  1. There’s plenty of case studies in the form of failed MMOs that show how not to launch and how not to use Alphas and Betas. As you said, they need to maintain the hype by shutting off certain content or gradually drip feeding it to us. I think Steven had said this but I don’t know when but if they do gradually release content sections, this will preserve the life of the game. A2 for no longer than several months for me.

  2. The Wiki says that Alpha 2 will be persistent and run until launch, at which point it will become the PTS. If this actually comes to pass, Alpha 2 will last, in some form, forever. (Until the servers get taken offline.) Looking at the state of the game from the outside, I'd say that they have at least 2 and more likely 3 years of development minimum before they have a Beta ready game. Like content creation channels, games go stale if they don't have a regular infusion of new stuff. As you said, if they maintain a regular update/testing/new content schedule of bi-weekly or nor more than monthly, Alpha 2 will hold onto it's 100K+ plus player base, but won't admit new players because, at some point prior to A2 full launch, Intrepid is going to cut off access. If Alpha 2 is a PR success, then all of the people attracted to the game but unable to play during Alpha 2 will create a huge pent up demand that will insure very successful Betas and launch. Will the 100K Alphas get bored before launch? Not if Intrepid can manage to build a fun game that doesn't go stale, which is, I believe, one of their stated objectives.

  3. There isn't a world where 2-3 years is a good thing. MMO committee is different from the CRPG committee.

Butt one thing is for sure, it's going to go bad if they want 2-3 years and they are just going to see everything. It will not work. Focused testing is the only thing that makes sense

  4. Crowfall just missed the mark on its crafting and farming system. It didnt quite understand that Full Loot PvP Players, dont want to spend 4 hours farming for a single weapon to loose it later. everyone just used the base ones from the mobs and then sold their spares in a store on their island, making crafting useless and the economy useless. Then the way to find islands with stores was a nightmare! Unless you dropped £400 like myself (so i could have 15 stores on my island) you also couldnt sell much.

  5. I dont care how long anymore with Ashes, its already on my list of "Accepted" no matter how long. A real Gamer developing a REAL game! Time has no place here. I just hope the USA and Nato doesnt destroy the world before we get to delv into the world of vera. But i was enlightened that I could play it from heaven so im all good.

  6. I don't thinik it'll be a problem. Intrepid has done a good job of managing the hype/doom trains and their core-community, so far. It's a true alpha and it will be followed by a true beta. It will not be early access, so there is no danger of it being a problem for launch. The first time anybody can play the game will be at launch. Baldur's Gate was not an alpha/beta, it was a first chapter preview, which they used for some testing.

  7. Good vid, I disagree with a Lot but it's a good discussion – I've been saying this for a long time, no Good MMO in history ever failed for taking too long to release, but most failed for releasing too early – Crowfal was just a terrible game, game failed not because they had a long alpha the game was just bad,

I say hype is irrelevant, it comes and goes, BG3 is the perfect example of what I've been saying A2 can even take 4 years, when it's ready, everyone will be there to play the game, I hope they take as long as they need with A2

Also, discovery and launch-hype doesn't = success, look at the most popular MMOs right now, FF14, Albion, BDO, ESO, GW2, all those games had mid to terrible launch and grew over time, an MMO is about player retention and growth in the long run, we need, we must, 100% test the whole map, and every single system during A2 intrepid shouldn't leave anything out because that can mean issues if we have untested systems, zones, quests that didn't went through a player-stress test, that's my take on it!

  8. Alpha 2 will be 100% content and feature complete before Release, this is the plan ever since the game was announced. As it should be. I want no surprises of bugged quests, dupes and exploits for the games release.

  9. Crowfall released to early cause they ran out of coin, Everyone in the test phase was saying it not ready for release bu they did it anyway which was the nail in the coffin there, dont release an alpha game it not gonna fly these days people just sick of incomplete game.

Keep the alpha / beta tags on it until it actualy completed which seems to be what intrepid gona be doing here .

I think the game should only show the bottom half of the map pretty much in alpha 2, maybe open the whole world up in beta since there super short

as for long test phases i dont see it as an issue considering the good mmos last for years gaining player bases aslong as content keeps coming out, Although we havant had a good mmo since 2005 when WoW took over and everything just became Cheap WoW copies generaly.

  10. Crowfal was dogshit thats the reason lmao and Star Citizen I can guarantee you if they release and deliver on their promisses ever person will play the game even everyone that is hating now – its just that you NEED TO DELIVER no matter how long alpha two lasts, for me they can have a 5 years alpha as long as they deliver a good game.

  11. I would say pure Alpha 2 should not go longer than a year to 15 months before pushing into Beta. Alpha 2 is persistant, to me, meaning the content will not go away but will not complete either. I invision them adding and tweaking all through Alpha and beyond. But this does mot mean players will have access to everything. Ststems may come down, break, be changed, and tweaked, but eventually, they will be back up.
