be best in slot/game. The dungeon gear drops will be weaker.
Dude you hit the nail on the head. If your theme park game is so great, why are you still looking for a new game then?
"As it stands now, many dungeons in the world have an open world component, with several instance access points that parties can participate in. We want to maintain the open world feel while being able to capitalize on the benefits of instanced mechanics. We will go into more depth in a blog soon." – Steven
1. Instancing allows for more advanced raid mechanics.
2. It sounds like the 20% of instanced content may be like the final boss fight in a dungeon.
Basically I don't agree with the sentiment that ashes is all open world and the 20% instancing will be insignificant. That's an old comment so it may no longer be true, but I want to see more info before I'm going to buy people's takes on what it is or should be.
I still don't think people grasp the sheer size of the world yet.
The dungeons will always be changing, adding new content, closing off content when a node falls, there is just so much that will be going on its almost scary.
I want to say if I remember correctly, there will be a YouTube channel dedicated to ashes, that will update daily what's going on on each server. ASHES daily news so to speak.
I just can't wait to get lost in the world, make some cool new friends, have some awesome adventures, and make some kickass memories.
I'm in no rush to get to level cap. I'm going to enjoy this one to its fullest and have one hell of a journey along the way.
Anyone else wonder how PvP'ers always seem to know exactly how the PvP-mmorpg is going to unfold despite the fact that NO open-world-nonconsenual-pvp-mmorpg has ever been successful??? the longest running pvp-mmorpg doesn't have resource wars, it has staged, Ego wars.
Also, why does this guy compare WOW styled mmorpg's to missionary position and ignore the fact that Ashes of Creation has the Holy Trinity??? which means that Ashes of Creation is going to be a Missionary position game! Ashes of Creation is bending over backwards (another innuendo?) to convince players that there'll be nothing but Dungeon runs and Raids! The Developers of Ashes of Creation haven't shown a single second of PvP gameplay, 100% of their efforts have been to convince players that Ashes of Creation is about the Holy Trinity, Dungeon runs and Raids, the Missionary position!
Where are the Ashes of Creation PvP development blogs, videos, showcases???
This video asks the question; If you like that style of gameplay why are you looking for a new game? then tries to con you into believing you're looking for PvP. If PvP is such a great form of gameplay why are the developers of AoC desperately hiding the PvP???
